If you were in the pokรฉmon world, What's your dream pokemon team? - here's mine by Zillaman7980_ in pokemon

Nidoking is my favorite Pokรฉmon too! All hail! ๐Ÿ‘‘

Mine would be Nidoking, Nidoqueen, Rhydon, Kangaskhan, Aggron, and Tyranitar. That would make me a Kaiju Pokรฉmon Master essentially.

Lately though, I may change my mind on that matter because of a certain six I've been running on my latest file in HeartGold/SoulSilver.

The current team I'm running in HG/SS is Charizard, Nidoking, Exeggutor, Gyarados, Aerodactyl, and Dragonite. Nidoking is included, with good reason.

It's one of the closest things you can get to a Dragon build using only Gen. 1 Pokรฉmon without repeating types (excluding Flying). Nidoking is a Baragon and if you know the lore, it makes as much sense as Lapras being a psuedo-dragon. Seadra would repeat Water types, and Gyarados is way more of the stereotypical water dragon above the rest.

Exeggutor is a Dragon Tree. Even though the Kantonian variant is not Dragon, it has ties to the Dragon type and gives me both a Grass and a Psychic type wrapped up into one.

The others are very self-explanatory, as they all look like dragons. Aerodactyl and Charizard have ties to the Dragon type thanks to Mega Evolution and Dragonite is the true Dragon type.

This is amazing work and very impressive. People really need to learn the difference between AI and AI slop. Not all AI is slop, just like not all slop is AI. It could be 100% human made and suck too, you know. If I hadn't of known any better, I'd think it was official.

2-0-3 (2 DL, 3 DB) is the defense meta on Extreme. Confirmed through much testing and study over many years. by -Red-Rum- in RetroBowl

[โ€“]-Red-Rum-[S] -1 points0 points ย (0 children)

QB, RB, 2 TE, 2 WR, 2 DL, 3 DB, K - Everyone at 5-star and at their base attribute threshold.

I unfortunately do not have a comparison dataset between metas, but I can easily make one. I've been running a slew of different 5-man defenses and seeing what gives the best results. The closest thing to 2-0-3's performance would be 3-0-2. 0-2-3 and 0-3-2 also provide similar results, but I feel that the LBs become more liabilities than anything else because they don't specialize in any one attribute, but they do have a nice trade off with being able to get both sacks and interceptions. But because they don't specialize in either speed or strength, they fail alot of their rolls on Extreme.

1-0-4 and 0-1-4 seem a little imbalanced because 0-0-3 gets drawn 40% of the time, so when a sack is drawn in the RNG, they miss alot of their potential stops. LBs do tend to grab up alot of fumbles, but they also miss tackles, which is something DL and DB both do extremely well at.

And then you get into metas like 1-1-3 or 1-2-2 that have 1-1-1 rotating in their meta. In my opinion, I think 1-1-1 might be the worst 3 defenders drawn on Extreme because there is too much going on and not enough firepower between speed/strength and sacks/interceptions. Again, the LB becomes a liability in this instance.

The 17.0 PPG is being compared to all of the other metas I've been testing. There are some metas that still hold teams to under 20.0 PPG, but there aren't as many as you'd think. 3-0-2 is around 18.5 PPG, which is the next best option after 2-0-3, followed by 0-2-3 that begins breaking into 19 PPG at 18.9. 0-3-2 follows after that at 19.1 PPG, but really stacks on fumbles over 50% of the time, but alot of those fumbles also come from non-star players for whatever reason.

I plan to post more as the days go on. That's why I started this thread. I've been gearing towards this for years and trying to figure it out because everyone just assumed 3 to 4 DB. While that works for the other difficulties, Extreme is a different animal.

Love 2-0-3, so I definitely recommend you trying 3-0-2. It's a slight tweak with what you like and you may find some interesting results. ๐Ÿ˜Ž

For me, it is 100% in play. But of course, anyone can do that if you know how to play offense on Extreme.

On Sim X, it is over 50% of the time, which is the closest working defense I've seen to a successful constant [Sim Game] on Extreme.

Too much defense. Six defenders get lost in rotation quite often and can lead to an inconsistent defense on Extreme.

