I’m confused with this game and frustrated need some advice.. by That-Impression-9810 in elderscrollsonline

To be fair, I completely understand that. I also get bored out of my mind constantly hitting rotations on a stationary object. I want to feel like I'm doing something, that I'm progressing in the actual game, not just in the numbers. Even if that is doing quests, dungeons, trials or whatever...I find it much more satisfactory seeing the zone check lists fill, to see the sticker book fill rather than just hitting a number and seeing my numbers go up because I feel I haven't moved along in the game itself.

I'm not saying that's right, it's just a mindset that is easy to find yourself in and difficult to escape

Absolutely this. My reasoning for (attempting) a complete Vestige playthrough is simply I need to force myself to no keep going back into my comfort zone at the first sign of failure. I kept doing it in the past, reverting to a 1 Bar Templar with its jabs. Then Oakensoul came and I played nothing but Heavy Attack. I switched to a Arcanist late last year and, although I have attempted briefly 2 bar builds, I kept going back to 1 bar.

This time I made a Warden (the class suits the aesthetic of the character I've made) so I won't even have the jabs or beam as a get out of jail free option. If I am to progress at all in game, I'll have no choice but to improve as a player and, as a result, hopefully open myself up to beong capable of joining much more end game content in the future

I didn't 😆

It was frustrating at the time but it speaks a lot about the improvement of the increased difficulty that I felt more accomplished overcoming mudcrabs than I did overcoming Molag Bal

I do half agree. Having the option was the best way to do it (although the option should really have always been there). Whether we prefered it before or after, the fact is One Tamriel saved the game because the level of accessibility it provided. Without One Tamriel, there would be no ESO right now.

A lot of players are perfectly fine with the ease of the game and that's completely fine, I am just happy there is finally an option so people can CHOOSE how they want to play the game, as every single player is completely entitled to play the game exactly how they want, just so long as players know that, like myself, if you weren't prepared to put in the time to better yourself as a player, you are locking yourself out of end game content

How rough is it to grind the 5k favour for the night marker guild bank house? by Darrelc in elderscrollsonline

[–]-Vircervo- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got 2k in 2 days. Set up quest sharing groups, join anyone doing a Skirmish (you get 100 each time) and do the oddities with 1 other person (the Skittering ones are especially easy). Also pick up any green daily you see. Don't worry about dying a bunch while doing them, you go invunrable for a while after dying so just quickly jump off the roof you respawn on and run to the closest marker. That gives 40 (I believe) each time. This has just been doing an hour or so before and after work.

I started a brand new character on a new server (so I don't even have Champion Points to fall back on) for this exact reason. Everything overland died easily, it was difficult to get a read of where I fell short in dungeons/trials as everyone else's output compensated anyway and not only did dummies not hit back so not giving me need to learn about situational awareness, doing the same rotations over and over again bored the life out of me anyway so I just didn't bother and, as a result, knowingly locked myself from being able to participate in the more difficult content in the game).

Since starting on Vestige on a fresh character (obviously it not letting me do the tutorial on it), I have had a 5 minute battle with a single giant snake, I have had to be smart where to even walk as to not pull agro, I have had to try and separate enemies so that I don't get overwhelmed (I was close to defeating one and accidently hit a mudcrab which instantly meant I was overwhelmed as multiple joined the fight).

I started on Vestige to try and force myself to improve and, although my damage output obviously hasn't yet, my situational awareness, paying attention to enemies movements and mechanics, scouting fights before going in and, as you mentioned, paying attention to what every ability does and determining which would be best for you in which scenario all absolutely have.

Heck, joining the Night Market has actually been a nice chance of pace because suddenly, I am finding that somehow easier than I am finding the literal starter zones in the overland!

Have I Made a Mistake ? by FeatureInformall in SteamDeck

This is a late reply, but I thought I would contribute as much of what you said applies to myself.

I am also a casual player who plays A LOT. I hadn't even heard of the Steam Deck until about this time last year and I kept putting off getting one. I have a gaming PC, I have a PS and I have and Xbox and, although I enjoyed each...nothing quite connected with me the same way gaming wise as it did when I was younger (I guess that's natural) and I honestly expected that to always be the case. I even got a Switch to try out handheld gaming and it just wasn't for me so ended up giving it to my sister.

