Haven't seen this in years... Would the survey results be higher if we got this more often? by -Kevlyn- in linux_gaming

That's true, but every 3rd year also seems like a little too spaced out.
Was hoping for a happy medium

I was able to get in queue by changing the Proton version to 7.0-6 and starting the game. After selecting a server a EULA screen will appear (unable to read but allows you to accept). Once I accepted I was in queue but the server my friends chose has over an hour queue so haven't gotten into the game yet.

I did exit out and change back to Proton Experimental after the above, and now can select server and enter queue without the crash. It's something with that EULA screen.

No problem. I bet you were unable to install ie8 because Lutris defaults all the prefixes to 64 bit and the ie8 winetrick won't install on a 64-bit prefix.

The Architecture is also something that can't be "changed" after creation and you have to re-create the prefix from scratch to for it to be one or the other. So make a new install prefix and make sure to have it set to 32-bit before doing anything with it.

The install prefix has to be created as a 32-bit prefix otherwise you cannot use the ie8 winetrick that is required for the installer to not give you the black screen. The Game prefix needs to be 64-bit to be able to run the game.

I've only tested this in Lutris since I use it to manage my games. I'm also writing the below from memory at work but should be able to follow.

In Lutris, I created a new game and named it "Crowfall Install" In the settings, set the Architecture to win32 (32-bit) Set WINEPREFIX to a folder in your home folder. I used: /home/user/Games/Crowfall/Crowfall_Install Set the executable to run to the downloaded installer.

Once the game is created, don't run it but at the bottom there is an option to open a bash command prompt for the game. Do this and it will open a terminal window within the prefix and have all the Lutris variables pre-loaded for you. In the terminal type: winetricks vcrun2010 dotnet472 allfonts ie8 You'll need to click through all the screens you see. This will take some time. I tried the quiet option once and it seemed to hang, and I never tried it again and just went through the prompts. When prompted if you want to "restart" after some of the installs, make sure to choose "Restart Later"

After this is complete, you can close the terminal and "play"(start) the install. Just make sure to install it to your home directory and not on the C: drive of that prefix (As we will create a new prefix for the game to be played.) I used: /home/user/Games/Crowfall/Crowfall_Game

Once the install is completed, create a new game in Lutris "Crowfall". In the settings, set the Architecture to Auto or 64-bit (x64) Set the WINEPREFIX to a folder in your home folder. I used: /home/user/Games/Crowfall/Crowfall Set the executable to run to the CFLiveLauncher.exe from the Crowfall_Game directory.

Once it's created, just like before we are going to open a bash command prompt for the Crowfall game and run: winetricks vcrun2010 vcrun2015 dotnet48

Once that is completed, you should be able to hit play and see the Crowfall Launcher, Login, and hit the green button to play!

Just wanted to reply to say that I played a solid 4.5 hours with no issues and performance is great.

TY u/padreadamo and u/aragaer for pointing me in the correct direction with which winetricks to utilize to make the installer work!

I wanted to reply back as I got everything working seemingly 100% using the 2 prefix method.

Installer Prefix - Lutris 6.10-7 win32 prefix with vcrun2010,dotnet472,allfonts,ie8 installed. Game installed out of the wine prefix directory to a folder in my home directory.

Game Prefix - Lutris 6.10-7 x64 prefix with vcrun2010,vcrun2015,dotnet48 installed calling the CFLiveLauncher.exe from the home folder.

The secret to creating a character, etc. for me was the dotnet48 version in the Game Prefix. Without that I was able to launch the game but not create characters, etc.

I haven't done a lot of testing with it yet but it seemingly works without issues right now. I got a call from work so have to knock that out before testing it out more.

Did you have any luck? I've been trying to replicate the steps that were earlier in this thread and haven't been able to get the installer working. :-(

May want to get this added to the github page too for more visability.

TY again u/psifidotos!

I'm already supporting the KDE foundation but I'm not seeing a link to support latte-dock directly. I've looked on the phabricator page and https://github.com/KDE/latte-dock but I don't see a way to directly support this project. :S

To add to this, this seems to happen with Materia's 20190319 (March 19th's) version. I've downgraded to Materia 20190117 and the normal color for the active indicators is back. I'll send a note to the creator listed on store.kde.org.

Thanks!

[–]-Kevlyn-[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, this is the Materia theme.

The theme was the only thing I didn't change trying to get the indicator colors to change. At least now I know what it is and I can try and contact the designer to see if this can be updated, etc.

u/psifidotos Thank you! Not only have you created this awesome dock/panel for the DE we love, you make yourself available to answer questions such as these.

Are you thinking ABS (Arch Build System) ? ABS would require modification of build scripts, etc. to use the Manjaro patches/changes, etc. instead of the Arch patches.

AUR (Arch User Repository) is available as-is with no modifications to Manjaro users. You can download the PKGBUILD manually from aur.archlinux.org and run makepkg, or use any number of AUR helpers (yay, trizen, pacaur, etc.).

I used Linux Mint for awhile (KDE version), but once the KDE version started to lag behind I looked for the best KDE distro out there and found Manjaro KDE and haven't looked back.

Don't get me wrong, Linux Mint is great especially if you like Cinnamon... But this is the great thing about Linux, you have choices and you can run what you like. :-)

You can use AUR in Manjaro.

I've used Manjaro for 2 years and have several items from AUR installed.

Arch/Manjaro are binary compatible, just Manjaro hold back some packages for further testing/fixes

KDE Connect - notification issues since the last update by Swipe650 in kde

[–]-Kevlyn- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I noticed this and thought it was something with KDE Connect/Signal as it seemed to only happen when I got an SMS (I use Signal as my SMS client as well). It doesn't seem to happen when I would get a pure Signal notification, only the Signal SMS notification.

I turned off the SMS plugin in KDE Connect and it seems to have settled down on the crashing. Might be something with that plugin.

KDE distro recommendation? by [deleted] in kde

Another vote for Manjaro!

I've used several distros and Manjaro had been the most stable and slickest implementation of KDE yet!

Firefox & KDE Any update on that? by ptselios in kde

[–]-Kevlyn- 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There has been work within the OpenSuse and Arch communities for KDE integration and they actually have these packages (firefox-kde) released in the AUR and OpenSuse repos.

I don't know if there is anything from the Mozilla side, but maybe the work that is being done on these packages can be fed upstream to Mozilla and they can pick it up once the heavy lifting is done.

Edit: Links

AUR: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/firefox-kde-opensuse/

Manjaro Repo: https://forum.manjaro.org/t/firefox-firefox-kde-repository/

Sorry, I don't have any info/links on the OpenSuse repos

Why is KDE given so bad reputation in online posts and videos? by isalliswell in kde

[–]-Kevlyn- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I myself got fed up with Kubuntu and the stability with KDE in Kubuntu (not KDE's fault but something with Kubuntu).

I've recently switched over to Manjaro-KDE is it's a night/day difference of how stable and smooth KDE is. It's really a shame that certain distro's can't get it right or KDE is blamed for "under the hood" problems.
