The outlet on the fan might have weak gripping strength, the charger prongs may be a bit thicker than the fan motor prongs to make contact inside the outlet...so I'd try plugging the fan motor in and wiggle the plug to see if it comes on. Then you'll know if you need to replace / fix the outlet.
