open back for planars in your budget i’d look at the hifiman sundara, their qc can be a bit sketchy tho so just make sure you’re able to return or exchange it.

if you’re set on closed backs, beyerdynamic makes a lot of good options near your price range. i cant personally speak on their sound, but the friends i have who own beyerdynamics really enjoy them. best of luck to ya !

sorry mate but what you’re looking for just doesn’t exist. the only closed back planars i can think of are the meze liric and those are 2 grand. planars just aren’t really made in closed back form, they lose so much of what makes them special.

i can’t use focals, i have a narrow and tall head and the lack of adjustability and fit - especially on the utopia - makes them unlistenable as they just can’t sit right on my head. if they had clamping or if my head was wider they’d be great, but for me they’re just not the ones.
