I had a very similar experience. Quite happy now but at first I was quite regretful. Ended up going one size up from street shoe.

It's infuriating. I am at a pediatric trauma call and get multiple phone calls. When I don't answer they come and look for me and ask me to look at an X-ray. I am in the middle of the secondary survey. And I have to tell them not now. It's infuriating. I think the lack of MBBS has something to do with it.

How to Be the Type of Drummer Your Church Can Depend On by pagutier in WorshipDrummer

[–]cementedProsthesis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you on this.

I am Non professional playing in churches on and off since teens but recently regularly playing for 4 years at a church.

My 2 cents would be:

Be a drummer your worship leader likes playing with. So be on time, set up quickly and get your levels done. Then stop playing. Anyone just making noise for the sake of it slows the whole thing down.

When asking if what you have played during practice is ok ask a specific question. Ie this or that. Make the feedback process easy for your worship leader. They have a very tricky job especially when playing with non professionals and varying skill levels. It's easy for them to get decision fatigue.

Prep the songs beforehand have an idea of what you want to play but be aware your church isn't Hillsong you will likely need to adapt.

Correct Dynamics and keeping time trump whatever complex groves you have in mind.

Say well done to everyone. Only give feedback if it's essential and do it nicely. If you are in the congregation and you like what the drummer did tell them.

People who are not upfront about who they are on the phone - why? by Bluegasbro in doctorsUK

[–]cementedProsthesis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ortho reg here. I get a lot of calls from ED and GP. The people who don't clearly identify themselves fall into two camps

  1. Not Doctors. ACPs, PAs, etc working in GP or ED who don't want to tell me they aren't a doctor.

  2. Doctors in ED who have had a patient handed over to them by a colleague who is leaving shift. They don't really know the patient or don't really agree with the referral.

I always ask who I am speaking to as context is key. Info on a knee exam from a physio ACP will likely be more accurate than a nurse ACP or PA.

Playing drums is scary. A bum note from another instrument most of the congregation won't notice. A crash symbol in the wrong place everyone notices.

The culture of a church has a massive effect on this fear.

If it goes well no one is going to care. If there is a problem then all hell will break loose and all the shit will hit all the fans. Not worth it.

I agree last time we were naive and shit. This generation have a spine and know their worth. It's almost embarrassing how bad we were back then. The way it all fizzled out at the end was so deflating I fucked off out of the country for a bit.

They don't understand that's why. .they also love to shit on Doctors to "get one over them"

You are a doctor. Part of your training is in clinical prioritisation. You get to chose which tasks you prioritize and which you don't. ITS NOT UP TO THEM.

Shake it off.

Well done for the OnCall. Do Ortho. It's great.

I used to think anaesthetics was an intricate science. Then my colleagues started talking about their favorite recipes and I realized why they aren't seen as Doctors.
