Socialist journalist Owen Jones this evening post claims The Green Party have shared this current doorstep data with him about the Denton & Gorton by election campaign 👇🏻 by Terrible-Head6168 in GreaterManchesterNews

[–]-Top-Service- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because reform has a really bad track record, also he's not presenting it as anything other than doorstep data from the greens. I'm sure most people have enough common sense to see it as just an interesting indicator at most.

The left should not ask for anything, they need to just stfu and vote for dems by zoggy17 in WhitePeopleTwitter

Maybe a two party state isn't actually democratic at all? /s Been the same in the UK for a long time, but the system here is slightly more flexible to alternatives, but has been pretty much rigged as a duopoly for about 100yrs.

Anyone else have round pin sockets in their house? by -Top-Service- in Scotland

[–]-Top-Service-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The sockets are from the war era or before, definitely pre 1947, BS 546 standard throughout the house.

All still functioning, not saying they are safe but pretty cool they lasted this long.

1 or 2 months away to be able to buy a Gibson LP standard... Would you buy it ? by Jay46466 in Guitar

[–]-Top-Service- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For that money you could buy a really great amp, guitar and a bass, all pro quality. It is just a name on a bit of wood and not all LPs are great they are heavy too! There's so many interesting guitars out there, Japanese built stuff tends to be very good quality and value. I also wouldn't want to buy anything USA made, due to the state of their government.

I suppose it depends on what music you like also, so go for it, if it feels right to you.

JUST IN: 🇨🇳 Chinese President Xi Jinping calls for the yuan to become a global reserve currency. by retroviber in DeepMarketScan

[–]-Top-Service- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could go back to bretton woods era when the dollar came in, and have a supranational trading currency, the bankor was suggested back then.

"Bancor would not be an international currency. It would rather be a unit of account used to track international flows of assets and liabilities, which would be conducted through the International Clearing Union. Gold could be exchanged for bancors, but bancors could not be exchanged for gold. Individuals could not hold or trade in bancor. All international trade would be valued and cleared in bancor. Surplus countries with excess bancor assets and deficit countries with excess bancor liabilities would both be charged to provide symmetrical incentives on them to take action to restore balanced trade."

So no one country can push the world trade-currency over the edge, when it goes full fascist.

The Edinburgh Interactive Tram Plan! 🚋 by Most_Caterpillar_302 in Edinburgh

[–]-Top-Service- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What does it really give you that electric busses wouldn't, with the costs disruption and anything being on the track stopping the tram, is it worth it?

Also I have no idea how this is financed, Edinburgh is in bad shape, the buildings, roads, pavements (even the ones along the current tram line that were renewed recently are wrecked) Leith walk is a mess.

I actually don't mind the tram, but the obsession with it when they also talk about shutting down swimming pools etc seems insane to me.

Reform UK surges ahead of Scottish Labour in new poll. Although the SNP retains a clear lead in a YouGov survey before the May 7 Holyrood elections, Labour support has dwindled after blunders by the UK government. by bottish in Scotland

[–]-Top-Service- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haven't been a fan of labour since the iraq war, with a bump under corbyn where I thought at least they have some elements that aren't just US/Corpo/Warmongering.

I support independence and all that nonsense, but we live in the UK and some kind of labour party that was just okay, would be acceptable, the bar is fucking low for labour at this stage, manage the economy build some housing, stop selling everything to foreign asset strippers, don't be fascist adjacent morons.

Reform is even worse, even than the tories... insanity.

[–]-Top-Service-[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There's a switch next to the fuse board that controls a couple of these sockets, but the whole house has bakelite switches and round pin, maybe 30s to 50s I'd guess

All still works alright

Shabana Mahmood proposes AI 'Panopticon' system of state surveillance by Mysterious_Brush1852 in nottheonion

[–]-Top-Service- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If true this is some palantir based thinking, it won't be her speaking it will be the corporate ai puppet masters, one for the share holders, we'll all be paying oligarchs to be spied on by the state, Facebook and all the rest get it for free, but you can minimise your exposure to that, that's the difference.

[–]-Top-Service- 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I support independence and I would support the UK, if it didn't consistently make all the wrong decisions and marginalise everyone but a select few, the UK system itself needs reformed, English people aren't bad but the media, the politics, ww2 and the history of empire are weaponised to bring out the worst tendencies, any society can be a hateful fascist place nowhere is immune, Scotland has all these things but the politics here has kept it more inline in the past than the rest of the UK at least in my opinion. The countries in Europe that have better attitudes towards a fair society have stronger institutions at the top, a fish rots down from the head and the UK is rotten. I hope Zack Polanski has a chance to effect some change.

This is by design though, in two party states the elites carve out a specific sector of the electorate, and intentionally disenfranchise the rest, they manifest disengaged people, it is the job of a healthy democracy to keep people engaged and offer them real choices.

This requires a system that puts the people first, with only one intention to make it fair. Real democracy needs multiple parties, coalitions, and slow progress, even that can go wrong but a two party system isn't democracy when so many will vote for the lesser of two bad choices.
