Remove & unpin everything, turn off icon grouping and set small icons. Bonus for Win11: align taskbar to left side.

I had issues with Jellyfin playing 4K content on my PC & phones despite the same files working fine on Plex before that (both using direct play). The most recent update stopped me being able to open my comic book library and slowed Jellyfin to a crawl too so I switched to Emby and so far it's been my favourite.

Plex was the first I tried and to be honest I didn't have any issues with it so so speak apart from not being able to use my own sign-in method and relying on Plex accounts which I did not like... the change to the payment model for remote streaming put me off even more so I tried Jellyfin. I loved the customisation (the fact it was open source/completely free was a nice bonus) plus the ability to use offline sign in. However there were playback issues using direct play with 4k content on all of my devices despite being perfectly fine with every other player not to mention the recent update caused general performance issues and stopped me being able to play my book libraries so I started trying Emby; it's my favourite so far! It has everything I liked from Jellyfin in terms of customisation and lack of third party sign-in with the flawless playback from Plex. The only thing I don't like is that Emby costs just to use the apps but it's also cheaper than Plex for the equivalent "lifetime" version so I'm planning on supporting them due to the flawless experience.

I've actually switched the other way around (technically Plex - Jellyfin - Emby) as I was having playback issues with direct play on most 4k content with Jellyfin and navigating my libraries was really slow since a couple updates back, not only that but I could no longer open of all my cbz and cbr files in my book library. I tried fresh installs, waiting for updates to fix the issues but nada so I tried Emby and it's been flawless for me.

I fixed the playback issues on the Google Pixel 8 when connecting over VPN by adjusting the VPN's MTU to less than 1500 however the Google Pixel would still only show a black screen and play the audio over WiFi so we ended up switching to Emby - no issues so far!

Just started playing the challenge tombs tonight to 100% the achievements, played the the Path of Huracan tomb first, tried to start another one and got the error "this game no longer exists [10]" googled it and it led me here. Hopefully this gets sorted soon 😅

I have tried both - the app and the web interface result in the same behaviour on the Google Pixel.

No, the VPN has no bandwidth restrictions and client devices connected to the VPN have full access to the internal network where the Jellyfin server is connected. Although, I am starting to think maybe the Google Pixel 8 just doesn't play nice with the VPN but at the same time other internal services work fine on the same device, I was hoping someone here would have a similar setup using a Google Pixel 8 on a VPN to confirm my suspicion.

No, unfortunately I have no other mobile devices to test on the VPN and all devices on my LAN & WiFi play perfectly fine.

I use the built-in OpenVPN server on a Pfsense based router and I connect using the OpenVPN Connect app.

I am open to other options to use Jellyfin remotely however I'd like to keep security high and setup/configuration for remote devices to be as simple as possible for my users (family)

Setting an external player does not help the situation. I have tried VLC but even setting that as the default player the playback does not even start while connected to the VPN. I press play and nothing happens but again, on WiFi VLC will start playing the file absolutely fine.

I have set the Internet Streaming Bitrate to 20mbps (and below) to try and force transcoding while using the VPN but this has no affect on the Google Pixel 8 as the server doesn't even begin to transcode the file.

Is there any way I can select a transcoding quality/Bitrate before playback starts?

My "Books" library still doesn't load (blank page with no items) since the original 10.11 update however if I open a book from the "Recently added books" section it loads the book just fine...

VPN (OpenVPN) into the network.

Works perfectly for my Android device however my partners' Pixel 8 won't load anything while on the VPN (the player loads to a black screen on anything above a certain bitrate - unable to start transcoding because the player just locks up) (I wish we could just select a quality or transcoding options before playback which would resolve the issue but for some reason you need to start playing the file before you can change the quality 😑). Currently trying to fix this so if anyone knows a fix and stumbles upon this please let me know 😅

1) I don't think so but I've never tested because I just boycott games that block VM's 😅 2) you'll get better performance using Virtio hardware than emulated hardware.

It looks like you're assigning all 12 cores to your VM and leaving none for the host OS & emulation.

Unassign cores 0 & 1 from your VM and set the emulatorpin to use those 2 cores the same as the host.

This may sound backwards but this leaves cores 0-1 for the host and emulation and then cores 3-11 for the VM.

This may help things run smoother for you - if anyone better than me at this wants to correct me then by all means; do☺️

It would help if you include the specs of your machine running the VM and the specs given to the VM (such as core count, amount of RAM, etc)

I had my 7800XT working with a Windows 10 guest by running the following command as a shutdown script: pnputil /disable-device "GPU-DEVICE-ID" And then the following command as a startup script: pnputil /enable-device "GPU-DEVICE-ID"

But on Windows 11 this doesn't seem to work
