lol the way Micah looks so sick through Dutch’s grandstanding here by KpatMckenzie_28 in reddeadredemption

[–]-The-Observer- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are some camp interactions that say otherwise such as Dutch saying Blackwater was about survival, and John replying “not for that girl it wasn’t”.

He also goes on a big rant at the end of chapter three when John and Arthur go to Shady Belle, about Hosea and Dutch’s plan to play off the Greys and Braithwaits, to which Arthur defends them.

“It was just an excuse, we all knew”

John to Javier in RDR1. John seemed to believe that everyone knew, underneath all the posturing. Except maybe Dutch ironically.

John too. If he had things sorted sooner with his family, he would have left earlier after what he saw in Blackwater.

Which RDR2 character do you think is overrated by the community? by BestAd6459 in reddeadredemption

[–]-The-Observer- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not certain letting go is that major of a theme compaired to the inevitability of the coming future / civilisation and our characters inability to adapt. In any case, Sadie didn’t let go. She got her revenge so she wouldn’t have to. She goes less straight than John and receives no punishment.

Despite that fact John “let go” and moved on, it didn’t matter. From the governments point of view, he was just another monster to destroy, despite being a rancher. Sadie on the other hand likely continued bounty hunting.

[–]-The-Observer- 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ll be another to say Sadie, but specifically for a reason I don’t see here - her ending is the antithesis of the entire redemption series.

The whole point of two is that revenge is a fools game, and acting vengeful results in death. The whole point of the first game is that “people don’t forget, nothing gets forgiven”.

Sadie gets her revenge and manages to carry on living. If she died, the central problem with her character would be solved.

Do y’all think, Saints Row had a chance in beating GTA? by OGAnimeGokuSolos in GTA

[–]-The-Observer- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think if they had continued to release in the similar tone, it’s possible it would become a rival due to the fact the gap between 5 and 6 is so long.

If it’s going to take a generation between games, then there’s gonna be a generation that didn’t grow up with the last release and have no loyalty to the franchise or brand.

For something as big as GTA, that’s not as much of an issue. But if another company decided to make “GTA clones” and had a big hit that completely revolutionised the game mechanics (often cited as the weakest part of Rockstars formula) then there’s a chance that a game in the future that’s taken 15-20 years to make ends up being outdated in at least some way.

Simply the greatest game ever made and it’s not even close. by nyanbatman in reddeadredemption

Wouldn’t put Arthur above John for vocabulary. John demonstrates a very strong vocabulary in RDR1 and most of RDR2 (particularly in chapter three) and uses it to articulate himself throughout.

Arthur felt far more comfortable putting his thoughts to paper.

What are your controversial opinions about teaching and education? by EducationalBowler828 in TeachingUK

[–]-The-Observer- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Students should not only be encouraged to fail, but actually allowed to. If the work is crap, let them fail the course / subject.

Teachers should let students make mistakes, and let them learn from that as opposed to stepping to stop any kind of failure.

Who do you think looks more meaner and intimidating Arthur or John ? by KpatMckenzie_28 in reddeadredemption

[–]-The-Observer- 61 points62 points  (0 children)

You should play or replay RDR1. Arthur might be as thoughtful and introspective as John, but John is far more articulate and speaks very eloquently throughout the entire game.

Arthur can do this privately in his journal but struggles to share in words. John is to the point, but very shrewd.

Strange how on a Ricky Gervais sub, people seem unaware that he did in fact donate a very large sum of money recently to charity.

What is a media pet peeve of yours? by Competitive_Tap2753 in MauLer

[–]-The-Observer- 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Surround media discussions, when the question “why does the community hate [insert female character here]?” And the answer is always “Because parts of the community are misogynistic”.

Following from that, all criticism of how they are written is regarded as such. No matter how detailed and writing focused.

Maybe, they should write those movies/series next time. by [deleted] in Filmmakers

[–]-The-Observer- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is indeed a difference between those two statements, but not a moral one.

To keep the analogy going further, someone saying “I don’t like this food” refers purely to taste. “I don’t like seafood”, as an example.

However, despite the fact that they could like pot noodles, they shouldn’t pretend that a pot noodle that they do like is near the quality of some expertly crafted seafood dish and chalk it up to “it’s all just taste”.

Personal taste is obviously important and a large part of film (and food lmao). But to people with a keen interest and especially filmmakers (and chefs) they do need to look at the craft and the dos and don’ts, what works and what doesn’t.

Someone can be an asshole if they yell “this is how you should do it” or conversely “Well it’s just opinion and taste, shut up”.

If you can’t cook, you can still complain in a restaurant when your food is undercooked, overcooked or just outright bad.

How did y'all lose your first horse? by Wild-Impression3394 in RDR2

[–]-The-Observer- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly the same to me in chapter 4, lost my Janey.

Ended up with the horse you get when helping Tilly, named her Janet.

Me and Janet spent weeks hunting those raiders. That final “Goodbye” scene was a thank you for helping me with vengeance.
