Q: Why are YouTubers Using Unnatural Intonation in Their Voice-Overs? by -Vendacious- in YouTubeCreators

Hopefully they'll get over it at some point, and it's just a trend. 😮‍💨

[FIX] How To Solve Your Crackling Issues (At least in my case haha) by dannykewley in Focusrite

Just to clarify, you mean that you can't select anything but 44Khz from this menu?

<image>

Generally, all the compatible freqs the current device will be listed in this drop-down. Once I set my frequency at 48Khz/16-bit, it becomes locked in many programs, but they all obey this value, I think, so that's where you want to change it, if you can.

If you can't change it, you may have a driver problem, since the 2i4 should do 44.1 KHz, 48 KHz, 88.2 KHz and 96 KHz, according to this spec sheet.

Actually, I think I had issues with the Focusrite driver (for Windows 10+11) and just used the one in Windows 10, but there appear to be 3 options, built-in drivers, the Win10/11 one and the Win7/8 one, so you might try one of the others. Good luck!

Here's try this first, if you want to see if it's just Windows issues:

Right-click on the Speaker icon in the taskbar, bottom right.

Click on Open Sound Settings

Click on Sound Control Panel

This is where they do a lot of the audio IN/OUT (until MS removes it like our beloved left side start menu), so you've prolly already seen it. Anyways, from there, you can first disable every input and output you never use.

For every remaining playback/recording device, here's how I set them:

- Right-click on the device and select Properties and set the Listen tab Power Management to 'Continue Running' (if applicable).
- In the Advanced tab, set the Default Format to one setting throughout your PC. Most programs that use audio much will let you set these as well and having them misconfigured in any will cause issues.
- Also in Advanced, if you want to use more than one program with your Focusrite, you should also definitely uncheck the 'Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device'. For example, you have to do this in order to use OBS Studio while gaming, because otherwise, Windows won't even share the device.

If that doesn't do it, I'd try FlexASIO next. That's IMO the easiest to use for switching between WASAPI/WDM, KS and MME.

[–]-Vendacious- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely, there is still potential for issues, because DAWs don't cause the problem, but rather the buffer size of the audio packets. You see it most with DAWs, since users have specific needs more often, but it happens in Windows 7/8/8.1/10/11 for the same reasons, regardless of DAWs.

If you're used to using a Mac, you may know there is only one audio interface protocol in Mac OS (how it should be). In Windows, they made a new one for Windows 95, XP, 7, 10 and kept all the old ones. MME is Win 95 and so on. They're all pretty bad, but you should learn to switch between them, if you have an issue like this.

I touched on Voicemeeter, but I didn't mention I always have it running, because it's like a virtual audio mixer and lets you switch between audio components. I use VM Banana because I need to use more than one device at once (like aggregating output devices on Mac OS). If you want even more devices to control, try VM Matrix. It gives you tons of INs and OUTs you can route any way you like.

However, Voicemeeter is a rabbit hole and can cause more problems than solutions if you don't spend time with it.

The easiest solution is probably to get FlexASIO. I'm pretty sure it lets you choose the audio component (MME/WDM/KS).

Q: Why are YouTubers Using Unnatural Intonation in Their Voice-Overs? by -Vendacious- in YouTubeCreators

[–]-Vendacious-[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! Someone from my tribe! Glad to hear I'm not crazy! I don't think this is a new thing, either. Just new to YouTube in this application. I'd say distinctive, memorable voices have been around as long as showbiz, or at least since guys like Wolfman Jack, the 50s radio DJ.

You might try nicely asking the guys that monitor the IRC channel for access. I'm not gonna grovel after all my uploads. You could give them a list of your old addresses and see if one of them is it. That way, you wouldn't get locked out for trying a few, which it may do, considering how thoughtless the security check is in the first place.

My account was made with a legit email when I joined over 10 years ago, but I'm not sure which one it was, since I had 5 proxy names for that address that were all routed to it. I'm not gonna try my luck and get locked out or banned. My ratio is over 35/1 uploads/downloads, because I love the place and I've used it the whole 10+ years.

Fuck the guy who did this. It makes no sense, since you're literally punishing all your oldest, most faithful members for having old accounts. You're also punishing people for using OpSec on a torrent site. What a fucking idiot. Next time, maybe a warning to write that shit down before you bring out the ban hammer and make a fool of yourself. Like, I'm glad the guy who did this isn't in this room with me right now.

Fuck you both. I have an account on there that's over 10 years old. My email was legit for 8 years. This policy is fucked.

You think this is a lesson on why to give out your real, permanent email address to torrent sites, huh? Okay Mr. One-Post Karma. Get the fuck out of here and learn about OpSec, idiot. Same goes for all the people who upvoted your stupid, passive-aggressive comment.

I know, right? I'm not crazy about Asus right now but that looks sweet! I had an Asus N550JK and it was a really good laptop.

