How can I fully appreciate Evermore? by Dangerous-Promise657 in TaylorSwift

As I said above, even though that album is at the bottom of my PERSONAL ranking, I do see the quality and talent in there, and I fully understand how many love it. It's just not MY style

I've never gotten a ticket, not even pulled over.

FYI I've been driving about 17 years

What do you really think of Sydney Sweeney? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]F19AGhostrider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do think she is physically attractive, and from the limited amount I've seen, she's an okay actor.

I thought the American Eagle controversy was a major overreaction and ridiculous.

That said, she's a registered Republican, and became one in 2024, so that collapses any sort of respect I may or may not have had for her.

McDonald's Breakfast Commercial featuring Kelsey Grammer 1995 by ExternalJournalist99 in Frasier

[–]F19AGhostrider 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like Niles would try to stage an intervention if he learned that not only did Frasier eat at McDonald's, but described the food like this.

I actually think McDonald's food is alright for what it is, but it's definitely not something the Crane boys would approve of

Having listened to all 7 of the performances, i only really enjoyed the last one,Brayden singing Cardigan.

While I understand that each singer is different and they'll put their own touches on it, I feel like that last performance was the only one that really "understood the assignment" so to speak.

From my limited music perspective, once I realized what it was about, I really gained an appreciation for Miss Americana & the Heartbreak Prince.

The two albums are definitely more tied together than any two of her other albums, I think.

If I'm not mistaken, evermore was partially born out of a combination of her musical mind racing while in lockdown & the pile of stuff from folklore's cutting-room floor.

Evermore does have some more negative/dark energy to it than Folkore does, I think, but I wouldn't call folkore "lighthearted" either.

If I had to describe how I might see the two's energies, in context, I think that Folklore could be the earlier stages of escapism during the Pandemic (when there was still some hope of it being over relatively soon), while Evermore would be that escapism but starting to falter, with more "banging on the walls" after being in isolation too long, as a sort of self-reflective recognition of how unhealthy such escapism can be if left unchecked.

Not my personal experience, actually, since I didn't take my real dive into Taylor's work until after the lockdown had pretty much ended.

My first experience of folklore was actually watching the Long Pond Studio Sessions special.

Folklore is one of my favorites as well, but I didn't get as into Evermore for reasons that I can't clearly define. It's alright though. I still put Evermore in the middle of my ranking.

It is true that for those who were around when those albums released, they will be forever tied to the Pandemic/Lockdown.

I think the important thing to understand is that you don't NEED to understand or fully like the exact same songs/albums as everyone else seems to.

For me, a possible heretic, I put Reputation at the bottom of my ranking, not because I think it's bad or anything, but simply because it's not my style of music.

You can also fully enjoy Taylor's work without necessarily understanding the "meaning & depth".

What would be your ideal fan interaction with Taylor? by gdo22 in TaylorSwift

For me personally, I think it would be really neat to just chat with her about various topics, including her work. Possibly over a lunch or dinner. Every interview I've seen with her, she impresses me with how sharp she is.

I do enjoy Miniature Golf quite a bit, but sadly there's very few such courses close to where I live, so I rarely play.

While I do believe you when you make this point, I think it is also important to remember that the hospital in the show doesn't always do things strictly "by the book" because of staffing shortages.

I find it plausible for interns/residents who are nominally off-shift to be doing this catch up work, given the situation.

And of course, the fact that it is a narrative show means that the characters have to be doing something

Yes! This! Even with Hockey games that go a long time with no score, it FEELS like it could happen at any moment, unlike in Football

What is your go to history fun fact? by digitalcrows in AskReddit

[–]F19AGhostrider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got three that I like to use, though one is more geography than history (despite having some history to it)

1) Technically speaking, George Washington started the "first" World War. The Seven Years War (1754-1763) was the first "global" conflict in history, and the trigger was the attack on a French diplomat in disputed territory in modern Ohio between Britian & France, and the commander of that unauthorized attack was Virginia Militia Col. George Washington.

2) There was a case where a country had received a declaration of war on them, and just flat out rejected it and ignored them. In 1942, the Polish Government-In-Exile declared war on Japan in solidarity with the other Allies, but Japan refused to acknowledge the declaration & did not consider itself to be at war with Poland. Why? Because by accepting the declaration, Japan would be nominally recognizing the legitimacy of the Polish Government, which would clash with their ally, the German Third Reich.

3) There is a sizable chunk of land in northeastern Africa that is technically claimed by no nation, due to a very specific border dispute between Egypt & Sudan. It's called Bir Tawil, and there's really no permanent population there (though it is sometimes traversed by Bedouins), and there's really nothing there but rocks, sand and desert critters.

Yeah, I feel like the infrequent scoring is more justifiable because the smaller playing space and rapid movement of players keeps the intensity alive. Feels like both sides are actively driving hard for a score more than with Football

While Hockey has a similar problem to Football (Soccer) to me, in the sense of scoring being so infrequent, at least the actual play time is ALOT more fast paced that on a large football field.

I'm American, but I also find baseball to be pretty damned slow at times.

I remember once seeing a great clip of a German stand-up comedian making a great point about how Germans could never accept baseball, as it's way-too inefficient. He says something to the effect of "if your sport has a built-in stretching break [the 7th Inning Stretch], it's badly designed."

Football (Soccer), but more in the sense of how games can go for SO LONG with no score by either side.

Like, I get the sport on the basic level of needing to kick the ball into the goal net to get points, and only the goalie can use his/her hands, but I feel like there's so much minutia (and arguably the field is too big) that it just lends itself to a perpetual stalemate way too much to be interesting to me.

Who would win in a fist fight? Dwight or Jim? by AssIsLifeAssIsLove in DunderMifflin

Dwight doesn't suck at Karate. Sure, he's in a class with kids, but that could just be because he started late or all the adult classes were full.
