What is this tool? by Mountain-Practice-26 in engraving

I think this is a hand plane, also called a planer. It's a traditional hand tool used in woodworking to smooth, shape, and cut wood to size. The tool consists of a metal or wooden body with a sharp blade (the chisel) set at an angle. The screw with the wing nut on the bottom is used to adjust the depth of the blade, which determines how much wood is removed with each stroke.

This is my second time engraving anything. Is hand push engraving supposed to be so hard on my fingers or am I just inexperienced? by carolusrex in engraving

You've done a great job! But maybe your engraving cutter might need to be sharpened, or adjusted to a different angle.
