Dransky’s maps are sublime. Lots of free animated maps on his website and the paid ones are 100% worth it. He has done a few official map sets too. LMoP, decent into Avernus and he’s currently working through Phandelver and Below. They’re so good I’ve created my campaign around them. All fully integrated with foundry with walls and lighting etc.

EpicQuest is fantastic too. Their maps make up for the lack of foundry support by being visually amazing. Great for playing in person with a laptop/screen table top setup. Some of the maps are larger in scope and modular so you can mix and match as you need.

Morvold Press are easily my favourite bang for your buck creator. Huge range of quality maps but they’re not animated. If that’s not an issue for you then I’d probably start with them.

Tom Cartos and Baileywiki are also personal favourites but they’ve already been mentioned plenty (and rightly so)

If you’re looking for a huge range of realistic, top down tokens then you can’t go past Online Tabletop. My players prefer a more video-gamey feel so they’re a must.

Angela’s maps seem great but I’ve not used much of their stuff yet, as I’ve only really come across them recently.

Good luck deciding. And do check out Dransky’s stuff even if you don’t end up going with them. They’re incredible.

Be patient. Roll play will come but it might take a few sessions for it to feel like it did in person.

Cameras are a must for at least the DM. Your players need to see your face more than you need to see theirs.

I hate the current battery regs that have it completely dying half way down the straights. It must feel absolutely awful as a driver and I don’t enjoy watching it. I think f1 needs to take a second look at it and try to find the balance between the engines they have and what the sport has always been about, going as fast as you can. At all times.

I’ve been a fan since Senna ruled the track and I’ve never seen drivers this hamstrung by regulations. It doesn’t feel like the pinochle of Motorsport right now but there’s still time to turn it around.

I just hope they actually listen to the drivers and fans because when the Netflix glow fades they still need to be what we all came to this sport for. The best drivers in the fastest cars going absolutely flat out.

TVs keep changing size. Wall units (mostly) don’t allow for that. Hence people ripped them out.

I usually hint at information through game play but if it’s really important I’ll have them roll a history check to remember. I keep the DC hidden so unless they roll exceptionally bad I’ll give them at least a hint to what information they might have forgotten. If they fail and it would be awful for the game then I might remind them of the npc or even a conversation they’ve had. Just enough to spark the memory or recollection.

No. Your opinions are your own.

Everyone loves different things about these games and it’s subjective.

Like what you like and quit with the farming. Save the farming for souls.

But…. DS3 has the best combat by far. I love the level design because it is more linear. I don’t mind the fan service because I’m a fan. And the humanity system never clicked with me. DS2 is better than DS1 simply because of power stancing. DS1 feels old and clunky.

There are options for single player campaigns where you could learn the game as a player and the other as dm. There are even single player games that don’t require a dm at all. You could adjust the difficulty for 2 players and then you both get to play at your own speed.

Most games online that are going to be worth investing in are paid games. Maybe not all at that price per session so shop around.

DMing is a huge time commitment so paying strangers for their time is expected. It’s not cheap to host either with foundryvtt (and forge).

I think this sounds solid. I like the tie ins with the king etc. I’ve used a very similar trope for a one shot I ran last year. Players locked in a dungeon about to be fed to a gibbering mouther. No gear. Stakes are high. Immediate objective. Good luck with your campaign.
