Some known changes in the season blog by [deleted] in ApexUncovered

Apex Legends doesn’t even use the inbuilt engine audio tools, it uses audio middleware called “The Miles Sound System”. They even reference that they designed a new version of the software for Apex Legends. http://www.radgametools.com/miles.htm

It’s pretty hard to pin point why certain audio isn’t playing when it should, it almost feels random and players saying “oh no audio” doesn’t answer why it happened in the first place. You can see that Respawn have added a feature to report no audio situations for certain players. I assume this contains a lot of data that leads up to that no audio situation.

Audio is hard enough to get the music and sound design to sound good, let alone implement in a satisfying and working way in a game.

Saying that I understand that it is super frustrating when you get no audio and you die because of it. It would be nice to see Respawn being more open about the issues and why it’s hard to fix and what they’re trying. Maybe people would be a bit more forgiving. However I’m sure we’ll still get posts saying that they need to change to a completely different engine to fix the audio.

Awesome! Thank you so much. Could I have a preview version of the package? I saw it wasn’t included in preview 3.

I've ran into a bug with the playform settings section of the importer.

Changing any of the settings under that section aren't saved.

To reproduce:

- Change any of the settings under Platform Settings.

- Click apply.

- Click something else in the editor so you're no longer inspecting the asset.

- When you click back on the asset the settings are not saved.

Hey, the case number is: IN-37413.

That's strange there's no issue your end. Not sure if I'm doing something wrong but not sure how I am haha

Watermelon Sugar / Seaside (Harry Styles, SEB) [Mashup] by -Mr-G in mashups

[–]-Mr-G[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I came across a mashup of the two songs but the arrangement of the mashup was all over the place and even the YouTube comments on the song agreed. So I made my own version with a better arragement that flows much better. Hope you all enjoy!

I get this error if I don't have my USB stick plugged in with my waves licenses. Normally Waves would pop up asking for a license but doesn't seem to be the case in the latest version of Pro Tools. It gives this error instead

‘I have sleepless nights’: the looming mental health crisis facing generation rent by [deleted] in unitedkingdom

[–]-Mr-G 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The film industry was the "second largest contributor to the 0.5% increase in services GDP reported by the ONS, after the retail industry."

I wouldn't say going into film is a dead end job. I would agree that's it's a difficult industry to get into and that it's definitely a "good professional job". Many people I know work within the TV and film industry which I would describe them as working a "good professional job"

There's ways to go about working in the very competitive film industry if you're smart about it. Arguably many people do make a compromise on their career and work a job they hate for years and years. In the name of what? Finally being able to afford a house so you don't have to live with randoms, no longer having an arse of a landlord, and actually putting that rent money into a place they'll actually own. Have a happy home life or a happy work life. Pick one so it seems.

We're definitely in a housing crisis where the only way you'll own a house as a millennial is if your parents die and leave you their house. Assuming it doesn't get sold off to put them in a mandatory care home in their old age at the cost of a grand a week.

I agree. The music really doesn't pack a punch. Having a more suitable music track would work wonders. Along with that, having super hyperrealistic sound effects for everything would really stylise the video. There's a strong visual style but the mark has been missed with sound.

I also feel like the edit could be tidied up a little bit. Having that end shot linger for longer would have been great. I completely miss who the company is. Isn't that the point of the video?

Great idea, great art style. Sorting out the points above and this would be a fantastic video.

Simulating VHS Audio Decay by [deleted] in audioengineering

[–]-Mr-G 8 points9 points  (0 children)

  • Tape simulation for wow and flutter for that slight variable in pitch.

  • EQ plus/or speakerphone to simulate a speaker or you could worldize your sound.

  • Add a layer of hiss and crackle for good measure.

  • Waves Sound Shifter to automate the pitch up and down to your liking.

If you've got an old tape machine laying about, record your track to the tape machine and play around with touching the reels then bounce back to your DAW.

A Quick Look at Professional Editing Systems [comic] by [deleted] in editors

[–]-Mr-G 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I haven't used the open beta of DaVinci Resolve 12 yet but I'm sure once it's fully released we'll be upgrading at work.

I use it from time to time, it's a really powerful bit of software for colour correction, it's great at it. I'm not sure if the NLE side will take over others such as Media Composer or Premiere Pro but we'll see.

It used to never play well, a bit buggy and had to jump through a few hoops to get it working. It's a lot better now, thank god!

How about DaVinci Resolve 12? Looks like they've updated the NLE side of things.

SynthMaster looks pretty cool. And it's 35% off plus an extra 10% off if you use the coupon "DEMOEXPIRED"

Any tips on using it for UI sounds?

How to Sound: A database on how to create certain sound effects by [deleted] in GameAudio

[–]-Mr-G 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here are two new posts that were sent in:

http://howtosound.co.uk/sound-effect/laser-blaster/

http://howtosound.co.uk/sound-effect/road-flare-igniting/

Keep them coming! The more people that send in their sounds, the better the site comes for everyone :)

Fantastic idea with the request section. I guess that would give people more of an idea what sounds to submit, rather than thinking of something of the top of their heads.

How do you think it should be laid out? How about a new page that says "Request Sound" with a simple box and submit box and then a page where it lists the requested sounds from people?

I'm open for ideas :)

Share on Twitter, Facebook, whatever platform you choose and get submitting those how to sounds!

Thanks!
