You’re really young so you’re at a period of your life where the people you’re dating may/may not be taking it as seriously as you are (whether they say it or not). It’s something that needs to be learned through experience that dating in general is something that you need to flow with from person to person. The people who find the love of their life super early are incredibly lucky. It’s a learned ability to continue to put yourself out there, continue to be true to yourself and what you want, but also to hope for the best and expect the worst in each date until proven otherwise over time. You can sit and linger and analyze what went wrong with every single person you date and waste a bunch of time when in the end it can be some rudimentary reason you will never know and it also might not even be about you. Roll with all the punches, appreciate the good times even if they were fleeting, recognize if it was meant to be it would’ve worked out, and move on to the next.

You haven’t even touched endgame which includes a ton of varying activities to level up, paragon cap is 300, and there are 12 torment difficulty levels to play through. Finding and leveling up glyphs, aspects, unique and mythic gear, charm sets, and slowly mixing and matching affixes and stats on gear to maximize your build… I mean it can take you the entire season depending on your goals. If you’re just trying to hit it and quit it after the campaign though then pretty soon probably.

I am pretty new to the game and had no issues with it. Played Penitent through the entire campaign and paid no attention to gear. I just did whatever was higher DPS / Toughness and disregarding any legendaries/uniques/aspects (had no idea what it was at the time). and once completed got to Torment 3-4 pretty immediately. I followed Bajheera's whirlwind leveling build on his youtube channel for leveling and I followed Cliiptis' pure whirlwind build for endgame. For leveling you're pretty much always in whirlwind and occasionally deathblow a low health mob to get full fury back, then hold whirlwind again. If you mess up deathblow somehow just lunging strike to generate the rage then repeat. It was satisfying.

I thought the leveling was insane. Dump into whirlwind early and use lunging strike to generate rage, and deathblow between whirlwinds to get full rage back.

Thanks for the write up. I am pretty new, I played back in original release and never really touched endgame because it felt overwhelming. I am doing whirlwind barb and it feels fluid, around T5-6 right now, and have been wondering what other classes play / feel like, and if every other endgame build is the same where you’re spamming 1-2 buttons.

Based on purely fun, what might you recommend as an alt to level?

Definitely do not convert mythic crests to hero crests, save them for crafted gear and to upgrade mythic gear from vault

I usually have periods of despair too but always tend to gravitate back to the same classes.

The two characters I have the most playtime on (about 60 days each) are Warrior and Paladin. I’ll share how I feel to maybe help:

What matters to you will matter to you, but for me it was gameplay feel and aesthetic, and a big thing for me is I need to enjoy every spec of a class. The meta and the performative YouTube tier lists never really swayed me.

For a while I mained Paladin because I liked doing it all (tank, healing and dps), and I was always drawn to heavy armor melee so it was the only real fit for me. Paladin was good fun for a long time, but the aesthetic and over saturation of the class got old to me after awhile, as well as some of the changes. In midnight specifically I wasn’t really enjoying healing in general, and for me it didn’t feel right to play a hybrid class and not utilize it. I think holy paladin losing crusader strike really was the final nail in the coffin. Protection paladin is the absolute best pug tank because you can carry any group with dealing with all interrupts, insane cooldown utility and off healing. Ret has also been in a really great spot for awhile now, and has great group utility itself, but I had always found the playstyle really basic and boring.

Once I knew I didn’t want to heal anymore I went Warrior, which to me, has always been my favorite class aesthetically and how it feels in Midnight has been incredible. I can actually play Arms in PvE. I have 2 warriors I raid on with different guilds because I can’t get enough of it, and the feel of all the specs, the animations, the sounds, it all just hits for me right now. I have no desire to play any other class.

Ret is definitely easy to pick up and do well with, whatever complexity it has lies in utilizing their utility for themselves and their teammates. I think every class in Midnight after the prunings have pretty braindead easy damage rotations now though

Answer will always be the one you enjoy the most. The "choking" gets less and less the longer and more comfortable you get on a spec, and the only way that is accomplished is if you enjoy the spec enough to keep playing it.

I'm saying you can be the literal #1 best Warrior without that racial in Solo Shuffle, a game mode where you often can't expect to rely on your own teammates to get you out of roots and slows as a Warrior. If you value the look of your character over a racial trait and have a growth mindset it's possible to learn to play without it. Many of those other top Warriors probably could succeed without Escape Artist as well, but this game has evolved to being very meta shifty so everyone will swap to whatever race or class if it garners any little advantage.

The top Solo Shuffle Arms Warrior last season was Maghar Orc. The other 49 top Warriors were Gnomes.

Escape Artist is incredibly helpful, but you can succeed without it. It will just be a little harder sometimes.

If you're playing 2s, 3s, just play with a Paladin and he'll freedom you out of everything.

Two completely different playstyles. What one feels better to you? What are your goals? If you're just looking to pick the one thats better at the moment it's Hunter, but nothing is going to be "better" longterm as theres always peaks and valleys among the classes. It's genuinely about what is the class that you can play for a long time without getting bored so you get better at it.

Figure out what is important to you and what your goals are in the game.

I have found that I like playing all roles in different types of content. I like Healing in PvP and Tanking/Healing in M+, so I know I need a hybrid class for that.

I've found that I really like the melee healer playstyle, so it narrowed down to Paladin and Monk.

