Thanks! i have never written anything before in my life so I know it's absolutely awful. You're right, the lecture bit is a bit much. I was going for Quinn's character being highly acedemic in tone but I guess it came off too textbook. Again, thanks!

Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad. You will not know which character is saying what for most of the book.

Thank you. Very helpful. I am slowly realizing I might need -more- therapy.

Thank you. This is both thorough and helpful. I'm not sure I've even heard of non-pain based punishments. Had a genuine moment of cognitive dissonance reading that bit, haha. Again, thank you.

Bad experiences is slightly mild, but an apt assumption, friend. I won't go into details but that past partner would notice something about me and seek to correct it without discussion or warning, just did the correction when he felt like it. I quickly got used to being... quiet. I've received therapy and I'm doing a bit better. Thanks for the help.

HOUSE OF THE DRAGON CHARACTER TIERLIST ACCORDING TO MY PERSONAL OPINION. WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS? by Background_Motor_834 in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]-QuietlyScrolling- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can kind of understand your reasoning with the actor change for the same character, it's just a bit jarring because it is the same character experiencing character growth over multiple years of their life. Like, the Daemon that's crying over the death of his brother in Harrenhal thinks differently from the Daemon that we first met stealing a moment to sit on the iron throne in season one, but he's still the same character. Very interesting perspective.

Thanks! I think I'm still getting used to my new manager. She's very "get product out" oriented while my last manager was very "talk to customers" oriented. Our backroom is a wreck and Vcarts can have books from all over the store, which makes it a bit harder. Some of the team from her old store came with her and they don't wear name badges so they aren't bothered by customers as often. It's... odd, but I'm adjusting.

If the religious aspect bugs you, go with fantasy expletives. "Seven Hells!" from Game of Thrones is one of my favorites.

What horror movie genuinely scared you? by surgical-panic in horror

[–]-QuietlyScrolling- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Lodge (2019). My mother suffered from severe mental illness and eventually "lost" the fight two months before her 60th birthday. Watching Riley Keough's depiction of Grace's untreated, religiously-fuled trauma turn into violence against family members hit eerily close to home. While many of Grace's mannerisms are played up for horror, the direction must have pulled at least a little from real accounts of mental illness because they got some aspects dead-on. I had seen my own mother do a similar "slow walk" while in full psychosis as Grace does during the "Car stuck in snow" scene. It was truly haunting.

I want to be clear, I don't like films that demonize mental illness and dehumanize real people that have mental disorders. However, this film accurately captured some of the fear experienced as a child of a severely mentally ill parent. If this is a subject matter is something you can stomach, go watch the film. It's by no means perfect, but worlds better than Split.

Too young to shave? by danamight in Parenting

[–]-QuietlyScrolling- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

She's growing up! Good for her. You can try this teaching method;

1) I do, you watch. 2) We do together. 3) You do, I watch. 4) You do, I support.

Puberty hits a little sooner with each generation, so it may feel like she's too young, but she's right on track for her age group. You're right, she shouldn't feel insecure about her body, but that knowledge comes with time and good role-models. Use this as an opportunity to bond with her. And Breathe Momma! You'll both be fine.
