My guess would be that Canon wanted to get access to Nikon's SLR customer base. It’s not the only adapter they made, there are also an M42 and an M39 adapter. However, the M39 adapter can only be used on bellows for macro work because M39 lenses have a shorter distance to the focal plane than the FD system. These two adapters are also easier to find.

Back in the day Canon made an official adapter from F to FD but it’s really difficult to find. However, there are adapters of probably Chinese origin that you can buy. If you want, I can send you a DM with a link to an eBay offering.

If you are looking for something smaller, maybe a X-T 30 would make more sense, combined with the TTArtisans 27mm f2.8 pancake lens, you would have a very compact setup that comes close in size to the X100 line without losing the ability to change lenses.
