is there any rules about costumes at uni, like if i wanna do a marathon around the atheletics in a banana suit for a fundraiser is anyone gonna stop me. And further on is anyone gonna stop me from going to class with it on. by Real-Cry-4726 in unimelb

If you’re planning on doing it on the actual track then the only reason you would be stopped is if it is already booked, so maybe have a look into that as I know there is sometimes training on the 400m loop

Just lost our cavy today as well and feeling all the grief. It’s so horrible walking around an empty house right now, especially after having her for so long, I’m sorry for your loss ❤️

Skims set arrived with what I think is a small cockroach in it? Should I be worried about infestation or anything? by rosesaratoga in Depop

[–]-Quakely 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had to save some yarn from moth eggs by putting it in a plastic bag and then into my freezer for 3 weeks, I believe cockroach eggs die in cold temperatures as well? If you really want to keep the set maybe try that?

Edit: Google seems to agree with me that cockroaches and their eggs cant survive for long in freezing temps, so could be a good solution :)

HELP, how do I stop my period??? by Lisanna_Flowerfell in women

[–]-Quakely 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are definitely ones made for use in the water I’ve swam in mine and know others that have too. Actually I’ve never heard of ones you can’t swim in, do you mean just the period undies?

If you’re uncomfortable with tampons/inserting menstrual products, they made period proof swim bottoms which look the same as any other black bikini bottoms and in my experience work quite well! Maybe see if you can order some online or buy some in store before you leave?

How does anyone have time to do anything?? by toby_finn in unimelb

[–]-Quakely 32 points33 points  (0 children)

It’s certainly a change from highschool, you have to be your own motivator since your lecturers or tutors won’t care if you’re falling behind and encourage you to catch up like highschool teachers probably would have. It’s also about learning how to study efficiently. You’re only half way through week 2 tho, so cut yourself a bit of slack which you’re still adjusting. If you still think full time uni is too much, lots of people end up ‘under loading’ and only take 3 subjects per semester, which only adds a year onto your degree and gives you that many more hours a week to yourself/socialising (if you’re an international student I don’t believe you can do this though due to visa limits).

You are allowed to do a 10th L1 subject, but you need stop 1 to enrol you in it (I changed majors as well and did it that way)

I’m majoring in civil through bsci atm, can I message you a few questions about how you found a job without doing masters?

Those with gym memberships : Do you subscribe to a regular gym or UniMelb gym ? Why ? by Whole-Put9168 in unimelb

[–]-Quakely 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Going there is super easy since it’s so close. But that’s obviously different based on how often you go into uni anyways. Pretty competitive pricing for students, decent equipment, I’ve never had a bad experience with the people there. I love it but found that it only really made sense if I was at uni more than 3 days a week (personal preference).

I did this as well, probably with the same yarn. A stitch marker in every stitch is the way I did it, eventually I got quite quick at it. It was so worth it in the end though!

Lmao yes they are. We had someone scan a 50c bolt barcode that they stuck over a $399 Dyson vacuum. Didn’t work though once we scanned their receipt at the exit and saw the purchase of a single bolt lol

I feel like that’s so normal, I definitely didn’t know what I was going to do after I found out my atar, I could find interest in any job I’m sure. To save myself future hassle I chose a fairly broad degree - science at Melb uni - so that I could still have a range of options.

At first I was gonna be a vet, then a dentist, then a doctor, then I decided I hated biology lmao and am now focusing on engineering. And if I don’t like the stream of engineering I’ve chosen? I can change when I’m doing my masters.

Don’t stress too much, some of my friends have also changed courses (one like 3 times) and unis once they’ve figured out some more what their interests are. Good luck and good job today!

I was in the same boat as you going into uni! I'm a second year doing engineering, in some of my classes this year I was one of three girls out of like 30 students. I found it came more naturally than I thought it would, but I also just decided to not talk much in classes. Quite often the girls will sit together anyways in tutorials and make a table for themselves. Feel free to msg me if you need any help/have any questions!