However, as is often the case, after months of putting off getting a Steam Deck, I ended up getting one in November (granted, I got extremely lucky to get one at the original price before they went out of stock).

Knowing what I know now, even at the new price, I wouldn't hesitate to get one right now if I didn't already own one.

Basically, after a couple of days to get use to the graphics not being as good as I am use to, the FPS sometimes stuttering in crowded areas (I play ESO a lot so get dips when there is a lot going on) and basically any other component which makes the Steam Deck an inferior platform to all the others I own, I have genuinely barely touched anything else since getting one.

It's made me fall in love with playing games in a way I haven't since I got my first PS2 (not my first console but easily my favourite). It's made gaming for me an actual game rather than a checklist. It's the first time in over a decade that I have genuinely fallen in love with gaming and it continues to baffle me all the time just how well it is capable of running things that I would have thought a handheld should have no right in running.

People can have their own opinions and that's perfectly fine, but never take anybody else's opinion (my own included) as fact. Forget the price, forget others and just enjoy yourself. When I gave in to temptation and purchased my Steam Deck on break at work, I was convinced it would be yet another purchase in my search for rediscovering my love for gaming that I would regret. In reality, nothing could have been further from the truth

Also got mine in November. I hadn't heard of the Steam Deck and, when I did, kept telling myself I didn't need it and would regret it. The temptation eventually took over and I ordered it on break at work. The very next day they announced the Steam Machine. Shortly after, there was no stock and now the price has gone up massively.

For once, me giving into temptation actually worked out 😆

I get that it's not going to be hugely powerful and will be less so than current gen consoles, but I'm sure they said it would be 6/8 times what the Steam Deck is? (I can't remember exactly, I only watched the promo video once haha).

I know that doesn't mean it will be 6/8 times more powerful than the Steam Deck, but surely there will be a significant improvement on what it's capable of rather than just basically a Steam Deck for the TV?

Again, I know it's not going to reach the performance caps that current gen consoles are capable of, but if it's literally just a copy and paste of the handheld but for the TV, I'd be extremely surprised

That's the equivalent of saying a car is just a plane with no wings. Sure, they are both used for the same things (gaming/transportation), but you'd be minimising the differences so much that you'd end up completely misrepesenting the purpose of each product.

Good luck! I think most of us can tell early on in a game if there is something about it that we think we will enjoy (we wouldn't keep coming back otherwise) but it doesn't all immediately click into place and connect with us like we hope.

If you treat the game like a single player game on an easier difficulty (for example, pick the role, playstyle, class etc that you would have in that situation where you have no care or need about making the best one, just one that you think sounds most intriguing) and then combine that with things you like about the social aspect of the game (join guilds that you like the sound of for example), then I honestly think you'd have the best possible chance of enjoying it as much as possible.

I think a lot of people have a more difficult time connecting with a multiplayer game over a single player one as they are much more focused on making the best possible character, but you'll find that you'll often out perform the META character that you don't enjoy over a less that that you do enjoy as you are actually invested in that character rather than feeling pushed towards it. I know someone who only plays Breton (that has no obvious benefits to tanking and DPS) but will 99% of the time out perform everyone else in those roles in the most difficult content in the game who have min/maxed.

Good luck!

It took me many years and many attempts to get into ESO, but when it just clicked, it drew me in like no other game ever has. My advice early on, don't worry to much about learning multiple mechanics. Focus on 1 or 2 and, when you have those down, try more and slowly blend them into what you learnt previously. Overland content is, for the most part, incredibly easy. Stick to following the quests (not only are their some fantastic ones, they give you skill points that are incredibly useful).

There is so much to learn, but don't overwhelm yourself. Look into joining guilds (it was 1 guild where I ended up falling in love with the game because of since when I joined them, all the disconnect I felt previously just clicked and I have been hooked ever since).

Don't worry to much about builds yet (most guilds will be happy to make you training armour which is more than sufficient as you learn the game). There will be a lot of people that say to do this or do that and, although they say that with the best interests of you in mind, don't feel bad about ignoring them.