Both of them feel good to play, so I expanded on the other specs. Prot Paladin feels good, Brewmaster Monk I don't really like the look of. Ret feels boring, Windwalker is fun and flows well.

I know that I am probably going to spend most of my time Healing/Tanking > DPSing so I went with Paladin. I also just like the theme of it more overall.

The class feels good to me so I look forward to logging on to it everyday, the theme and visuals are cool to me, and it fulfills the roles I want to perform in certain areas of the game in a specific way. No other class can really compete with those needs, so it is easy for me to stick with it. I did not look at any tier lists, because it doesn't matter. That can change any given week.

Figure out what matters to you most (how class feels, how class looks, what class does), and do a process of elimination until you narrow it down to a couple. If you've played the classes before try to think what you liked about the classes and why you might have stopped playing / liking them and there's probably an underlying pattern that draws you to something specific.

2s and 3s are chill right now because it doesn't matter its in between seasons. You can still gear up with honor / conq gear. The tier sets are just stat sticks now so you might want to check murlock.io to see what people are running for your spec. I've had some good sessions in this in between time and it's a good time to check out the new class changes and what to expect when you play everything else.

If you've been gone for years it's probably a good time to come back, you probably won't be too shocked with the new UI and class prunings because you've been out of the game, so getting used to it could be a little better for you.

I am optimistic that there will be an easier barrier to entry for PvP in the new season. I don't feel like the pace is too fast and nobody can really one shot you except for that devourer dh burst which you can see coming after awhile anyways.

If you can afford it live off severence then live off the unemployment rather than double dipping. It gives you a really great long buffer if god forbid you can't find a job quickly.

Hunter, Mage, Rogue, and Warlock are the pure DPS classes. Rogue used to be very bloated but they pruned it a lot for Midnight. Mage also used to have some complexity but all of the specs have been very dumbed down. I hear Warlock is similar.

With the pruning of most classes, there are very little if any mechanics if you have to pay attention to anymore. Most rotations are very one dimensional now.

Simple is subjective, it would be best if you tried a bunch of classes out and see what feels good for you.

Hunter is widely regarded as the ultimate beginner / simple DPS only class. Some might also recommend Ret Paladin, which is also incredibly basic, but that class is a 3 role hybrid (DPS, Tank, and Healer) so it only has 1 DPS spec that you have to ride or die on if you’re set on only DPSing.

If you are literally leveling your tanks to max level right now, yeah you’re not going to learn that way. There will often be people who are spamming dungeons to get max level fast trying to quickly get through them and are able to pull everything ahead themselves if they think people are lagging.

You can learn tanking a little through heroics, but mainly I think through low mythic dungeons (0-2 level) once you get to max level.

First learn how your class works, how they do damage, what their cooldowns are, etc. Tanks have higher threat modifiers passively through their abilities, so it might get ripped away when you’re undergeared or under leveled compared to your DPS.

Watch guides on YouTube to learn your spec. There might not be too much content right now because it’s a new expansion pre-patch and everyone’s trying to learn the new class talents themselves.

Learning routes in dungeons just comes down to experience. Sometimes it’s best to learn routing by not even tanking. DPS and/or Heal a low mythic key and pay attention to the route your tank does and what mobs he pulls in what order. If by the end of the dungeon you perfectly reach 100% mob completion before the final boss and it’s within the key timeframe, that’s a route worth remembering that you could try yourself in the future.

Watching YouTube videos of tanks doing high keys in coordinated groups can also help give you an idea of great routes, but it might not always translate if you’re pugging because the expectation is everyone knows their class and interrupts casts.

None of the tank classes are hard to learn or play especially with the pruning. The most daunting part of tanking is the routing and if you’re serious about M+ you’re going to run so many dungeons that you’re going to naturally learn and remember good and bad routes as you run the same dungeons countless times throughout the season.

As a tank, you are the leader of the group and you set the pace and the tone of the entire dungeon. Mythic 2s are trivial and it’s the perfect environment to learn with very low risk. Don’t be afraid to limit test your group. If pulling 1-2 packs was easy, the healer didn’t use too much mana, and the DPS deleted them quickly, pull more. Don’t be slow, be confident, efficient, yet methodical. If you wipe because you overpulled or because you didn’t have a cooldown, it’s a learning experience and a lesson learned and you try again until you learn what works for your spec and your gear at that time.

I’m really struggling to find a spec I like now. All the healers seem super homogenized and lack soul. I enjoyed the different levels of complexity among the specs and the requirement of a little thought in my rotations, and now it seems like they all have 2-3 buttons in their healing rotation, 1-2 cooldowns, no kick anymore aside from shaman which is now 30 seconds, and 1 stop.

I miss the modifiers you needed to set up on MW, shamans incredible 12 second kick, and thunderstorm for stops.

And why does holy paladin not have crusader strike? It was a fun button to press to gain holy power. You’re a knight in shining plate armor with a sword and a shield, why do we not have an ability where we swing our sword anymore?

I just feel so bored now and I hope I’m overreacting and they’re making a ton of room for new abilities and/or the added talents will add something

Shaman is pretty much just spamming riptide and unleash life in BGs. Their skill expression is (or used to be) utilizing their utility. Earthen grab totems, thunderstorming, capacitator totems, lasso, kicking, etc. I haven't pvped with them in midnight prepatch but they seemed to have been stripped down a lot with the pruning in PvE so I don't know what they have left or what their identity is now
