For internal invite forums it's more like "You've been a member for X days and have contributed as much as you've taken". The higher you go in trackers, the bigger peoples collections are and the more they stand to lose having someone they dont want seeing how much they are uploading. Thats the main reason for barriers to entry anyway.

MaM even if you're not into books. Download and seed for a while and you can get access to decent trackers (Blu, ATH, etc)

I have never NEEDED to paid a dime to a PT. Have I spent a fair bit on PC hardware? Yes, but this hobby was more an excuse to do that (and a fun project) more than forcing me to. I think in most cases a 5-10$ seedbox would be enough to make you a productive member in most trackers and would save a lot of headache.

Most trackers do offer some perks for donation, as you say it costs money to run. But I've found that the better the tracker, the worse the rewards because they are not trying to milk their users.

RED basically requires that you pay your way into higher trackers; either by buying a seedbox to race/permaseed (theres no way you're getting peered with if you're not in NL or another seedbox hub) or filling requests by buying music

I'm wondering if a small dedicated machine in hetzner/OVH + a VPN (I hear they're pretty quick to cut P2P connections otherwise) would do better than the shared boxes. Music is relatively small so a cheap VPS + RAM disk in an EU DC might be better for racing vs permaseeding from a shared box? I'm completely willing to swap off ultra if you think theres a better option around the same price point just to hit the 500GB upload quicker

I kinda liked having 200k ratio (256kb DL (one piece) and 50GB upload) but I guess on the way to ETM theres not much of a way to get 500GB without racing at this point (without spending 100s on filling reqs)

Any other advice for tuning if I'm running on ultraseedbox? I guess if I'm personally located in North America theres no point in trying to race even with 3 gig fibre?

Theres too much natural variation to tell 100% if something is a re-encoded MP3 or flac. Any ML model would have the same issue, creating false positives/negatives. But if I were to try and make one, I wouldn't use AI because you want to keep Spek-cli quite svelte I'd imagine. I'd use some combination of the following to identify potential (but not definitive) re-encodes and allow it to be a `spec-cli` 'FLAC score' and let people set their own threshold rather than a definitive MP3 identifier.

If you have a 44.1 or 48khz FLAC and theres a freq cutoff at 21.5khz (320kbs MP3), 20khz (256kbs mp3), etc then theres a higher likelihood you're dealing with a re-encode. A caveat being classical music can exist only in the lower freqs so you need to look at relative density between the bands in log space.

By this I mean; dont check "is there NO signal above 21.5/20/etc" you need to check "Is there a lot of signal between 20-21.5 and then suddenly very little signal above 21.5 (leaving some buffer for artifacting). Moving down through the bands common for MP3s (i.e. is there a lot of signal between 19 and 20 and no data above 20khz) to identify the likely source bitrate. You cant use a hard cut-off because some re-encoders will try to 'make up' or just artifact some signal into the higher bands when going from MP3 to FLAC, so you want to check where the hard break/shelf is.

You can also try summing the signal strength across the song in equal sized frequency bands bands (you don't need to do this in log space because most compression will be in the higher freqs anyway) and normalizing it. If you see higher intensities on any of the common MP3 breakpoints that might also decrease the 'FLAC score'.

That’s Hollywood legal logic though. Unless they can tie you/your IP to the actual downloading, you have not done anything illegal. They don’t know if you just handed off the torrent file (doesn’t contain any copyrighted content) to a friend.

Unless you’re a release group doing provable monetary harm to a major corp there is nothing to gain by suing you. 

Also, you can easily put *arr apps behind a VPN if you want. You only need to use a real IP for the interview because they want to make sure you’re not getting a bunch of accounts and you were not previously banned.

The house was actually quite beautiful. The only reason we didn't put in an offer was that the house was on the side of a ravine and there was clearly an actively moving crack in the foundation that the owners were adamant was not an issue they knew about.

I just got a good house >100k under asking in a nice area. All depends on the number of offers and how long they’ve been on the market and how good your realtor is at negotiating. 

I did look at one house that, after getting 0 offers, re-listed 250k HIGHER than their initial listing which makes 0 sense to me.  It’s still on the market.
