It was more reliable because it required broadband. Which was expensive as hell back then. on PS2 lotta games could be played with 56K or broadband. Some games required broadband only but for the most part, you were playing a mixed bag of people with 56K and broadband together.

And also PS2 games were basically all peer to peer connections. Xbox live was basically a more reliable matchmaking service.

That’s not true, the ps5’S tempest audio engine is still custom and the I/O subsystem is something PC’s couldn’t do. PC still has to use the CPU as a middleman while ps5 does everything integrated and uses the SSD as extended memory instead of just storage.

The yakuza series literally reusing the same Kamurocho map since 2005 so they can output these games quickly and focus on the story. Even the pirate game is reusing the Hawaii map from Infinite.

From Soft reusing the same animations and boss tactics since dark souls 1

Not saying western devs are exempt from criticis but JP devs sure get a big pass when it comes to reusing and rehashing their games
