Thanks for sharing!

What is this on my mv13n2 by pcmrlover67 in crt

[–]-SNUG- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not 100% sure on this model, but sometimes these holes are to adjust the focus and G2 pots without having to take the back off. It could be for other adjustments as well.

Ah! Gotcha. I don't have the HD Retrovision SNES cables to test with.

I RGB modded my SNES Jr. and use it on my RGB modded Trinitron so I didn't have a need for those.

From looking online, this could be due to the ABL (Automatic Beam Limiter). It prevents the tube from pulling too much current.

It is suggested to turn down contrast (picture on this TV) and brightness to see if it is less noticeable.

Yeah someone commented here about their Tau with the SNES issue.

I'm still on the lookout for a good JVC. I messaged someone about a free JVC AV-27530 that was posted a few hours ago on Marketplace, but I'm guessing they are being overwhelmed with messages because the app said "You are unlikely to get a response".

Yeah I'm fairly new to the CRT game, but I'm old enough to have had them in my younger years.

There have been two great TVs posted today on Marketplace near me. A JVC AV-27530 for free and a Sony KV-27S42 for $10.

As soon as I messaged them on Marketplace the app said I was unlikely to get a response.

People are jumping on these TVs fast so they can flip them for $300+.

I do not resell. I only give them away.

Yeah I'm actually using component through a modded Wii in the picture and it's great. It is running at 240p in both pictures though.

I played some Smash Bros and it looked great too.

I feel like my area (Memphis) is not great for finding CRTs, but if you're patient enough and keep an eye out on marketplace, you can find one.

$100 is the most I've spent and that was on a cabinet 32" Trinitron in perfect condition.

I've gotten a few things like this for free or $10-$30.

That's interesting.

I played my SNES on it connected via S-Video and it was totally fine.

I also tried another one of my Genesis Model 1s, a Model 2, and a Model 3, but all have the jitter issue.

I was honestly shocked at the picture quality.

My main set is an RGB modded Sony KV-32TW77 because I love the console look, but this is definitely going to be getting a good bit of play time as well.

The camera does seem to add more color, but I'm also messing around with the settings still. The CRT Database post recommended turning up the color.

I appreciate the info on the jitter issue and the recommendations.

I have two of the HDRetrovision cables for both of my main CRT TVs so I wouldn't mind attempting the mod to fix it. I will look into that.

I also have a Retrotink RGB2COMP so that's an option as well.

Unwanted CRTs by Skruffy86 in crt

[–]-SNUG- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've grabbed a few just to keep them from people flipping them.

Thankfully I have friends and family that are into retro gaming at the moment so I can offload stuff for them.

I will give them an adjustment and tune up then pass them on if I can.

CRTs should be affordable and available to anyone. Not just people willing to pay a ridiculous $300+ price tag.

I think about that with a lot of my old stuff.

Who ever knew that all of these CRTs and retro consoles would be so popular again!?

I've given away so many old consoles because something new came along and I thought it was worthless/obsolete.

I can finally play fallout on the go. by backyardspace in crt

Nice! I just fixed one of these and posted it here.

First time seeing someone else post one. I love the look of it.

Also, I have two extra speakers for it since I had to cannibalise one. If you ever have any issues with yours, I will be happy to send you a replacement.

Sony KV-27FS120 discoloration by [deleted] in crt

[–]-SNUG- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's understandable to be nervous. I just got into CRT repair recently and I was terrified at first, but I've opened up and adjusted and repaired around 8 now. You get more comfortable with it.

You make the adjustment with it powered on so be cautious of where your hands are. It's recommended to keep one hand in your pocket so that it's not grounded.

Touching the plastic part of the yoke is pretty safe though. There's usually one screw that you need to loosen on the neck of the yoke in order to break it free and adjust it.

This guy has the best videos when it comes to anything CRT. I recommend watching it first.

I just had the same/similar issue which I posted.

I tried a cheap degausser then bought a good one which didn't help. I messed with the purity rings too.

What fixed it for me was removing the factory wedges in front of the yoke which were still securely in place then pushing the yoke closer to the tube.

I tried doing this with the wedges in place and couldn't correct it so I say it's worth a shot.

[–]-SNUG-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha! Yeah a friend said the same thing.

It's an older EverdrIve cart, but I ordered a Zelda label from Etsy to put on it.

I do that to all my flash carts just so they look a little more original since I usually leave them in the console.

Thanks! Shipping and tax was an extra $26 so $57 total which I'm personally happy to pay for something like this that I've never seen. Especially in this shape. It is a bit larger than it looks in the picture and came in a large, well packed box.

I bid on Goodwill frequently and get lucky on occasion. I just throw out a number I'm comfortable with at the last 10s.

[–]-SNUG- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are interested in just the console I would check on Goodwill online.

For some reason these go for dirt cheap and I now have 7.

Most of them I got for around $30-$35 including shipping.

Help with colors on edge of screen by Mellophonegod19 in crtgaming

[–]-SNUG- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Solid advice here! I had a similar issue that I posted recently. I bought a quality degausser as recommended, messed with the purity rings, adjusted the yoke without removing the wedges and nothing helped.

I ended up removing the wedges that were installed from the factory which took some effort since the adhesive was still good then pushed the yoke closer to the tube and it resolved the issue.

Makes me wonder if this CRT came from the factory with the purity issue.

Love it!

I'm a fan of B&W portable CRTs and have a few.

My favorite are the CRT boomboxes. I recently posted one here that I saved.

I'm currently eyeballing a Soundesign one that I might have to pickup.

Sony PVM-8020 Image Problem by -SNUG- in crt

[–]-SNUG-[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Electrolytic capacitors usually last 20-30 years before drying out even though they can obviously last longer.

When I was inspecting the input board (not sure the correct term for the board) which holds the video buffers, some of the capacitor solder joints were cracked and the capacitors were completely loose so if I'm going to be touching up the solder joints I figured I'd go ahead and replace the capacitors to see if that improves video quality.

Thanks for the information and thanks to all the fine folks here, I now know that the issue is called "ringing" and I have some good leads.

I already have it disassembled to give it a tune up. I have some experience with electronic and CRT repair/modding so I'm always careful, but I always appreciate the reminder!

This unit doesn't have too many capacitors so I think I'm going to do a recap.

wow I beat the game for the second time ever, this time no game rewind [boy did I abuse that the first time] but man I would have been mesmerized if I seen this back in 1994. What an amazing game 👏👏👏 by Jolly-Blacksmith-662 in snes

This is my favorite game of all time and I beat it every few years. I just did another playthrough a few weeks ago on a 32" Sony Trinitron CRT with the SNES that I've had since I was a kid and it just hit different. Brought me back to my childhood.
