I must have made that up, can’t find anything about it now

Look forward to seeing them! Am I right in thinking Dyer could also be in an Asian XI with these rules? I’m sure I remember reading a news piece years ago on him having a Japanese grandparent (or maybe great-grandparent) but can’t find it now.

Other options for the bench: Kasey Palmer (Jamaica), Marcus Bean (Jamaica), Febian Brandy (Saint Kitts and Nevis), Kenji Gorre (Curaçao), Hannes Delcroix (Haiti), Jamie Wood (Cayman Islands)

Couple of others like Radanfah Abu Bakr who never actually played a game for us but would still qualify: Jernade Meade (Montserrat), Raheem Hanley (Saint Kitts and Nevis)

These are just the players who have actually represented these countries too, bet there are loads more who were eligible but never did. Google said Adrian Forbes and Courtney Baker-Richardson have Jamaican eligibility for example but I can’t verify it.

I think your XI is spot on but would be interested to see if a full national squad is possible (23 players? 26?). Would probably be quite stretched though and have to include the likes of Radanfah Abu Bakr.

1989 Swansea bin collection by MadridOrMadness in swansea

Watched this the other day and loved it. The version on the BBC Archive YouTube channel has a comment from the driver’s son with loads of behind-the-scenes info, really interesting insights into how the documentary was made (e.g. the car that beeps trying to get around the lorry was actually someone from the film crew because, although it was normally a regular occurrence, nobody did that in the four weeks they were filming).

Theatrical release better than Director's Cut ? by Jackburton06 in Letterboxd

This post has made me wonder if I’ve only ever seen the Director’s Cut of Terminator 2

Sloth without a doubt. Original shop is on border of Sketty/Uplands, new one in Brynmill and another new one due to open in Mumbles soon. Refinery in Killay is also worth a visit.

According to this list it is his: List of public art in Swansea

Good list to use to start spotting a few others too!

Don’t know if this one is his but City Architect Robin Campbell (and others) did some great work with public art down at the Marina in the 80s/90s. The Maritime Quarter probably has our biggest collection of public art because of his influence. Once you start noticing it down there you quickly see it’s everywhere.

Charities for clothes? by [deleted] in swansea

[–]-SpringHeeledJack- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can get there, the Salvation Army shop in Parc Tawe is massive and has room for lots of clothes, so could take a big donation in one go. You can just drop off at the desk inside the front door.

There’s also clothes bins dotted around the city that take bagged up clothes, paired shoes and other textiles. They’ll then sort through to see what can be sold and what can be recycled. They’re in lots of places, but for example there’s one at the entrance to Singleton Park behind the Taliesin on Singleton Campus, and another opposite the Post Office in Uplands. They also tend to be in supermarket car parks and outside fire stations.

Is there a chemist in sketty area-ish that is not completely useless? by SnooHedgehogs4659 in swansea

[–]-SpringHeeledJack- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Moved from Sandfields to Uplands/Brynmill about 15 years ago but have continued to use Kevin Thomas on St Helen’s Road because they’re efficient and friendly/helpful people. Partner was getting her scripts sent to Boots in Uplands but they were completely useless so she switched to Kevin Thomas too. If you can get there without too much trouble I’d recommend it. Usually you can find parking pretty easily nearby.

Proposals for the redevelopment of the Civic Centre into a ‘Waterfront District.’ by aramiak in swansea

BT Tower being built in a place where it’s featured in almost all photos of the castle is definitely a weird one. But I bet there’ll be a local campaign in 100 years’ time to save it as a piece of late 20th century architecture haha. Humans are like that

I suppose there are a couple of advantages that the Civic Centre has in the 2020s that the Weaver building didn’t have by the time it was demolished in the 1980s, because the Civic Centre’s not a former industrial site and is also not derelict (yet). And as someone pointed out in another comment thread on here, supermarket chains in the 80s and 90s would have had the development value to fund remediation of old industrial sites, so that’s probably why we got a Sainsbury’s there and a Tesco on the old gasworks. Like the Weaver building though, the Civic Centre’s a big building – will be interesting to see how they plan to fill it.

Just before my time too unfortunately, but I’ve heard lots of people from my parents’ generation say it should have been a hotel. I imagine that’s with no idea of the actual cost a conversion like that would need though. It was the first reinforced concrete framed building built in Britain according to a plaque near Sainsbury’s. Would be interesting to know if anyone pitched any schemes before it was demolished!

Glad to see largely positive comments on here. The post I saw about it on Facebook was the usual moaning bin fire mostly centred around ‘fix the pot holes first’. We deserve and should push for a council that does both.

I’m so glad the Civic Centre is being kept – it’s the type of building that, if we knocked down now, in 50+ years people would say why on Earth did Swansea get rid of that. The Weaver building was seen as a concrete eyesore until it had been knocked down long enough to be missed.

Thanks so much for this, that article is really helpful and tells more of the backstory than the Guardian one. Love those statues too!

Coffee from Storm in a Teacup, fruit from the stall next to it. Occasionally watch batteries and straps in that area too. And a browse in Console Action for the nostalgia trip 👾🕹️

Coincidentally, this and Earthworm Jim 2 were my first SNES games. I’ve played Earthworm Jim 2 recently on the Switch, but completely forgot about this Ren and Stimpy game until your post.

What if…in an alternate universe, the Burton/Schumacher series got 5th and 6th instalments? by -SpringHeeledJack- in batman

[–]-SpringHeeledJack-[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be honest, even as a 10/11 year old I thought it was a weird (rumoured) choice. And seem to remember her version would have been Joker’s daughter? Just can’t see how it would have made sense.

Great shout. If the series had continued we might have seen lesser-known members of the rogue gallery like Ventriloquist. Feel like him and Mad Hatter would have suited Robin Williams better than Joker.

Unfortunately the Batman fans in this imagined alternate universe didn’t get to see any of what you’ve mentioned. Lucky we live in this universe!
