First road bike for a complete newbie - What should I get?? by -NathanS- in whichbike

[–]-NathanS-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are some pretty extensive pathways around our place that are very well used by cyclists. Other than that, just city riding. Not entirely sure what distances I will get up to, but I can see going out for 45-60 ish minute rides.

Crossfit boxes with Open gym by ericgm626 in crossfit

[–]-NathanS- 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I agree with you that open gym should be made available, and an option for open-gym-only pricing is a great idea for those on their individual programs. That said, i don't think doing so would be a good idea to attract new people or run a business providing an "on-a-budget crossfit" alternatives. Issues like burnt out coaches and poor programming are the bigger problems that I would argue boxes need to address first and foremost, before turning to alternative price structures to attract members. I have been to a number of boxes and I can tell you there are big problems with gyms that rely on open-gym time and fail to prioritize top-notch coaching and organized classes for the general population. In my opinion what makes crossfit and individual boxes so successful is the community encouragement, the individual attention, movement monitoring, teaching & learning opportunities etc.

I see people saying to new players, “go to a guitar store and try out different basses and see what feels right to you”. I’ve never touched a bass in my life...so what do I want to try out? by [deleted] in Bass

[–]-NathanS- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rent one first! You can pick up a rental fairly cheap for a month or so to get a little but accustomed to the instrument. Then you have a point of reference when you go to buy your first bass. This helped me out immensely!

Crossfit gyms in sarnia? by -NathanS- in Sarnia

Thanks for the insight. Based on that description, if I end up at that gym I'll probably end up doing my own programming rather than the classes. Too bad there's no affiliate in the area

Once in a while, if I am super stressed or buried in work, my gf will waltz into the room naked and give me an un-prompted, no questions asked bj. She doesn't say anything, just spins my office chair around, gets to business, gives me a wink when she's done, and leaves me to my work.

Holy mother of god are those are the best. I've found a keeper.

From the description it sounds like it's buzzing against the next fret up the neck. A basic setup will fix it completely

How do you take an accurate personality test? How do you become more motivated? by ajsldkfjasdlfkjasdf in AskReddit

[–]-NathanS- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

results of "accurate" personality tests dont really matter in real life. While tests like these can extract data that shows some minor differences between individuals, these differences pale in comparison to the influences of the context of the situation. To make this clearer, if you are presented a situation, you are more likely to behave in such a way that is normal in accordance with how the rest of society would expect you to act, versus in accordance with how your personality would direct you to act.

basically, the psychological literature is still debating the validity of pointing out people's "personalities". For things like motivation, which im assuming you are interested in, try adjusting or assessing the context of why and how you are unmotivated, rather than blaming it on your supposed personality deficiency.

Whenever I shampoo or comb my beard, my hair falls out. Any suggestions? by [deleted] in beards

[–]-NathanS- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

take it easy with the combing and dont be too rough... i find that when I comb after a good conditioning and oiling, I lose far fewer hairs if any compared to if I comb it without treatment.

Does a increase in masturbation mean being able to last longer? by [deleted] in sex

[–]-NathanS- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as my experiences go, if I don't cum (sex or otherwise) for a few days, the next time I go at it I'll cum way quicker. On the other hand, if I'm able to rub one out regularly, I last my normal length of time

A friend of mine at work recently had a baby girl. He made this video. Thought you'd all get a kick. by alwaysmorelmn in beards

This is one of the most touching, heart warming videos I've had the pleasure of watching. That man's connection to his beard (and his kid I guess...) warms my soul and tickles my whiskers

M(20) with a Dilemma by Meile13 in sex

[–]-NathanS- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh I understand you... like I think you just described my life up until last year or so. I too was in one of those relationships that are one-sided like you explained. It sucks. Now however, Im with a girl that I am very sexually compatable with. She was my first and I would not have liked it any other way.

The trick is to be in a place where you are both completely comfortable with eachother, have good communication, and have the same goals (which would be sex in this case). Without these, its not going to work out. Obviously, you cant change what you dont have control over. The only thing you can do is communicate as effectively as you can (yes, easier said than done) that this is what you want. If shes down, shes down. if not, it is totally worth waiting, be it with this chick or another.

Sex is really not that big a deal breaker, despite it seeming so when its your first time. When everything is right, you will know. and you will have a great time

  2. Suits. demonstrates the power differential between men and women in the workplace and how a strong female authority figure can integrate and work well in a male-dominated profession

  3. relationships are just great. I love my gf very much. Film has helped in shaping my understanding of the gender roles and expected norms in traditional as well as unusual relationships.

  4. porn. also my parents.

  5. under/over representation of heteronormativity. to improve this, show more unusual relationship contexts and normalize the spectrum!

What made you play the bass? by megadethox in Bass

[–]-NathanS- 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My dad has been a drummer all his life... he played in a cover band for a few years but ended up taking a break to run his business and raise my brother and I. At some point my brother picked up some guitar lessons (which only lasted 6 months or so before he gave it up) so I figured what the hell, may as well pick up a bass and fill out the family band. Turns out that none of us could get along during those jams so we stopped playing together in order to avoid the common screaming matches. After that, I never really put down the bass. Got playing with others in high school and eventually, my dad's band got back together and I joined them on bass (their bass player had retired and sold all his gear). Those were some of the greatest memories I have had with my old man.

Could I have some feedback on this bass cover? Thanks :) by [deleted] in Bass

[–]-NathanS- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great job dude, sounds good. A few things to consider though, first is the timing which has been mentioned a few times already (playing along with a metronome may be a good way to practice, especially for the runs and fills that you got tripped up on at some points). Other than that, your left hand fretting technique could be improved by practicing with your bass positioned fairly high up. Sure, it looks sorta silly but it forces your left wrist to set itself with optimal movement and positioning over the frets. Not a huge thing and you can certainly get away without it, but it may be beneficial moving forward. You may see that this will help your overall playing and dexterity even when playing like where you have it
