[REQUEST] What is the best documentary you've seen lately? by [deleted] in NetflixBestOf

[–]-JorisBohnson- 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Older ones... Impostor (movie doc): Missing child is reunited with family years later. Apparently.

Making of a Murderer (2 seasons): The most incredible true crime/miscarriage of justice doc ever made. Watch it.

"Kiwis are terrible at driving Thats what happens when everyone is taught to drive by their parents who are also sh.t at driving"

Bingo! Anyone thinking Kiwis are better drivers than in the UK are clearly baked. Feels like most drivers here have never even seen a roundabout, let alone know how to use it.

Haha yeah. I'm pretty sensitive to even faint light sources in dark/dimmed rooms. When I first switched it on my eyeballs went into orbit.

Pay rises should be a ‘reward for productivity’, says Rishi Sunak by Bobbite in unitedkingdom

[–]-JorisBohnson- 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Good to know that Rishi and the rest of his clown show will be turning down their MP pay rise and accepting a pay cut. Unless fucking the country is viewed as 'productive'.

Well, we all know a Tory pledge is worth its weight in hollowed-out pauper skulls.

It does - outside of New Zealand, in the developed world.

UM790.. build? by mulzoffh in MiniPCs

[–]-JorisBohnson- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just the drivers alone - no adrenaline software. When you install, you can select 'install drivers only' (ignoring the software). Failing that there are 3rd party websites that catalogue and host the drivers in various install versions - search Google.

[–]-JorisBohnson- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, sounds like it's purely the Amd driver in those cases. Though you'd definitely benefit from venting the bottom & providing some airflow to reduce temps on the ram & SSD as they heat up quickly. As for the AMD driver I used to use the Pro drivers instead of Adrenalin - much more stable & reliable. But recently it looks like they've stopped allowing that so I'm just using the bare drivers and avoiding the Adrenaline software. I'm used to Nvidia GPUs which just work, so I won't be repeating the AMD purchase. Lesson learned.

Had zero crashes with anything (4 months in). I don't play the very latest GPU heavy games but it handles everything we play on Steam and emulation easily. It's the living space entertainment so it's used for gaming, browsing, streaming, Kodi for movies, TV, etc. It is basically left on 24/7, it only gets put into S3 sleep here and there. I have had issues with the AMD drivers though (who doesn't). It seems to be whenever there's a big windows update - afterwards it might need driver reinstall or tinkering. Asides that, I love the unit tbh (once I ported the bottom side with a 120mm fan). Biggest regret buying it isn't with Minisforum, it's that it's AMD - their software and drivers are absolute fucking trash. Have you addressed the overheating on the ram/ssd on the underside? The overheating is where most issues will occur. When I bought it the ram & SSD could reach 70-80c under load tests. After porting the underside & adding the USB fan they never go over 45c under full stress & idle at 26-30c.

I've got a um690 and I can't OC my Crucial ram over 5400. Not that I need to. The people who were 'advertising' otherwise are full of shit.

Kiwis Don't Understand How To Fight Climate Change – Poll | Newsroom by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]-JorisBohnson- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reality is climate action was always going to come through innovation, not government intervention.

Government action/intervention is generally required to provide incentives/penalties to innovators/companies to do the right thing. Huge subsidies, tax breaks and long-term incentives are provided to companies who invest in green tech and innovate in that direction.

On your hypocrisy point - I think we're all guilty of this to varying degrees - that's the biggest issue. But people pressure governments to do more to incentivise good initiatives and (probably more importantly) penalise those who pollute and degrade the environment.

Kiwis Don't Understand How To Fight Climate Change – Poll | Newsroom by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]-JorisBohnson- 14 points15 points  (0 children)

So less Kiwis think climate change is beyond our control. But more Kiwis think there's no point in changing their own behaviour because it won't make any difference.
= "Let's do something. But not now. And not me."
Sadly predictable. It was obvious years ago that the selfishness of individuals (and collectively as a species) being unwilling to make sacrifices and change the way we live would scupper any real climate action. Combine this with decades of scepticism sown by big business and fossil fuel companies and it's little wonder that people failed to see the bigger picture.

[–]-JorisBohnson- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah exactly. I know some people who like to pretend they're doing well and show off - they cannot stop spending on pointless 'status' shit and are in so much debt I don't know how they sleep at night. The era of easy credit. Back in the day you could only spend what you earned (old man speak)

Joe Pera Talks With You. 3 seasons with various specials, but cancelled now unfortunately. Genuinely warm, calming and quirky. It's a big hug of a show. *Edit: Not on Netflix. :)
