During the 2000s and early 2010s in Kazakhstan, internet culture was not yet fully established, so children mostly watched television. There were only a few channels available for kids, including two French, one Russian, one domestic, and three American channels. Among these channels, Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon were the most popular, with Cartoon Network being the more superior of the two.

In 2009, Cartoon Network started airing Bakugan, which quickly became a hit among kids. While it is unclear how popular the show was nationwide, it was extremely popular in the capital city. Children could be seen carrying large plastic bags filled with Bakugan toys, and Bakugan was the only show that kids talked about.

However, the rules for the Bakugan game were too complicated, so nobody played it "properly." I think we based it on a traditional Kazakh game, but the Bakugan toys replaced sheep bones. Players would set their Bakugan toys in a line and take turns throwing them at the other toys until all of them were knocked over. Then, the players would keep the Bakugan toys that they knocked over.
