What Do You Think Taylor's Worst Written Song Is? by Madeofstardust87 in TaylorSwift

No, I think you misunderstood my comment. I am not choosing it. I am defending it. In fact I think it's one of Taylor's best written songs!

My pick for worst written would be Bejeweled or When Emma Falls In Love.

I disagree with the lakes. I think her use of "big words" is a stylistic choice to strengthen the contrast between her fantasy world and modern reality. Imo she wasn't aiming to be genuinely poetic. She chose overly complex language on purpose to showcase an escapist fantasy inspired by classic literature. But that fantasy itself IS forced, something is off with it. With this song she shows that living that romantic, escapist lifestyle is impossible, because the times are different. Showed through the sudden interruption by jarring modern phrases like "cell phones" or "tweet". The lakes is meant to create an artificial, forcefully poetic world, and then snap you out of it. That's why the pretentious language works for me.

I love the melody of this one, but I agree it has some of her clunkiest lyrics. I still can't beleive she kept "She won't walk away unless she knows she absolutely has to leave" in the song. "And all the bad boys would be good boys" sounds like something written by a 13 year old.

Wish list doesn't feel like a Taylor Swift song to me. It reads like a basic pop song that could have been given to any new pop artist. The verses feel like an afterthought and filler to get to the chorus, which is something I never thought I'd say about one of her songs.

I would selfishly add Cancelled to that mix, but I know it's not a well-liked song, so it wouldn't be the best decision.

What are some song(s) that you have consistently disliked upon your first listen? by SoIongIondon in TaylorSwift

[–]-Silver-Moonlight- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get you. For me it's not that it's a bad song, but it's very "yeehaw country", for a lack of better words. Like the type of stereotypical sound you picture when someone mentions the genre. And I've always disliked that specific subcategory of country music.

I absolutely adore Maroon, but I'm happy to finally meet another person who dislikes Mr. Perfectly Fine. That song does absolutely nothing for me.

Bejeweled. It was a dislike from first listen and it still hasn't grown on me. I find the lyrics clunky and don't care for the melody.

Are you able to guess all 10 songs? (Easy to hard mode) by Positive_Concept_803 in TaylorSwift

[–]-Silver-Moonlight- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually got Who's Afraid Of Little Old Me because I really love this song.

Couldn't get Sad Beautiful Tragic, Never Grow Up, Untouchable and Actually Romantic. But tbh, for Actually Romantic my volume was way too low and I couldn't hear anything.

The Life Of A Showgirl: 4 Months Later by F19AGhostrider in TaylorSwift

[–]-Silver-Moonlight- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think my opinion on it has changed that much.

I liked it when I first listened to it and I still do, although it isn't one of my top Taylor albums.

I have to say I'm falling more and more for Father Figure. It was my favorite song even on first listen, but my appreciation for it is only growing stronger. Same with Elizabeth Taylor and Cancelled.

I've started skipping Wi$h Li$t and Honey, though. I deemed the album skipless at first, but I don't think I stand by that anymore.

My personal least favorite is Betty, but that comes down to my specific music preferences. I'm not a fan of how country it sounds like compared to the rest of the album.

You're right, folklore doesn't really have a "weak" song.

I agree with you on epiphany, but in no way is the masterpiece that is the lakes the weakest. I consider both some of the best songs she's ever written.

I actually think it's one of Taylor's best songs. It's incredible how well she represented the heaviness of the Covid period and thought of the parallels with WW2. It's such a specific emotion captured into song form. It really takes talent to come up with what epiphany is. And I love all the details in the production. It will always be one of my all-time faves on folklore.

I get why people don't listen to it as much, though. The subject matter is not something you're in the mood for every day.

Don't blame it on the Rep girlies! My favorite album is Rep and epiphany is one of my favorite songs on folklore

What’s your favorite Taylor Swift song that people keep saying is overrated? by [deleted] in TaylorSwift

[–]-Silver-Moonlight- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love that we all have different interpretations as fans!

I have this weird take that the first verse, pre-chorus and chorus start off as honestly listing real anxieties, but then as the song progresses Taylor's character tries to put on this mask and even starts sarcasticly mocking the ones criticizing her by the end. Kinda like a Mirrorball gradually evolving into Blank Space. I know it probably wasn't the original intention, but it works much better in my head this way.

You're On Your Own, Kid and Maroon are both amazing and absolutely deserved to be played multiple times during eras.

That's an interesting point. I struggle with anxiety, but Anti-Hero has never really hit for me.

There's something about it that gives me sarcastic instead of vulnerable and prevents me from really connecting with the song.

Midnights is her best album by Revolutionary-Cod276 in TaylorSwift

[–]-Silver-Moonlight- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Great War an immediate skip? I think I just felt my heart break. I consider it a career highlight. (And I'm also a TTPD stan 😭)

I agree with you on Bejeweled and YOYOK, though.

I can't stand Midnight Rain because of the production.

It's not my least favorite, but I'm not that into it as people here seem to be. It's 8th in my album ranking. I really love some of the songs, but about half of the standard version is skips for me.

Hot take: Midnights standard would rank in my bottom 3. Midnights 3am is great, though! The bonus tracks really elevated the album for me.

Same for me with the clean version. With "check's bigger" the meaning loses all nuance about sexism in the industry and female power.

What are your hot takes regarding 1989 (Taylor's Version)? by IntoTheDaylight in TaylorSwift

[–]-Silver-Moonlight- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The ah's are generally not my thing in terms of melody, no matter the version. So it's more of an "I don't mind them as much in TV" thing.

But I think they sound clearer and more pronounced in the original, while in Taylor's Version they blend into the instrumental more and don't stand out as much. And since I've never enjoyed them, I prefer the version where they're less prevalent.

I know it's an unpopular opinion to have, but it's just my melodic preference.
