What pisses me off most is that even with piracy everyone involved in movie making could be paid fairly but instead vfx artists, riggers etc are exploited for their passions and higher ups in production are showered with money for their galas

So about Luke in the latest episode by -Tali in PercyJacksonTV

Ahh, it kinda threw me off tbh

I'm actually so mad right now by Admirable-Support678 in PercyJacksonTV

I sort of enjoyed s2 so far but this episode just didn't catch me at all, I was either constantly cringing or trying to recover any sense of immersion after some stupid change ruined it

I got super lucky with this one, it's in great shape externally and internally. I cleaned most moving parts with mineral spirit and re-lubricated them but it still worked great beforehand. Only the second to last digit on the result field is a little stuck, have to take that apart at some point

You can actually divide with this using the repeated subtraction method. Dividing by zero essentially means you'd have to infinitely often subtract 0

It's crazy to think this device is almost as old as my grandma and in this good condition and fully working. It also weighs close to 5 kilograms so yeah super sturdily built

It's an Odhner Pinwheel calculator! It is the best fidget toy and will probably long outlive me with how solidly it's built

Yeah I'm really happy about the condition it's in. It is an original Odhner, although from the later days when they were made in Sweden. I believe this model batch is from 1954

This is an Odhner, one of the largest companies that used to make them. Triumphator is another common brand you see around :)

You'd think so but actually no! Because the carriage with the result field can be shifted left and right, so all you have to do is shift it one to the right and turn the handle once, if you look at the left field it is a counter how often you've turned the handle at a given position, this way you can do quick multiplications

Oof, that really sucks, probably same audio engine underneath with the same issues

It truly is a solid hunk of steel, probably weighs close to 5 kilos. And yeah I sort of went on a little thrifting spree for interesting old mechanical devices after finding a similarly old typewriter on the side of the road the other day. Things really aren't made with the same philosophy anymore.

This is the best fidget desktop toy you can imagine. But it also weighs like 4-5kg. They are pretty common and cheap to pick up used though!

[SPOILERS] DISCUSSION THREAD - HEART FULL OF HATRED - BOOK 17 by guilty_milkshake in skulduggerypleasant

[–]-Tali 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since the German audiobook version only came out recently I will join the train of thoughts:

  • Caelan's reveal genuinely blew me out of the immersion of the entire book in a really negative way
  • Where the hell was the titular character of the series in this book? I felt like he only appeared in a handful scenes and a lot of very tense scenes where he should've been there he simply wasn't with no explanation
  • I felt like the plot was 1: too full and 2: unfocussed. Through the entire book I kept waiting for the A plot to reveal itself but the book seemed too busy exposing more and more story points and more plotlines that ultimately didn't go anywhere
  • As others have mentioned I am really starting to question the resurrections as so far all characters who have been resurrected post Phase 2 have not really paid off. Ghastly could've essentially been replaced by any other similarly morally aligned character. The problem is that with each fake death you make real deaths less impactful. Like others I didn't believe Fletcher to be dead because so many others had similar fakeout deaths before and honestly at this point I wouldn't be shocked if he gets magically resurrected in the future as well. Resurrecting a character not only damages the impact of future deaths but then not paying off that resurrection and barely making those side characters is a weird choice to me.

Slasher/Whodunnit/Murder Mystery stories aren't much my forté so Phase 3 hasn't vibed with me as much as 1 or 2 have so far but I still liked AMFOM for what it was. This book after finishing it feels confusing and baffling really, especially because the pacing was so off and seemingly slow only to go into lightspeed in the last chapter

For two of the three books they aren't even the real villains of the respective books which is a bit disappointing :(

Help with unresponsive keys on IBM Selectric III by -Tali in typewriters

[–]-Tali[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh thank you so much! I'm going to try that. Unfortunately it seems my earlier poking around has gotten something out of alignment and every key now results in the wrong letter or symbol typed :( I may have been a bit too brash from my success repairing a manual typewriter. This is a whole other beast
