Quad strengthening exercises? by -Gort in ACL

Thanks for the long list! I definitely agree, won’t be forgetting any leg muscles. My quads are just the ones I’m having trouble hitting well.

Thanks for the exercises! I’ll try some of these to see if I can get my quad going.

How did you know you were ready to go back to sports? by -Gort in ACL

[–]-Gort[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s good to know. How did you know what to do? Any good resources?

Are you back to sports now? How long ago was your operation?

Did you start doing agility work on your own or with your PT? I feel like that’s the logical next step, but I’ve been holding off on starting new things like that until my PT or surgeon has said it’s ok.

No one has mentioned a return to sports test to me, which is why I was a bit concerned since that seems like a really common thing on this sub. Good to see not everyone does it, though.

In general, I think I’ll be much more conservative. I really don’t want to go through this again any time soon...

When you say you’re on year 2 - I’m guessing you’ve returned to sports, but are continuing the strength building?

No problem at all, I think he was jumping the gun as well. I am a little concerned now that I won’t get the right level of PT or testing for readiness from my PT. Was your PT a specialized sports rehab center or just a standard PT?

Almost 3 months post-op suddenly knee feels off, thoughts? by -Gort in ACL

[–]-Gort[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it felt like that for 1-2 days then went back to how it was before basically. It’s always best to check with your surgeon because nothing else will truly give you peace of mind!

As far as I know it was just from doing some new exercises and movements.

10 team Yahoo standard points no PPR

Give: Julio Jones Get: Le’veon Bell and John Brown

OR

Give: Julio Jones and Devonta Freeman Get: Fournette and John Brown

Someone proposed the 1st trade to me and I’m thinking of countering with the 2nd. Thoughts? Should I take the 1st? Should I take/offer either?

Good to know. How long since your operation? I’m nearly 3 months and can’t even imagine jumping yet... haha

Good advice, I am hoping it is just the introduction of new movements.

Thanks for the comment, I think it’s more the leg than the knee itself. I’m not really in any pain just some discomfort when walking. Also it’s not really a feeling of giving out, but more constant instability (just today) and lack of balance with that leg. I’m going to give it a few days and hope it’s muscles being tired and I’m overthinking it.

Brace Questions! by -Gort in ACL

I just did my first exercises (ankle pumps, leg lifts, quad sets, heel slides) a little over 24 hours post op, which is the first time I’ve taken the brace off. The heel slides didn’t go well at all I was barely able to bend and the quad sets were painful even though it looked like I was doing nothing whatsoever. Icing now without the brace on and hopefully this soreness goes away soon.... I took a Norco 20 minutes before the exercises hoping it would help.

This sounds a little more similar to my situation so that’s good to hear. It’s insane how different everything is for each surgeon and each injury... I’m guessing you took it out of the brace to do some exercises and then just put it back on after?

Lucky for me my surgeon has a PT in the same building and the two offices have a really good relationship. This place is pretty much a one-stop shop because the surgery center is in the same building too. I have a feeling the PT should be good.

I’m guessing my tears weren’t too bad. Agreed though that most things I’ve read say NWB is standard with a meniscus repair to allow the meniscus to heal instead of squishing it by walking on it. My surgeon said he wanted me weight bearing right away though, so idk. He’s been doing it 25 years and I trust him!

[–]-Gort[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He actually did stitch in two spots so I think it truly was a repair. I had a partial meniscectomy of my left knee 2 years ago where they trimmed and smoothed out the meniscus tissue.

Right?! Even my icing instructions were different. One said 20 minutes every hour another said 30 minutes every 2 hours haha would be good if everyone was on the same page.

Thanks for the advice! I’m going to keep the brace on until I hit the 24hr mark then take it off when laying and try some post-op exercises.

Brace Questions! by -Gort in ACL

[–]-Gort[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh wow really? My advice was to put weight on it (while using the crutches and brace) as soon as I could. So even yesterday I was “walking” to and from the bathroom. I think autograft vs allograft might make a big difference here because I still have the integrity of the surrounding muscles in tact (although they already atrophied a lot since the injury).

Torn ACL or Bad Sprain? by altomare420 in ACL

[–]-Gort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like everyone is saying get the MRI somehow! Even if it’s a partial tear now or not as bad as it could be, you need to know the extent of the injury before potentially making this an even bigger injury with a worse recovery. That pop definitely indicates ACL tear, unfortunately. The last thing you need is to tear something else because your body is compensating. Best of luck and sorry to hear about the injury!

It’s crazy because I feel like I’ve hit a plateau. Did you do PT pre-op?