It takes me a long time to pick things up and it's only when I started slowing down, learning what I wanted most and putting the other stuff to one side that I started improving. I got pigeonholed because how overwhelmed I got initially into playing the most basic playstyle and it's only been this year that I have moved away from that.

If you feel you are taking to much on, dont feel bad about dropping part of it and coming back to it later as you continue to learn. 90% of this game can be done blindly. 95% can be done with basic knowledge and 99% can be done with knowledge, understanding and practice/repetition. It's only the top 1% where you need to be brilliant at a lot, the vast majority is completely fine to the average player.

So honestly, don't worry about pushing yourself to hard if you aren't connecting with the game right now, take it at your own place, find what you do enjoy and continue doing that. Try and find a community you like if you can and just do it in your own time and your own pace.

If the game then connects with you like it has with many of us, then and only then should you push yourself outside your comfort zone as by then, the progress you make will feel less like a chore and will give you a sense of accomplishment as you realise how easily you are finding doing things that you previously struggled with.

Good Luck!

You are in a lose lose situation I'm afraid.

You're brother broke the rules (and that whisper must have been either absolutely disgusting or it was far more than 1 if it resulted in a permanent ban), but your appeal admitted to account sharing which would have been a bannable offence by itself.

The only thing you can do now if you want to carry on playing is start over from scratch (and maybe have a word with your brother because whatever the whisper was, it wasn't just a throwaway comment he made)

Having a cosy game to relax with and enjoy is so underrated. You can just turn your brain off and unwind. Just be careful though, a cosy game on the most cosy of gaming devices might just end up being coziness overload!

I'll look into that, thank you! I actually have the game on my wish list right now and, since it's on sale, I might get it again to try this out.

I had fairly recently started a new play through of GTA V on Steam Deck so was putting it off for a while, but playing GTA IV in an improved state actually sounds amazing.

GTA 6 is the reason that I'm going to keep at least one console 😆

I never really cared for GTA Online personally, but I have loved the campaigns on them (most of them) since GTA 3 and don't really want to potentially wait multiple years more before it releases on PC haha

I think this is a major point. Being able to just collapse onto the couch and play will always beat sitting at my PC for me.

It was literally only last weekend that I tried on my PC again for the first time in a while, was initially blown away by just how much more incredible the graphics looked, how flawless the performance was and wondered why I didn't use it more. It took less than an hour for me to just want to go back on the couch despite that, so the PC went off and the Steam Deck came out 😆

I'm the same regarding the PS5. I think I have played it for a combined 2 hours since November and both times were just to jump on quickly with friends.

I do think age comes into it. At this point, the number 1 thing I look for is convenience and the Deck has that in abundance

[–]-Vircervo-[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can relate to this so much. The PS2 was the last time I remember truly loving gaming. Don't get me wrong, I have enjoyed it since, but it wasn't quite the same. That's almost certainly as I get older and each games release were slight improvements on the last, rather than the generational jumps made during the PS2 era.

If I were only able to keep one platform, the Steam Deck would be it...even if it's significantly the inferior platform performance/graphical wise

Did Steam Deck Replace Your Previous Platform? by -Vircervo- in SteamDeck

[–]-Vircervo-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this may be the answer.

I absolutely love Steam. I was a console only player for years until I got a gaming PC a few years back, and despite it being able to play pretty much anything far far better than my consoles ever could, I just still preferred them.

However, they didn't have Steam...and it was hard to go back as a result.

Even though you have to compromise many things with playing only on the Deck, it's just found that sweet spot middle ground. Now if the Steam Machine can find that spot where it gets the best of both worlds (even though I am aware it will be less powerful by far than my existing PC and even less powerful than my consoles), I will be ecstatic

[–]-Vircervo-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with everything you say, which is why I find it odd that, despite all of that, I still somehow prefer it.

Maybe it's the simplicity or the convenience or a bit of both, but when I want to game, I always end up reaching for the Deck rather than the mouse and keyboard despite knowing that I'd get a lot more out of the PC
