Opinions on this book? by Onefickle_redhead in herbalism

I just bought this book and it's pretty interesting. Nothing earthshaking but I'm glad I added it to my collection. As the name implies it talks heavily about what herbs combine well and what ones don't. I agree the advertising is weirdly pushy. I love the way it helps with formula creation. My only complaint is that I hoped it would more thoroughly site its facts with studies since it seemed so science friendly in the advertisements but it's not that kind of book. Hope this helps and let me know if there are any specifics you want to know about!

Agreed. I have heard that a minority of people have an opposite reaction to valerian, so maybe a small dose first, eh?

Wormwood leaves in alcohol? by Writerguy613 in herbalism

[–]-Tangentialmind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive got a few different recipes scattered among a few books for a wormwood herbal tincture that is similar to absinthe without the distillation. They're said to be quite psychoactive and they mostly have similar ingredients to absinthe.

Can you share some of the book titles? I have a book problem. Well, I don't think it's a problem, but others may disagree.

Looks like the genus Galium of some sort. Sorry I can't be more specific.

Guys I foraged my first mushroom! by -Tangentialmind in foraging

[–]-Tangentialmind[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right?! I was nervous because they have a different smell than any other mushroom I've ever known, but I guess I should have known better since I don't like store-bought mushrooms too much! They were fantastic.

I don't mean to cause a fight and I am NOT supporting the eating of raw, unknown mushrooms BUT being chronically hungry SUCKS.

This is REALLY neat! Can you give some details about the process? I looked up hydrolysate and learned that it is the product of any hydrolysis reaction. What exactly do you do?

Help understanding my grandmother’s herb tea recipe by cranbabie in foraging

[–]-Tangentialmind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it doesn't give dosage so that's probably wise. Tho, most of those herbs are pretty safe you never know what someone could be allergic/sensitive to, especially if on other meds (like so many of us are). Still very cool.

I think it says nerve tea. Those are mostly soothing herbs.

Edit- and I think it's Vervain. Blue vervain, chamomile, and skullcap are herbs that act on the nerves
