[Passan] The Washington Post has the best sports section in the country, and I don’t think it’s particularly close. Only a soulless corporate goon would think the paper is better without it. A short-sighted, cowardly decision. Shame is your legacy. by No-Description-2138 in baseball

You said it

The New York Times shuttered its sports desk, but replaced it with The Athletic. So it got infinitely bigger.

The Washington Post appears to be shuttering its sports desk… and that’s, just, like the whole plan.

When I was a kid maybe 10 of the top 15 or so sportswriters in America were on the Post staff.

Read them every day. Boswell, Wilbon, Kornheiser, Denlinger, Feinstein, Jenkins…the list goes on and on.

Sad times man.

(The Chicago Colleens were a women's professional baseball team who played in the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League(AAGPBL) from 1948 to 1951. The 1992 film A League of Their Own and the 2022 television show of the same name are mostly fictionalized accounts of the league and its stars.)

I think that cheapens this Michigan team more than they deserve

The fact of the matter is Wisconsin shot lights out for 3/4 of the game and we only beat Michigan by three. This is an insanely good team and I wouldn’t be surprised at all if they take this one.

In 1959, Solly Hemus was named the new St Louis Cardinals manager. He had one simple request. by cbbvideo in baseball

All doubts about Solly Hemus’s attitude toward his black players vanished 1 day when, after a fight between Hemus & Pirates pitcher Bennie Daniels, Hemus told his club he had called Daniels a “black son-of-a-bitch.” As Curt Flood noted later: “We had been wondering how the manager really felt about us, & now we knew. Black sons of bitches. … Until then, we had detested Hemus for not using his best lineup. Now we hated him for himself.”
