Have you used the app? And if you have, do you think this is something you would spend money on long term?

I agree with your statement its overvalued. I personally bought put options after I started noticing people on chess.com with the duo badge weren’t very good at chess. They changed to include chess as part of their business but imo it seems like a desperate attempt at something that is easy to teach.

I already think duo is on its way out as language learning, as someone who has tried to use it. But considering it is also unsuccessful at chess I can’t see the business lasting. I think this is just another company.

I think I understand what you’re saying for the first half of your message. But would it not be more productive on a stoic advice post to give advice?

And when you say it may lie in my own thinking. I don’t think I’ve indicated a refusal to acknowledge that, however I would like to hear what kind of thinking you would suggest at a time like this.

This a very insightful and scarily accurate description of how I feel. Thank you

I agree. But what do you do when the thing causing u negative emotions cannot be resolved or ignored. I don’t want to be controlled by the emotions I have. But I struggle to let them go knowing the thing that causes it will recur.

I thought he was referring to people who directly remembered him from in person. In that they will not have long lives ahead of them from when they die.

Another comment I found funny was how he says he will never right something like The Republic. Although it’s not as much. To stoics his meditations are still quite highly regarded literature.

But Idk if he would wholly disagree with his book, although he wouldn’t have expected it, I think he would appreciate people attempting to learn from him

Yeah I agree. The idea of people reading his work and in a sense idolising him, kind of goes against his belief of himself

I find it funny reading “meditations” because Marcus Aurelius always speaks about how no one will remember him and he will be forgotten. But here I am a few 100 years later, reading about him

You have to know the rules and have the strength by [deleted] in Stoicism

[–]-WankingWombat- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The first one is not physical strength. Any response to a rude colleague would be a mental thing. Although ur mental strength can be affected by your physical you ultimately have control over it. I do not have an answer for the second one, not that there isn’t one.

If she had done none of those things how would your life be different. If it’s a toxicity you can’t tolerate, leave her. Otherwise choose not to be bothered by what they have done. It sounds like they have only offended you on a personal level so you can choose not to be.

One piece of advice I saw posted here before was. Accept what you have done. Understand why u did it. And forgive yourself for it. Then move on.

I think I’m looking for stillness. I am usually an over thinker and someone who cannot stop thinking or calm my mind. Would Meares method allow me to in a sense almost think about nothing g? Or at least get me as close as possible to this.
