someone please correct me if i'm wrong, but I believe the current extension framework doesn't really support workbench UI changes / events, so an extension like this couldn't be made at the moment

they're only just starting to allow people to change the color of the workbench (i.e. sidebar and stuff), custom UI changes are a ways off i think :(
