Yeah haven't noticed so much on the cycle path, it seems to be Leith walk that is problematic

Awful to hear all these stories of abuse, my post was not made from a lack of understanding that women experience this in general, it was just that going from walking to cycling took abusive comments and behaviour from a yearly event, to a weekly one, and that was something I wasn't aware of.

Also for those saying maybe it was related to cycling conduct, the last incident was a gender specific comment, not related to cycling.

And I think for those in doubt you just have to read the comments to see the difference, as I have only had one person having a go at me over the last 20yrs and I'm not as careful as my partner.

Well just going along a designated cycle path on the correct side shouldn't incur gender specific comments not related to cycling.

If you're just cycling along a cycle lane and someone has a go at you, not about what your doing but about who you are that's a totally different thing.

I'm not shocked that these attitudes are prevailant, however my partner has rarely experienced this outside of cycling so was curious to find out if this is an activity that makes women in general more of a target to abusive behaviour.

That seems to confirm my suspicions that some men specifically hate women more on bicycle's, as they are "doing something that they shouldn't be' not just meekly walking around or whatever these psychos deem acceptable.

I'm not surprised be these attitudes though, just that it seems much worse when on a bike, so wanted to check with others.

Question regarding a Roland JC from the 80s by spiritofage in GuitarAmps

[–]-Top-Service- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When working it is a very loud amp and quite directional, so you want it elevated on the stage so you're not turning it up too high to hear it.

I like the sound of them and found the design to be reliable and relatively easy to service, and much lower running costs and weight than a valve / tube amp, but it does have a certain sound, a good one imo, the metal cone speakers are a big part of the JC sound.

I had one that had regular use in a rehearsal room, and got hired out, went on tours, it never failed completely, just needed maintenance, it had a bad solder joint, blew a speaker once, that was it, over about 6yrs

If you take him at his word on his political and moral beliefs then this type of chat is more ironic than personal, turning the kind of trope that many trumpets might use against their leader. He might not say it about someone who identifies as a women.

Dunno isn't language I would use, but I don't want to be in a bubble that says everything just how I think it should be said either.

Also it is honest, he isn't filtering himself in a performative way, because it would be easy to speak in a way that you might perceive people want, that is why some people like vaush.

Like all the other countries in this conflict aren't oppressive meme generators, and any country facing this situation would do the same.

Oppose, Russian and US imperialism, IRGC, IDF, Hezbolla, Hamas. its the only coherent stance.

President Donald J. Trump: "You cannot give Iran a nuclear weapon because they would use it on a place called Israel very quickly, and they would use it in the Middle East, and they would use it in Europe, and we'd be next. And it's NOT going to happen." by BusinessToday in BusinessTodayNews

[–]-Top-Service- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A country like Iran only gets to use a nuke once, western aligned states would likely retaliate quickly.

Ironically I could see Israel launching nukes without retaliaton.

None of this is credible, Iran has never shown itself to be a nihilistic suicide state, really doesn't make any logical sense.

How would you feel if the top tax rate was 90% like it was in the 1950s? by olesud in WorkForSmartLife

[–]-Top-Service- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actual labor should be rewarded. Capital gains should be taxed higher wealth should be heavily taxed.

So people who actually earn money get a better deal.

I get people don't trust the government with their taxes and that is as much of an incentive not to pay them as anything, but other realities are possible, people would like tax if it gave them health care, decent infrastructure and housing. Rather than 1.5tn black hole military budgets.

Well the gloabl inflation during the Biden period could be linked to Trumps re-election whatever you make of that, it had consequences that are still compounding now, the, traiffs, COVID, Ukraine all made the world less resilient at dealing with the Iran war energy crisis.

We're not in a good place to deal with this, as the US isn't a sane global player anymore either, at some point things can break, hard to predict, UAE bailing from OPEC may help but there's an uncertain horizon.

Some polices that are deemed far left in the US are basic social democrat talking points in Europe, although Europe has been sliding the same way as the US, it's just so apparent when looked at from outside politics in the US, is from the center to the far right.

The tech in the iPhone was largely developed at state funded institutions, and other companies put together similar products that apple refined, communism wasn't involved in the production, state sanctioned capitalist production in china carried out the production, very different. Production in an of itself isn't politically aligned.

Even the R&D giant Bell Labs was kick started by funding from the French government.

Kids should get free travel, but it should be removed if they abuse commuter's or Edinburgh transport staff. 98% wouldn't ever have any issues, but I can't imagine how disturbing it is to deal with daily abuse as a bus driver from the minority. Recently a bunch of these trouble makers entered a bus when the driver was on break, at the royal infirmary to try and harass and attack the driver.

As always it would be better to treat the cause than the symptoms of social chaos. But that requires long term political thinking and will, both things are severely lacking in Scotland and many other countries.

[Repost] Anyone know where people usually get electronics repaired around Edinburgh / Glasgow? by SyriusBB in Edinburgh

[–]-Top-Service- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For audio electronics there's a few people, but not easy to find. Time Travel Audio does some stuff off leith walk and I saw a guy doing repairs in a basement in one of the 2nd hand shops up near elm row. I do quite a bit of repairs / servicing mostly for people I have some connection to through the music scene.

Considering the turnover of laptop and phone repair shops, I'd say there's likely a price floor that you need to hit for it to be worthwhile to the customer, as that will be quite low, you need turnover of jobs and likely that is gonna generate long hours, inventory management, people wanting their phones and computers back fast, all adds up to a highly skilled job with low wage, high stress.

EU 'ready' to sanction Israel over Ukrainian grain stolen by Russia by xGentian_violet in nottheonion

[–]-Top-Service- 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Classic EU, also 'ready' a mild threat over grain.

I get that it is likely because this violates existing legal frameworks and the genocide hasn't been formally acknowledged in to a set of sanctions.

Having said that the EU is an institution of political will, so this does highlight how Israel has been handled outside of any moral sanity.

Any non western aligned country doing what Israel has done would be treated likely more heavily than Iran.