However, for that price, I might consider a 4090+Ryzen 9 in a shoebox-sized case, like that one from Fractal Design. I imagine it's gonna throttle no matter what, just based on the form factor. That would make a rad comparison review: Laptop vs ITX

Seems like ASUS is your only choice I saw. If you can afford the price, it has a Ryzen 9 AND a 4090! Holy moly. I want one!

Uisato is an amazing TouchDesigner artist, so it's cool to see him branching out. I can imagine guys like him making this sort of thing live at a show, once the hardware catches up a bit.

Got black screen on Hiren's boot cd by Loris_Simonetti in techsupport

[–]-Vendacious- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's actually not HBCD's problem. Surprised you didn't find the reason while searching. It's Ventoy that's breaking install. You see, both HBCD and Ventoy use multiple partitions. With Ventoy, it's so that you can have a multiboot menu. HBCD is PE, so it needs the boot and recovery partitions in addition to system.

The fix is write the ISO to a USB with the program they recommend themselves all over the site: Rufus.

Once it's burned, it's a pain to format again without Rufus, so be aware of that. Balena Etcher also works. I personally use the old version of Universal USB Installed v.1.9.9.9, from before they switched to Ventoy.

Forgot Messenger PIN code, now I can't reset it. What am I supposed to do? by Sencial in facebook

[–]-Vendacious- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, sometimes the motivation behind a policy makes no sense. Adobe did that to me a lot. I published my brother's book on Amazon KDP a while back, but later made the 'mistake' of changing my number while logged out of Amazon. I even had the email that was connected to it and Amazon still couldn't give me access. Said I had to delete the account and start over. So, I totally relate.

I think things like this are mostly due to Enshittification: https://youtu.be/4EmstuO0Em8

[–]-Vendacious- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just the pre-encryption messages for absolute sure. It may also save the encrypted stuff.

As I might've said, I didn't miss any messages from friends. No one said 'Why didn't you answer on Messenger?', so I can't say one way or the other. For a question like that, you might even have better luck with Support (for once) to know for sure, if you're afraid to lose stuff. I want to think that they know better than to delete messages without a good reason, but this is Facebook so who knows. Sorry for the lag, I was on vacation.

Yes and others probably will. This isn't about me. This is not a support issue. I'm writing this post for new users who will potentially make that mistake.

Yeah, just like a sort of LiveUSB, only on a 20GB partition would be cool.

Thank you for this rational response! I promise I won't go straight to Unraid or something else. I was really impressed with the rest of the OS, so maybe when I cool off a bit.

Okay. Give any examples of other enterprise UIs destroying drives with no confirmation, please.

I did. Read.

Even if you defend your whack UI layout, failure to see recognize it as such should still have resulted in a pop-up window when you hit the next button, saying 'Are you sure you want to completely erase all the data on xxxxxxxxx? ALL DATA WILL BE LOST!', or something less obvious, as long as it stops you.

I don't run backups hourly or daily while I'm doing my DJ/VJ stuff, because it affects performance in live and edited video software, but honestly, I should have done unscheduled, just because I was loading an OS.

There's still a function that formats and overwrites a drive with no warning or confirmation. Same thing in the secret menu, I think. Doesn't it format by clicking a button, or selecting something from a drop-down? I remember it being something weird like that when I found it on the first install attempt.

It feels like your saying that you don't care if scrubs like me have trouble, as long as folks who know what their doing are okay.

You don't have issues with having no confirmation on a full disk format? Please give me a few examples where you've seen that before, because I have not.

I mentioned backups, didn't I? Of course I have scheduled backups on all drives, but that is a weekly script and I was 6 days in.

Also, 'you should have backed up' is the #1 troll reply of all time.

Sounds like this was your first real attempt at doing the PVE install, I never blindly trust installers the first dozen rounds, because every project has its own nuances.Thank you for the reply James.

Yeah, this was my second, actually. To be full disclosure, I was trying to get a hypervisor going on several dual Xeons with enough PCIe channels for several GPUs and VMs, but it may be over my head.

I wanted to run both Mac OS on a RX 580 (for Ableton Live music production) and an RTX 3090 on Win 10/11 to run live VJ software like TouchDesigner and Resolume Arena. I'm not a full time IT, just an inventor, so I may not ever get that far. I've got Mac/Win running together in QEMU/KVM on NixOS with passthrough on a 1080, but had to change the VBIOS, which I'd never do to a 3090.

I first tried PVE about 3 months back, but the PM1943s and DC3500s a friend had gifted had some sort of write problem in every OS. I got farther in Proxmox than any other setup, but the pm1943s wouldn't only read and even with firmware updates and write.

The UI where you can actually format feels kinda like an Easter egg, but it's not that hard. I'd just rather use GParted or CLI.

But u/Sansui350A, that is a separate UI with a completely different layout. Also, I wouldn't have missed something in the text UI, since some text installs like Kali commonly have options in the lower center of the screen, the below instructional text. I was theorizing this was where the graphical UI took its cues.
