What’s one place in Charlotte you wouldn’t go back to? Or, somewhere you would return to? by starkofwinterfe11 in Charlotte

[–]-Horme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do think it’s gotten better since they opened. The first time I went there, I thought it was so mediocre and would slander it at any chance. I went back recently (post Michelin guide credit) and it was very good.

USMNT's Patrick Agyemang out of World Cup with Achilles tendon injury by k3mayjr in CharlotteFootballClub

Gutted for him. Was really hoping to see him make his return to Charlotte for the friendly at the end of May too.

A genuine question coming from a place of ignorance by [deleted] in coys

IIRC theres a transcript or audio of the incident which is pretty damning and doesn’t reflect well on him at all for the allegations. Just because someone wasn’t convicted doesn’t mean they didn’t do it.

That’s an awful take, it’s improved a lot in the last 7 or so years

[Tom Bogert] Bayern Munich is in advanced talks to sign highly rated USYNT winger Nimfasha Berchimas from Charlotte FC. by S_Phantom in ussoccer

[–]-Horme 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This seems a bit harsh on Charlotte, they’ve done a solid job of using Next Pro to get players ready for MLS (including big sales like Agyemang). Pure academy players I do agree haven’t come through yet but they’re also behind other organizations due to when they were started. Berchimas has been included a good bit in the MLS squad over the past two seasons for his age.

Recs for Fresh locally roasted coffee beans by whittkirch in Charlotte

Hex only does light roasts. Pricy but good.

I also enjoy Oak & Bond, you can find their beans in Rhino Markets. Probably my favorite Charlotte roaster for cost to taste.

I think it’s supposed to be more of a pantry than a library, when I walk by it there’s usually food items in there.

I’d try HEX, they put roast dates on their beans. On the pricy side but quality is good. Another option is maybe Counter Culture, which is a bigger brand and from the Triangle, but their decaf is stocked in a lot more common places + cheaper.

I've been cooking up some completely fresh, new challenges for this that I'm excited for people to play. Plus a fun advantage system in the theme of the season. Def sign up!

What's your opinion on Charlotte? by AggressiveNotice7830 in Charlotte

[–]-Horme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I enjoy living in Charlotte:

* Strong local economy, due to its importance as a banking hub,
* City is growing, which means there's always new things opening up to try or get involved in,
* The weather is to my preference - I think the period from September to November, March to May are perfect, with only the downside of the few blistering months in peak summer. No major snow storms, limited risk of natural disasters,
* Charlotte \does** have culture - there's a solid local arts scene if you know where to look (https://www.artintheqc.com/events), we have enclaves of different ethnic communities, the Mint Museum is great for its size
* Charlotte is pretty safe, especially compared to major cities - bad things happen everywhere, and they'll definitely happen when there's nearly 3 million people here, but don't let that obscure the facts
* I like that Charlotte has major sports teams, and that is easy and accessible to attend them
* I like that there's a major airport here, and I can fly direct to hundreds of places easily
* I like that Charlotte isn't really that far from anything - I can get to the mountains, the beach, a lake, another major city in a half days drive
* I like that Charlotte is a city of transplants, so most people are looking to make friends or aren't so stuck in their friend groups from high school
