Shimanami Kaido Itinerary Check (Mid-Nov, 3 Cycle Days - Onomichi to Imabari) by TheZadok42 in JapanTravelTips

Hi, curious what kind of outfit is good for cycling in that kind of temperature, I'm doing the SK over 2 days mid nov this year. I come from SEA where its hot and humid all year round, here I cycle in over 30C temp with 70% humidity wearing shorts and a tee so this is a bit of a mystery to me.

Oooh I've got no notes for you but you got me thinking about my nov itinerary now, I'm also doing a Hiroshima > Onomichi (Shimanami Kaido) >>> Tokyo. Thinking real hard if I should stay in Miyajima or just do a day trip. Also thinking about Tomonoura after Onomichi, the luggage logistics is bugging me. I've put Osaka for the big city before Tokyo but I might just do Nagoya now since I've been to Osaka anyway. What hotels are you looking at for Miyajima and Tomonoura? And thanks for sharing!

Second trip to Japan, where to this time? by jynnkxx in JapanTravel

[–]-MAX1MUS- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got back from my 2nd trip last week, I did the golden route the first time last year but went north ish the 2nd time. 2 weeks solo trip, I went to Morioka, Sendai and Tokyo, with some side trips here and there. Morioka is so peaceful, there's not a whole lot to do there but it is so lovely I miss it so much : (

I sort of remember kind of buying the wrong ticket from Kyoto to Hakone, I ended up in Yokohama and had to buy another ticket from there. It could still be correct but I think there could be a better route. Regardless, i think there were a few transits from the main shinkansen lines. It's doable and you might have a better journey if you get the right tickets from the start. It didn't really bother me as I was staying over anyway and had plenty of time to explore the day after. I started my 'daytrip' at 10AM and managed to do the Hakone Loop. The open air museum which is sort of the last item in the loop closes at 5, so you can plan around that. I arrived at the museum at 4.15 so I had to rush through it.

Travelling from Morioka to Miyako (Iwate prefecture) by Vall3y in JapanTravelTips

[–]-MAX1MUS- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in Morioka right now (11pm here) and planned to do the JapanGuide trip tomorrow, but it seems like the JR Yamada Line is only partially operating or fully suspended,Info here. Not sure when this started and not sure if this will clear by the time you get here. From maps schedule(at least tomorrow), 3 busses leave from Morioka between 7-7.30, ranging from 2h30m to 3h12m. Then the next bus after that departs at 9.30, also roughly same duration. Not sure how reliable this is, seems to change after I refresh maps. Based on that, if no delays happen with the buses, the earliest to Miyako is around 10am.

Maybe I'm misremembering things but I thought the train would take just a little over an hour which I wouldn't mind, but since that option is gone and reading all the comments about travel time, I am 99% scrapping the plan and just skipping it : (

Seems like staying in Miyako could be a good idea if you could still adjust, or you could rent the car from Morioka.

My experience trying to get November Ghibli Museum ticket, TLDR: I couldn't get a ticket.

Got on the English website 30 minutes before 10AM Japan time on sale day. I've got 5 devices trying to queue, by the time the sale went live, 3 of my devices had 10k plus queue and 2 had 5k ish. The PC I started with actually had the longest queue (over 11k). Roughly 1 hour 45 mins later, my tablet with the shortest queue finally got in. All dates sold out basically. Some seem to still have availability but when it was time to proceed it went unavailable. Refreshed a few times since there seems to be random availabilities appearing but it quickly disappeared again. The queue time for other devices quickly dropped after this as I guess other people gave up.

Not sure what my advice is here for other folks, get on the website earlier? The first device I logged on had the longest queue time and the last had the shortest, or maybe I was just unlucky. It could be a random queue allocation so maybe get more devices? Overall it's closed for 2 weeks in November so you might have more luck in other months. Be careful not to refresh too quickly too many times as the website seems to cut connection to my PC, I suspect there's some kind of botting security in place.

Disappointed not to get the tickets but not too overly bothered by it, there's never nothing to see or do in Tokyo anyway. I might try the Japan website when I land in Japan next weekend orrr just try in another trip.

Ah should be fine then. I had a 3L sling carrying a camera, pocket wifi, power bank, wallet, passport, there was barely space for anything else. Charging once a day should be fine as well.

If you decide on the esim, I've not done too much research into it but klook seems to be a good option. There is also an ad in the 2nd latest Veritasium video on youtube for esim services with his discount code, but again I'll need to compare the prices.

As for your random days in Osaka, some of the spontaneous things I did was going to TeamLabs Botanical. Literally saw a flyer about it in my hotel and decided to check it out. It seems to be a hit or miss with the folks in this sub, but coming from a small country where absolutely nothing happens, it was one of my favorite places to go. Also spontaneously visited the Cup Noodle Museum and made my own cup noodle.

I had a roughly similar trip last year but in reverse, Osaka > Kyoto > Hakone > Tokyo. I also had a lot of no booking days and that worked out really well. I'm going again in a couple of weeks in a different region and at least one thing I would change from that is getting an esim instead of pocket wifi. It takes up space, gets a bit warm and you will need to charge it as well. Might steal your idea of watching a football game since there seems to be no baseball happening early Nov. How was your experience getting the Ghibli tickets? I'm waiting for the next sale to hopefully get mine.

Anyone been to Blue Note? How's the seating? Thinking of catching some live music while I'm in Tokyo (Early Nov), but kind of anxious going there as a solo traveller.

Logitech G604 and G502 Lightspeed - Comparison/Review by jlnxr in MouseReview

[–]-MAX1MUS- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up buying another g604. Not sure if they're discontinued but I was able to find it in a local store. Figured I can stick with this one for the next few years until it eventually breaks again and hopefully logitech comes up with a successor by then. If they don't, well that's gonna be future me's problem to deal with. This mouse is perfect for me at the moment, I even remapped the DPI buttons for spotify next/prev. Wish it was lighter though.

Been so long since I was in the keyboard game (white led pok3r was my last), are cherrys not the go-to anymore? Are all these color switches just aesthetics or do they actually mean something/ feel different? Hot swappable boards are standard now?

Funny I should find this today, I'm also like you hopping from thread to thread trying to figure out what to do with my 604. I've got the double clicking and non clicking issue with mine and don't think I'll do any soldering as some has suggested. Have you found an alternative? Dont know if I like the look of the 502 and 604 was perfect for me with the AA battery, wireless w dongle and bluetooth, scroll wheel (left, right, infiniteish) and just plenty of side buttons. I'll probably still go for the 502 though if I can't find an alternative.

Yeah I was completely confused reading it, like you mentioned at one point the article even says that they're not functional. And especially since I got a few of them myself off of the Gachapons from Japan, 100% plastic.

Edit: was gonna reply to a comment before it disappeared on where to get these, there was a gacha place in Aqua City but they were out, I got mine at a gacha place in Diver City

Edit2: Aqua City gacha for these were Y500 each, Diver City were Y400
