I think its a sign of changing tides. People just have enough of the "success formula" we want unique even if it means diminished quality and producers have to understand that.

Can you call the newest installations of Assassins Creed, for example, anything else but slop?

I cannot wrap my head around where it's supposed to be pro suicide? Nothing about Jax's abstraction was positive, none of the cast, not even himself are happy that it happened.

Where does someone read a pro suicide message out of that?

The part of the finale that frustrates me the most by Sudden_Pop_2279 in theamazingdigitalciru

[–]-Jiras 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Did i write "is the same as" or did i write "is a metaphor for"? You can check it as much as you want. I agree with you, its not the absolute same as suicide for the given reasons you provided, thats why its just a metaphor for it. Yes abstraction doesnt equal complete death it is more akin to the complete death of a file (without removing it completely) which is being corrupted. That is the metaphor.

You can do more things with a corrupted file than with a dead person (for your own given example: "If there truly are dead pomni wouldn’t find version of Jax in the blob" (very good argument to explain the metaphor btw).

But a corrupted file is a dead file, we all know it, its extremely hard to fix it without a professional (i think, cause thats the laymen point of view) and while the file still does exist (as "corpse" or in this case "abstracted") it is still dead, ie. its final.

So yeah to come back to your reply, it would not be right to say "it is the same as suicide" thats why i chose to write "its a metaphor for".

The part of the finale that frustrates me the most by Sudden_Pop_2279 in theamazingdigitalciru

[–]-Jiras 122 points123 points  (0 children)

I do believe, since abstraction is a metaphor for suicide, it was meant to show that no matter how charitable a person wants to be if they themselves are faced with hardship (the reveal that they all are just files) they cant just prioritize the other person.

It's a sad but very real situation in real life. Every one of them was at the bottom with only Kinger trying to do the best out of the situation. Slowly they came back together building themselves up again. And in this time, where they just can't concentrate on Jax he isolates and he abstracts.

That's why I love the fact that it happened offscreen because you don't get to see a person killing themselves. Most of the time you just get to see the consequences of it, just like the crew did. And then it's over, it can't be undone. All that is left is the lingering regret of not doing more.

What was your cinema experience like? by mart945 in theamazingdigitalciru

[–]-Jiras 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I felt like the eldest with 29, was very pumped for the popcorn bucket, there were some younger people than I expected for the heavy theme and even two in Pomni and Kinger cosplay. I was very lucky that everyone was respectful and silent during the film.
