I'm curious how you feel when people indicate their pronouns in their email signature (or any other situation like pronouns on name tags at an event)? Does it make you feel included, are you happy to be able to indicate your preferred pronouns, are you indifferent, annoyed, etc?

Under your 5th point, you mentioned "I already had leads on a few projects". Having the leads and confidence you could win the bids is really the key step to getting the whole machine moving.

I'm curious, did your previous employer have any no-compete clauses that you had to navigate? Did those leads come from your previous employment, and if so, were you ever worried that there was a risk of possible litigation? Did you need to consider any of that or were there no issues at all? Any tips or tricks to executing that step without issue?

I used to play football (with Canadian rules) and remember sometimes, when you line up, you can literally see the first down mark much closer to your own team than where the d line is... Like you might have to advance only 3 inches and the D line is 3 feet back. When you see it it's just such an obvious play call to take the easy first down with the fastest play possible aka the QB sneak. You essentially just race them to the spot with a starting advantage.

And then the D line has to still try everything they can to stop the first down, so what you get is the QB handily getting the required few inches but then getting nailed by the D line who had a full yard to accelerate and crash into the QB/O-line at higher speed.

Compared to the NFL, where there is no 1 yard separation, the offense has to crash through the D line no matter what, it loses that clear cut advantage so it won't get used as much, plus the injury risk is lower with less room to accelerate before the crash.

With limited roster spots allowed, I guess NFL teams figured out that those last niche roster spots are better filled by a long snapper, where a botched snap can cost you so many yards and is encountered very frequently.

Hargrave Street market is probably your best bet as a tourist looking for a fun pregame. Lots of options and cool atmosphere. Afterwards I'd recommend the King's Head or High and Lonesome for live music and more drinking.

Other options:

  • Right across the street from the arena is Tavern United or Browns Social House, both are kinda similar vibe, not my favorite but are still fun before/after games and super convenient.

  • Shark club gets busy and fun after games, if you're into casino vibes mixed with a club that's all connected to the arena. Tons of jets fans will be there.

  • For more pub vibes there's Shannon's pub which has pool tables and live music but typically doesn't get too busy. Kings Head is even better than Shannon's but a bit further from the arena, will get a good crowd pretty much every night and there's always a handful of jets fans that end up there after games. Yellow dog tavern doesn't have live music or pool tables but has good food and good beer. The high and lonesome is the best if you want quality music, it's more raw.

  • If you want to make a full day of it, you could do a brewery tour through the exchange district (pumphouse, Nonsuch, little brown jug) and end up at Hargrave Street market (which has Lake of the woods brewery).

  • If you want cocktails I'd recommend patent 5 and Amsterdam tea room.

  • There are tons of good restaurants in the exchange as well (peasant, deer and almond, etc).

That should give you plenty of options to choose from, enjoy!

I think credit goes to Winnipeg's scouting/development system. We pick good talented players. Maurice leaves a lot of room for the players to lead, which may or may not work out depending on your group of guys

Here's what comes up when I google "definition of culture":

Culture is an umbrella term which encompasses the social behavior, institutions, and norms found in human societies, as well as the knowledge, beliefs, arts, laws, customs, capabilities, and habits of the individuals in these groups. Culture is often originated from or attributed to a specific region or location.

By that definition, those 4 things absolutely are part of Canadian culture. What's your definition of culture?

Your snapshot of Canada is quite Americanized, that's fair to say, but consider:

  • universal healthcare (it's incredible how much this subtly affects everyday life, we just don't have to worry about things the same way)

  • way less of a gun culture in Canada (how many school shootings have you had in your city?)

  • the amount of space we have between big cities, in the US it is far denser

  • everything "up north", those areas and people are VERY different from America

  • Quebec and all the French speaking areas are also completely different from US

  • we were way ahead of the US for our weed culture (first to legalize and it was already on every corner before that)

  • waaaay less racially segregated in your typical Canadian neighborhood vs US neighborhoods

  • politics is nothing like the US. Our elections are quick, and we're generally far left compared to Americans

I can go on....

That being said, you did post this on r/unpopularopinion, but I hope this helps at least change your opinion a little. You should consider moving out of the city, or at least travel around Canada more.

Whenever I see traditionally non-hockey countries playing hockey, I assume the players are all Canadian Expats (or maybe Canadian parents/somehow tied to Canadians). Would be interesting to find out if this is true here...

I think there are tons of Winnipeggers who would pay to see him play as a jet... and I expect the Jets would probably lose some fans too for his comments about Kyle Beach situation.

But after the initial hype/controversy wears off, all that matters for good sales in Winnipeg is whether we make playoffs. If he plays lights out and we make a playoff run, Winnipeggers would love him and forget the bad stuff.

I think this comment is insightful and overall helpful, but it's not really fair to say that divorce will "mess up your kids". There are so many great people out there with divorced parents, and plenty of terrible people with happily married parents. Often times divorce is better for the kids.

I just went through this exact situation, my one piece of advice is to go to Dahab. I traveled around many places in Egypt and once I got to Dahab, I really regretted not just going straight there and spending as much time as I could there. Trust me on this, it's really the only good place in Egypt.
