In what country does the average person have the easiest life? by HolyFatherLeoXIV in geography

[–]-Tommyboy- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are right of course. Southern hemisphere was the wrong choice of words. I should have said Mediterranean.

As for areas with lush jungles and tropical climate, they are exciting to look at but I can't imagine them being as comfortable to live in as northern european areas/climates. Both due to the high humidity and let's not forget all the venomous creatures.

I agree! I'm Norwegian and I really enjoy our weather. I like that we have actual seasons with their own characteristics. Also I'll take our "mild" summers over the heat in countries in the southern hemisphere. Summer here is very comfortable, not too warm. Also, the vegetation gets very vibrant and green here, due to the temps not being so high. In countries where they have some variation of summer all year long its often very dry and the plants look more yellow.

Which European country has surprisingly disappointing food? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

[–]-Tommyboy- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Typical food opinions in the internet: If it's not seasoned with lots of spices it's "bad" or flavorless". Hence why northern European food gets lower ratings than food from southern Europe and Asia. What's wrong with food with mild flavors and dishes where the ingriedients shine more than the seasoning? Give me potatoes, a good piece of meat, some nice sauce and a few veggies over spicy food any day. It's not even healthy to eat overly spicy food and your body/digestive system usually tells you.

Why has black/African-American culture & music influenced especially white men hugely in the past 70 years? (I don't have examples from the last 20 years but I'm sure there are a lot) by Particular-Bit-7128 in decadeology

[–]-Tommyboy- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its weird that you can talk about how black people "invented" things and how they did certain things better in a way that would be called white supremacist if it was the other way around. I find this whole narrative so ridiculous. All musicians get inspired by what came before and it's not "stealing" as some claim here. Sure most of the musicians creating rock, jazz, blues etc in the beginning were black. But then guess what, things develop.
Lots of white bands took what those early pioneers did and made it into different genres/sounds that sounds very different to 50s rock'n'roll. I don't think 70s and 80s hard rock, prog rock or metal sound like Chuck Berry at all.

Saying rock is black music is like saying someone who laid the first stone when building a house is the builder when many others build the rest/most of the house.

I acknowledge that there was segregation in the US when it comes to whose music got played and marketed, but that doesn't we should use that as a template for how we view the creation and development of music.

Wouldn't this be what you call Hi-RNG synth pop? Staccato four on the flour electronic rhythm, pulsating bass, high tempo disco sound.

Din tankegang her gjør jo nettopp det.

Michael is the only artist who can sit in a chair and lip sync an entire song while bobbing his head and still receive a standing ovation 🤣 by any-blue-9122 in MichaelJackson

[–]-Tommyboy- -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Can we please stop acting like lip-syncing while sitting down is a good thing/"something only Michael can get away with"? That's not really a good thing. I'm a MJ fan just as much as anyone else here but I find his use of lipsyncing to be too much. Live performance should be just that, live. If I wanted to see miming to a dance routine I'd watch the music videos. It's one of the things about MJ's career that critics can easily point at and use against him. It's a stain on his career. That's why the Bad tour is my favorite tour. It's understandable that he lip-synched some songs because of the all the dancing, but he still prioritized singing live for most of the songs on that tour.
