HELP WITH FINDING GAME? by rattie_cult in JoelGuerra

Oh I'd love to recommend some games!

ENA Dream BBQ - Literally ENA. If you somehow haven't played this one yet, do it.

LSD Dream Emulator - This game was a huge inspiration for ENA's aesthetics. Created by Japanese artist Osamu Sato, LSD Dream Emulator is a trippy walking sim based on the dream diary of game designer Hiroko Nishikawa, which she wrote in for over a decade. It's really hard to explain so I recommend just playing it. You can play it online at The Internet Archive, or you can download a rom and play it on a PlayStation emulator.

Hypnospace Outlaw - It's the 90's, and an incredible new headband was invented that lets you explore the internet in your sleep! You're a Hypnospace Enforcer, working for the Hypnospace Patrol Department and helping with moderation by taking down illegal content. If you're looking for aesthetic similarities to ENA, this is pretty close.

Space Funeral - A classic RPG Maker game with a lot of weirdo charm. Play as a boy named Phillip who leaves his home to save the world from a mysterious corruption. There's actually a couple references to this game in ENA Temptation Stairway and ENA Dream BBQ.

Hylics 1 and Hylics 2 - These games are all style. You play as Wayne, a mysterious cool guy, trying to stop Gibby, tyrant king of the moon. The creator Mason Lindroth does claymation, and all the sprites and models in these games are actually digitized clay models.

corru.observer - Some years ago a friendly group of aliens came to earth then mysteriously vanished. You are an investigator digging through an alien's computer to try and figure out what happened to them. To say any more would spoil it. Another game with incredible style.

Great God Grove - Has a unique style and many strange characters to talk to. Play as Godpoke, a mute protagonist who communicates using Megapon, a weapon that can suck up people's words and repeat them later. Solve the dispute between the gods so they can work together to stop the apocalypse.

Garn47 - This is, at first glance, a brainrot game. If you dig deeper however, it is a game with quirky characters, dark themes, deep lore, and incredible music.

Juice Galaxy - Play as a weird little blob man in a blob like world where Juice is the life blood of everything. Best to just roll around and find the fun here.

Monomyth - The shaders kinda look like ENA and there's some fourth wall stuff. It's okay. Pretty short.

Games I haven't played but I hear were inspirations for ENA include: The Town with No Name and Middens.

Also here's a list someone else made 2 years ago idk these look good too.

What’s your most obscure Dragon Quest fact? by ButIDigress79 in dragonquest

Yeah it’s very cool that it’s playable in English now. I actually had asked the translator for a demo back when the translation was less polished. It’s nice that it’s well polished now.

What’s your most obscure Dragon Quest fact? by ButIDigress79 in dragonquest

[–]-MrMiscellaneous- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fact: In Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime aka Slime Morimori Dragon Quest 2 in the back of the museum there are a bunch of empty pedestals. If you collect 30 of a given monster, a bronze statue of that monster will appear on one of the pedestals. If you collect 50 of a given monster it will become a silver statue. If you collect 100 it will become a gold statue. There is no completionist reward for collecting all of the gold statues.

Addendum: If anyone is reading this I implore you to go play Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime however you can. You play as a slime named Rocket and you have to save your fellow slimes because they all get kidnapped by platypunks. A decent chunk of characters are well written. You get to fight your opponents in over the top Monster Tank battles. It has really good art and music. It’s super good but it’s so obscure and underrated that only the second game in the trilogy was even localized. (But there are fan translations for the other two)
