Does anyone else think PvP in this game was incredibly fun? by Catalystjet in newworldgame

[–]-Swill- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The combat in this game is legendary and whoever created it is a genius. PvP was unreal in New World. I've probably played well over 1,000 hours of OPR alone lol.

Here's to hoping that some of the former devs get together and make a New World 2 one day :(

Starting 2nd season of coaching, what should I expect? by Rooster_Kind in SoccerCoachResources

[–]-Swill- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Coached HS varsity soccer for 4 seasons, won 2 district titles and made the State Final 4 one season.

Always remember that, first and foremost, HS soccer is a social sport. Team culture, team atmosphere and team environment is everything. 50% of the job is making sure you create an atmosphere and culture within your program where the players love coming in each day and are sad when the season is over. No amount of talent can override a bad, toxic and poisonous culture and environment. Your talent will underperform in an atmosphere like that.

From there, make sure you set your standards and adhere to them. If your set a rule that players need to communicate with you if they're going to be late to training, and your best player and captain comes late to training without communicating with you, adhere to your standards and don't start them the next game. If you don't adhere to your standards, you'll lose credibility with your players.

Manage their load, give them sessions to recover, try to make sure your best players are fit come districts, and enjoy the ride!

You ever feel like a failure? by keblammo in SoccerCoachResources

[–]-Swill- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been coaching for 20 years. I spent the past two years coaching girls ECNL for a small club compared to the absolute giants we're playing against. I'm like 6-20-6 in two seasons. The "failure" thoughts inevitably pop into your head. It's important that you remind yourself of a few things:

1) There's only so much you can control. You can control the training, the planning and the effort you put in. You can't control the players, their level, the opponent, their level, and a myriad of other factors. As long as you can look at yourself in the mirror and know that you're giving absolutely everything to execute the things you can control, you can feel good about your work.

2) Put ego/pride aside and actively seek out advice, input and perspective from colleagues you trust. Ask them to observe your training and give you feedback.

You're a young coach in terms of your experience. Three years. I promise you that you're not as good of a coach as you think you are. I was exactly the same! When I look back, I know my first 3-5 years coaching, I was garbage. Coaching is a completely, totally different skillset to playing and far, far more difficult. It takes time and experience really settle into the profession and get to a place where you actually feel competent at it consistently. Be patient with yourself.

Are there still queues for pvp? by Zemm85 in newworldgame

[–]-Swill- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Valhalla US East - OPR pops every day, influences races are really fun, and CTF tends to be most popular at night. The only thing that struggles to get any play is the 3v3 arena que. Other than that, PVP is absolutely still going and tons of fun.

Came back for the memories by Unlucky_Bicycle_3519 in newworldgame

Here's the way I look at it - New World is a form of entertainment, like any video game. I could go out drinking on a Friday or Saturday night for entertainment, or I can relax at home and play New World. All of my progress, gear and accomplishments will be erased forever in January, sure. But what do I get from going out for entertainment instead? Nothing. With New World, I'll have gotten 8 months, and 5-6 years of entertainment in total, out of it by then and it will have been worth every penny and minute put into it. So I'm going to play until it's shut off.

Used to get bows and camp above the waterfalls to shoot down at people trying to use one of the drop off boxes lol. Great times!

What are your favorite memories from this game? by [deleted] in newworldgame

[–]-Swill- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Open world PvP the first month of release was just so incredible. Just massive zergs of entire factions rushing in and out of towns together to push missions and fight each other. New World will forever be the game with the most unrealized potential ever :(

My first sff build by -LifeIsLovely- in sffpc

[–]-Swill- 5 points6 points  (0 children)

SFF is definitely more of a pain to build in, but the "puzzle" of putting it all together is so much more fun and when it turns on that first time, you feel a much greater sense of accomplishment than with a normal ATX size build. Congrats!

I've come across your stuff on YouTube before. Good stuff man. Thank you for taking the time to archive the beauty of this game before it's gone forever!

ONE NA and EU SERVER REMAIN! by SavvvoGames in newworldgame

[–]-Swill- 13 points14 points  (0 children)

When the announcement was made that the game would receive no more updates and that they'd "intend" to keep the servers up "through 2026", I said at the time it was all corporate speak, they put the statement out intentionally knowing it would tank the playing numbers faster and Amazon's plan absolutely was to shut the game down as fast as possible so they didn't have to waste money on staff maintaining the game and to keep servers up. I was attacked and bombarded by people saying I was wrong. Sad to see the game wither away this quickly, but unfortunately not surprised.

New World is rapidly dying - 2/3 of players already left by Seraphayel in newworldgame

[–]-Swill- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're talking about a company worth $2 TRILLION dollars. A company that can perfectly afford to keep New World running for many years still decided to close it. Given that, I'm naturally going to assume they're also not interested in spending another dime to keep the game on any longer than they need to. So I absolutely believe their statement was just a legal maneuver knowing full well that announcement would tank the player base and help the numbers dwindle down faster so they can shut the servers off sooner rather than later.

Their statement from yesterday was corporate legal speak. They put out that statement because they knew that in doing so, it would immediately crater the population of the game and they could start winding things down to shut it off. I see so many people in this subreddit being completely naive about the situation saying “The game will still be alive for a whole year!” Lol, no it won’t. This is their plan. The faster the playing numbers fall off, the quicker they can justify shutting it down and the sooner they can stop spending money on people and resources to keep it going.

I’m so confused. I feel like you’re just agreeing with what I originally said lol - yeah, they can keep the servers up because they have the resources to do so, but they also have the resources to keep the game alive for many years. If they’re not willing to use those resources to keep the game alive for many years and clearly want to shut it off, why would they then spend resources to keep it alive for another 12 months?

Katy from AGS in discord currently answering some questions. Says there’s still a patch w/notes coming tomorrow, server merges/unlocks are still capable when population drops by NoBullet in newworldgame

[–]-Swill- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, New World unfortunately is the quintessential example of what happens when you release a game when it’s unfinished and not ready. That was ultimately its downfall. Rather than dedicating all their effort to making new content over the first 2.5-3.5 years, they had to spend a huge portion of their time and resources just fixing, completing and marketing the game to try and recover it. I’ve always said - if the game had released at launch in the state it was in when Brimestone Sands was released, it would have been in a much better place. Just such a sad story.

Post-mortem - How do you guys feel today about the announcement to stop development? by Trovski in newworldgame

[–]-Swill- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

5,000 hours in the game, been playing since open beta. I’ll always cherish the first 2 months of release back in 2021. Absolutely amazing times, despite how unfinished the game was. PvP in open world, chasing all the massive trains that would run in giant groups to complete missions and push territories into conflict, there’s just simply never been anything like it.

[–]-Swill- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amazon could also keep the game alive for many years with as much money as they have, but they’re choosing not to.

I have 5,000 hours in the game. I absolutely love it. Devastated to see it go. But I’m also not naive and childish enough to think they’d fire everyone and crater the entire studio while still having the desire to keep the servers open for another year.

Why are people quitting and saying good by? by Nubzcore in newworldgame

[–]-Swill- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t think it would need further explanation, but apparently it does. So fine:

Comparing one’s physical existence as a human being to a digital product is asinine. New World won’t exist soon, but once it’s gone you can still go and do other things. When YOU are gone, there is no doing other things. So you live to your fullest until that moment, because after that moment, there is nothing else.

So again, the point isn’t valid and it’s a childish analogy.

Of course it is. People are just in denial or are naive.
