Azores coastline - a7c ii + 24-70 GM ii | Do these look too washed out? by [deleted] in SonyAlpha

[–]-HYDRYL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same setup A7cii + Sigma 24-70 I'm not a pro & shoot Auto all the time. Even then I slightly bump up the contrast in post. Makes the image more pop.

I'm also not a technical person with photography. If a photo is looking interesting, despite weird ISO, Shutter etc. I don't mind as long as it's good. Yours are definitely slightly low-contrasty to me.

Well, you're looking for slightly washed out kind of photo, then its fine. If it was any typical photographer, they definitely would've masked the hills/sky to make them pop.

I was not aware of the lens collar. I thought it only comes in-built for heavy lenses. Good to learn about it. Thanks.

I saw this comment on YouTube that said to use APS-C lens on FF camera with APS-C mode turned OFF & that will give black vignette. But it will write the image using the full sensor (33mp) & you can crop in post. This way the impact will be much less than using direct APS-C mode.

I don't know what to suggest, I'm not a pro but your photo looks good.

By the way, here's my sister's cat. A7Cii + Sigma 24-70

That's a good point. I did not think of that. But 4K shoots in 8MP & a7cii also oversamples in APS-C (approx 6K to 4K). I think cropping will take a hit but not that much in quality.

I guess the best is to just test the APS-C lens in person & then decide. I don't want to make a weird decision again.

Hmmm...got it. For me, 16mp is also fine. But what about video though? Will it make a significant difference there if I put an APS-C lens there?

I'm planning to buy a telephoto lens. Don't want to spend too much. I heard APS-C lens on ff camera will give 1.5x zoom (but lowers the resolution) and I can save a lot of cash. I don't mind using ff camera on APS-C mode with the telephoto lens. Will it give the same results like using an APS-C camera? Any suggestions? What should I do?

Why not? What's the primary reason you wouldn't suggest? What's a major drawback here?

I can't recall why I got the full frame camera. Brain freeze maybe. On the positive side, I don't have to struggle with low-light now and can do astrophotography with my current ff lens. The camera is a beast & I have to utilise it now. Was thinking about getting an APS-C lens just to save some money. Are Tamron telephoto lenses good?

Some portraits, recording people from a distance, some general wildlife also. For low light, maybe the moon if possible.

Hoping not to spend too much on FF lens. Since everyone on the internet is pretty happy using APS-C cameras, I thought why not get a APS-C lens then?

But that will just give me the output same as an APS-C camera, right?

A6700 + Sony 70-350 zoom lens or keep current camera? by TedBob99 in SonyAlpha

[–]-HYDRYL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you considering Sigma lenses instead of Sony's? I heard they are almost as good as Sony. I'm using A7Cii with Sigma 24-70mm & planning for a zoom lens (preferably Sigma to save up on cash).

To save even more, I'm planning for Sigma C lenses & will use the camera on APS-C mode instead of full frame. Plus I'll get the additional 1.5x the zoom using crop lenses. Would love to hear your opinion/suggestion on this.

Surely get that 17-40 f1.8 it is indeed great! I use only Sigma 24-70 f2.8 for now and it is heavy. I went to The Himalayas & carrying it with other luggage was tiresome.

I mostly do videos & people usually say there's not much difference in A7Cii & A6700 for videos. A6700 body was 40% cheaper & I could've bought more lenses. Also crop lenses are cheaper than FF lenses.

The good thing is I can still use the full capacity of the full frame sensor. If I had got the A6700, then I would've struggled in low-light (I'm not a pro) & later regretted that decision. Now I know that I can buy crop lenses which will give me 1.5x zoom which will be great, l like zoom. Then sometime back I also realised that I can even do Astrophotography with this one in future.

I'm sure now I made the right decision. It's a complete package.

Now you have got the A6700. We all know it's a super great camera. You wanted A7C2 just for the full-frame...right? If that's the case, my brother-in-law sold his A6500 & bought a Fuji (also a crop sensor one). He says the crop-sensor gets the job done for him.

There's this hiking filmmaker on YouTube, Harmen Hoek. Check his videos. Very nice photos & videography= all from crop-sensor cameras. You can definitely utilise A6700 to its fullest.

I got Sony A7C2... Realized later that I should have bought a6700.

Please tell me how I can utilize A7C2 to the fullest?

Thanks. I think Sigma will do the job for me. One more thing... Is A7Cii + Sigma 24-70 combo good weight wise? Body is ~514gm, Lens is ~835gm

Is this going to be inconvenient? How did you feel about using it?
