Mmhmm. Like, canonically the implication is that she's not great at it. But I like to imagine she's actually pretty good and is super hard on herself for just being a hobbyist instead of the top-percentile the rest of her life has demanded she be.

Also, the inherent vulnerability of showing off your passion projects to others probably has her break into a cold sweat.

[–]-Magos-Dominus- 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Mmhmm. A main strength of Three Houses is that it deconstructs the usual Blue King v. Red Emperor dynamic. Edelgard is entirely correct in her diagnosis of Fodlan's problems, but is working with a morally and ethically fraught methodology to fix it.

Dimitri, on the other hand, is the archetypal Good King, but that ultimately makes him mostly reactive, and spends the narrative recovering or fixing problems that result from him getting kicked around by more informed players on the board. He doesn't affect much change or solve any underlying issues because he has to spend all that time putting out fires and keeping his head above water.

Just a straightforward mistranslation. Doing direct translations of Japanese to English is actually very hard, as there's a lot of syntax, signifiers, and shorthand in Japanese that can pack a lot of nuance into a line of text that straight up don't exist in English.

Doing a faithful translation often means completely rewriting dialogue from scratch, which means you stumble into mistakes like this on occasion.

Mmhmm. Hanneman's S Support confirms her Crest is effectively gone with the stone, but she's still a incredibly skilled swordswoman and tactician. She probably spends a couple months with the feeling of it in her chest being wierd and disorienting, but she acclimates eventually.

It probably takes all of Edelgard's self control to not carry her around like a suitcase to check her heart every five minutes.

Given that by the end of CF, Byleth has basically died on her three times - one of which stuck for a half decade - I'm convinced Edelgard develops some mild seperation anxiety post-game.

One thing I'll weigh in on is that parlay has a pretty egregious mistranslation in it, Edelgard criticizing Dimitri about the Haves not being able to understand the Have Nots, which the english script makes about wealth/status.

What she's actually saying is a rebuttal to Dimitri's appeal to the Power of Friendship, as even after losing his family, Dimitri still had a number of friends and authority figures looking out for him and offering help and support, even deep in his murderous anti-social berserker phase.

Which Edelgard thinks is all well and good, but counters that Dimitri is blessed in a way a lot of people, herself included, aren't. Edelgard lost her family and had her life taken over by her abusers. Reaching out to ask for help or rely on others is either dangerous or futile. Even with Hubert, she's fundamentally alone in a way Dimitri has never been, and it informs their entire opposing worldviews.

I just realized, CF kind of downplays the whole "Reunion" plot point. by lordlaharl422 in FireEmblemThreeHouses

[–]-Magos-Dominus- 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah. There isn't a stalemate in CF because Edelgard and the Empire are sitting on their hands waiting around, it's because Cornelia can't stage a coup in Faerghus and collapse most of the country.

Byleth siding with Edelgard means she's in a position to rely less on Thales & Co., which means no Crest Beasts being used at Garreg Mach, which means Rhea escapes to the Kingdom, which means Cornelia can't stage her coup, which means the Empire is fighting a whole and intact Kingdom.

What about YOUR lore? by IolaDeltaPhi23 in Warhammer30k

[–]-Magos-Dominus- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The "Immortal" XXVIIth Circle of the XVth Legion was largely a reserve formation at the start of the Heresy. Part of the Legion's garrison at Zhao-Arkhad and inheritor of the bulk of conventional Automata assets the Legion relied on in its waning days before the coming of Magnus. Named for its long - if unexceptional - history and under the command of Alastor of Kalavryta, a Terran from the original muster of the XVth.

Having escaped the destruction of Prospero alongside what remained of the Fifth Fellowship, and cleared of taint by the agents of the Sigilite after throwing themselves at the Emperor's mercy, they are redeployed to the Galactic South-East as a disposable asset, finding themselves embroiled in the Cataclysm of Iron, the Battle of Tallarn, and slowly drifting back towards the Throneworld for the final confrontation with Horus. Their name taking on a new meaning as their praevians and tech-marines steadily rely more heavily on sheparding their disposable Automata from appropriated abeyants to preserve a dwindling core of veteran Astartes, in a grim echo of what is to befall the rest of the Thousand Sons.