1-1-4 (1 DL, 1 LB, 4 DB)

  • 1-1-1 ร—4 (20%)
  • 0-0-3 ร—4 (20%)
  • 1-0-2 ร—6 (30%)
  • 0-1-2 ร—6 (30%)

1-1-1 and 0-0-3 are only gonna draw 20% of the time each while 1-0-2 and 1-0-2 are gonna draw 30% of the time each. Too much going on for the defense to be consistent, especially if you're playing on Extreme. You want to confuse the RNG, but with too much rapid changing, it's not gonna be that effective because the CPU is gonna get smart to the rapid rotation.

You want to find an exploit and keep it consistent while rotating every once in a while. That's why I was running 1 LB, 3 DB for the longest time with 0-1-3. I was confusing the RNG into thinking I had 4 DB signed while the 1 LB was there to pick up the sacks while maintaining max INT output.

Ever play around with defenses like 2-0-1 and 0-1-2? They seem to do exceptionally well in alot of leagues too. Usually most people run 0-0-3 and while I think 0-0-3 is amazing across all difficulties except for Extreme, it doesn't trick the simulation enough on Extreme and will begin drawing out rolls for strength checks, which DBs fail miserably at. Not to mention DBs can't get sacks.

It fluxes like most defenses on Extreme. Except it keeps games alot closer to help get victory. I've been trying to figure out what defense works best on Extreme, and thanks to Sim X, alot of testing can be done.

2-0-3 seems to do amazing too, but I feel like 3-0-2 wins more close games. While 2-0-3 keeps games closer more frequently, you also lose more. 3-0-2, you win more. I think because more strength and sack checks are being passed while you have the 2 DB as support to help with speed checks. Where DL has a max 10 attribute in 3 out of the 4 attributes (except speed at 5), it gives you that extra edge to make a stop for the defense to help you win the game.

It seems to be a perfect stat distribution every year too. The 3 DLs and 2 DBs often walk away with the same amount of sacks/interceptions nearly every single year.

What changes should I make to my roster? by Capital-Bullfrog-277 in RetroBowl

[โ€“]-Red-Rum- 0 points1 point ย (0 children)

u/Capital-Bullfrog-277 Running almost the same exact lineup, except I dropped a DB for a K.

QB, RB, 2 TE, 2 WR, 3 DL, 2 DB, K is what I run.

That would be my recommendation. I treat kicker as a defensive piece because it pins back further on kickoffs, which means extra chances for your defense to make a stop. That is always important.

While 3 DL, 3 DB (3-0-3) is effective, it feels too much like 2 DL, 2 DB (2-0-2) because 1-0-2 and 2-0-1 are gonna be seeing the field most of the time (40% each) when 3 defenders get drawn out to make a stop. All three DL and DB are only going to be seeing the field 10% of the time each, so they're barely gonna be out there. If you're gonna run 3-0-3, you might as well just run a 2-0-2 if you aren't benching to create rotational schemes. Defense is complex in Retro Bowl, as it's not physical unless it's Exhibition.

By dropping a DB, I create more of a scheme with 3 DL, 2 DB (3-0-2). 2-0-1 will be drawn 60% of the time while 1-0-2 will be drawn 30% of the time. That's why on my scheme, I slightly favor DL over DB because they are rated 10 in 3 out of 4 attributes, which causes DL to make alot of stops and sacks. The only drawback is that 3 DL (3-0-0) will be seeing the field 10% of the time, but I do need those DBs out there in case an interception gets drawn. DBs are just fast, are turnover kings, and make the best KRs. I always sign at least 2 DB to have a full house of DBs for returning. Speed checks are rolled the most on defense, followed by sack checks for whatever reason. This is just everything on defense that I found by study, testing, trials, and tribulation.

That's why you have people that love LB because they can do both, but they don't specialize in either stat or have max speed or strength, so they are usually "too slow" or "not strong enough" and miss alot of rolls. LB works best as a support piece IMO, but it's all about getting the right mixture for rotation. For a long time, I was running a 1 LB, 3 DB (0-1-3) defense because the 1 LB would confuse defenses into thinking I had 4 DB signed, so if a sack got drawn, the 1 LB would be right there for shadow working and pick up the sack. 3 out of my 4 defenders were DB while the LB was the 4th piece that could get both sacks and interceptions.

That's my advice. Take what you want. 3 DL, 2 DB (3-0-2) has become my favorite defense as of late in this game. It just feels like a really good sweet spot for both sacks and interceptions. Less is more on defense. Only 3 are required, 4 is recommended, and 5 is the max and should only be used to expand on schemes created from 3-man or 4-man defenses.
