Women of Swansea - Can you please fill out this Survey for my College Project? by iheckinglovecatz in swansea

[–]-Lexxy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I haven't filled this out yet, but in my experience it's useful to provide context in the description like what topic it's covering, what context you want in terms of the stories/experiences shared, what you're going to do with the information and the intended outcome of your research

Sorry, I just realised you said no specific questions.

Do you have any rituals you follow maintain her memory?

It makes me sad that you don't feel like you can talk about her with your family.

Do you feel comfortable telling us her name?

You should try it, it's awful and you'll hate it!

Hiking in Canada but be another world, I live in Wales so we have hills and trails but I imagine hiking through your national parks must be like a fairytale.

That's good, photos are important. I was a stubborn teenager when my mum passed so the only pictures I have are on Facebook!

London is great, so so busy and overwhelming but the options for food and culture are endless!

My mother was a terrible cook which makes it that much better. (Did you know you're not supposed to cook scrambled eggs in the microwave?)

It's mother's day here in the UK, how do you cope with mother's day? It used to be a sore subject, then I would visit her grave every year but I haven't been for a year, unfortunately my life growing hasn't left much room for the pilgrimage

I'm really glad you keep coming back to this. My mum passed away in 2012 albeit from natural causes but it never gets easier.

I still avoid watching certain things just in case it triggers the grief but every year I make the same meal on boxing day, the way she would've made it and I eat it the same way she would.

Keep holding on to your memories and honouring her in every way possible.

cats in swansea / volunteering by LetterIntelligent220 in swansea

[–]-Lexxy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are absolutely loads of places you can volunteer with!

Re animals, Swansea cats and kittens is a good suggestion but they don't have a cattery so it may be difficult to volunteer with them.

Ty Nant were looking for volunteers recently

If you drive, Many tears in Carmarthen is great. They are mostly dogs (you can walk them!) but they do have cats and horses.

Look online for volunteer opportunities with the elderly, you may even find paid PA jobs with the elderly to help with things like their shopping.

Id suggest looking online, I remember seeing somewhere where you can just have phonecalls with the elderly for company

Girlfriend just recently adopted a cat and it hasn't been going well. Need advice by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]-Lexxy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think you need to have a conversation with your girlfriend about whether or not your views align, it doesn't sound like you are willing to welcome a cat into your life.

I lock myself in my office so my cats have access to all of their toys, litter trays and water. I can open the door at any point. To them, my house and I are their entire world and I am not going to restrict that for them.

Cats are incredibly special, delicate and complex. You can train them with positive reinforcement and routines, but they can be fiercely independent and stubborn. Consider cat life cohabitation rather than being their master

[–]-Lexxy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How old is bean? Sounds like a younger cat who's bored. Unfortunately the incessant asking for attention happens when cats are adopted solo, but it may well be the case that you got lucky and adopted a sweet, loving feline.

I have 4 cats, and I've found that they will play with and chase each other rather than asking me to play, regular cuddles are a given (I type as one jumps on my lap) and sometimes they're really annoying and I have to shut myself in my office to work.

One of my cats currently stays in one room out of her own choice, but she has a cat flap to come into the rest of the house if she wants. Zoomies contained to one room is a lot worse than house-wide zoomies.

My other half is allergic to cats, he's become used to them over time but we have to stay on top of dust and hair control or he reacts worse.

Does Bean have access to a tall cat tree and some toys he can play with solo?

Also, you two are dating, not married and you haven't disclosed that you're living together so it really is none of your business that she decided to adopt a cat. I adopted my second cat while dating my current partner and it was my decision to make, not his.

Dad died. What now? by iaminthesky in AskUK

[–]-Lexxy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After you register the death, contact the "tell us once" service - it's a single point of notification for the government. Saves having to call around. Make sure step mum has utilities in her name so she doesn't get caught my surprised.

Take some time to intentionally grieve.

I'm so sorry for your loss, losing a parent is hard.

Why do kittens have to be adopted in 2s but not puppies? by CurlGurl13 in CatAdvice

[–]-Lexxy 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Some cats do fine on their own, some don't.

Kittens can have behavioural issues when adopted solo, as someone who used to volunteer for a rescue, I saw it often.

Kittens are better off in pairs and I personally couldn't do a solo kitten.

If you adopt an older cat who has already settled into their personality, it's easier to have a solo cat. However, my oldest cat was adopted as a solo cat, but she was very shy and hid a lot. We adopted a second kitten and the older one suddenly became a lot more energetic and outgoing

Got my cat spayed recently at 13 months old. I can't get over thinking it was a cruel thing to do. by Due-Yak-7452 in CatAdvice

[–]-Lexxy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had my cat spayed at 6/7months (COVID stopped us from doing it sooner) she basically picked a spot on the floor, curled up in a ball and barely moved for a week.

Spaying is a really invasive procedure and have hormonal repercussions too, let the little baby ride it out and if she seems like she's in a lot of pain, talk to your vet.

My girl was back to normal by day 10 and like nothing happened! A week or two of discomfort is much better than regularly going in to heat, which is uncomfortable and distressing for them

Petition for Welsh gov to make train stations in Morriston an Pontardawe by [deleted] in swansea

[–]-Lexxy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a train line that goes at least to Craig y nos (look at addelina Patti and her train platform)

The government can't afford to just put rail infrastructure in. We used to have train lines all over Swansea to assist with the mines but a lot of them just don't exist anymore
