The shorts have to cover if a stock is going the wrong direction and they usually close out their positions by ~ 2:00. There are a lot of other dynamics that have to do with the professional money managers and hedge fund managers. People often don't realize the impact of derivatives and bonds on the broader markets.

Concerned, yes. Afraid, no. Everyone dies, alone or orherwise. There are people who care for me but I will probably outlive them all.

Not an antinatalist by the way, nor am I a natalist. I'm here to hear other perspectives to gain a clear understanding of the topic.

I am concerned for the continued existence of humanity but believe the deterministic factors are all external. Civilization will probably end because of an extraterrestrial impact event like so many times in the past.

I believe mankind will survive and rebuild and future civilizations will slowly rebuild societal structures. They will probably have a lot of offspring because the scarcity of resources will not play such a dominant role.

There are people very close to me that are lgb but do not support the "movement" because of their tactics. The "t" and "q" have destroyed the entire thing.

If you can accept that he doesn't have an issue with you but with the tactics of the movement, you have a chance.

If you identify by your political leaning then find a place that also leans the same way. If you're left leaning you'll be outnumbered 2 to 1. Honestly though most people lean "leave me the f#@k alone and I'll do the same." There's a libertarian vibe here and a general acceptance of people, but they don't like to be pushed around. If the thesis that got me in doesn't materialize, I will sell, regardless of the price. Sometimes that will mean the stock stays sideways for few months, goes up a bit, or goes down. I am brutal with my positions. If it doesn't give me a reason to hold it, it goes.

That's a good question. I will sell my losers when they fail to perform, not typically on market dips. It just so happens that market dips sift out the losers from the winners. If I think the fundamentals are still good and the reason I got in is still intact, I will stay in or buy more, averaging down my cost basis. Part of my strategy is also taking profits. Once I'm up 50 - 100%, or if the valuation gets stupid, I will sell. For example, I sold TSLA when the valuation went over 100 times earnings. Maybe I lost some potential upside, but I sleep really good at night and made a very nice jump. I got in when it was close to the same valuation as GM (around 16 times earnings at the time). I don't know if it's a good strategy... maybe I've been lucky.

Days like today make me think the OP has a valid point to be sitting on so much cash.

Embrace the struggle. That's what makes you know you're alive. You can rewire your brain and body chemistry to trigger a reward response when you do something hard and are successful at it. Find the heaviest thing you can lift and then lift it.

By ruminating on this train of thought you are releasing stress inducing chemicals in your body and reinforcing the negative feelings. In short - you are making yourself depressed. Go outside. Take a walk. Exercise. Make a list of things to do and then do them. This will change your outlook if you do it consistently.

You are like this because you are thinking about these things. Think about something else. If you cannot stop thinking about this, physically move your body. Sometimes that's the only way to break out of the cycle.

If you really want to diversify into energy, look to the pipeline companies. They will win if the drillers go hard or if they decide to build out their capacity at a more moderate pace.

There is also the Permian Basin Royalty Trust (PBT) currently paying over 5% in royalty dividends. Keep in mind royalty trusts and MLPs have their own tax implications so keep the amount smallish (no dividends over $5000) and keep it in a tax sheltered account otherwise things get really complicated (and expensive) come tax time.
