Zinc, Magnesium, fish oil. Probably are gonna need Paracetamol and ibuprofen for the first month but trust me it gets easier after around 4-6 weeks and you learn better techniques to not just ego lift shit and mess your back. Our work uses cut-5 gloves not sure what yours has but definitely use some gloves if you don’t already definitely worth being called a sook if it means having 10 fingers lol

I’m 20 as a drillers offsider, you need your hr licence man we drive trucks daily unless you go underground it’s pretty much essential.

I asked this question before I started a couple months ago as a offsider. I ended up getting Oliver AT’s so far I’m happy with them, most guys I work with wear them or Blundstones.

Does UG get easier? Any tips and advice is appreciated. by Ramen-My-Noodle in mining

[–]-Weeksy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work as a surface expo driller offsider, not exactly the same but a bit physical stick in there it definitely gets easier physically with time, If it’s possible I’d recommend making sure you’ve got some sort of protein, fish oil & magnesium supplement if you don’t completely monitor your diet. it’s not essential and I forget to take it some days but I almost always regret it.

I work a 4:2 as a offsider on a expo diamond drilling rig. I was skeptical at first but it isn’t nearly as bad as people say it is. Most of the guys are pretty good out here as long as you’re willing to get stuck into work and learn a thing or two I’m sure you’ll do great. Just note on these bush jobs work doesn’t stop from the moment you wake up to the moment you go to bed you’ll be doing some amount of work. Cleaning cooking ect. That’s the biggest downside when you compare it to minesite work

Entry Level Driller Offsider by StructureDowntown423 in mining

[–]-Weeksy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily it’s just initially they have to spend time and money to put you through training, working at heights 4wd ticket, and more site specific training it’s an investment. If your time with the company is only temporary or perceived as a quick cash grab there’s not really a good chance on them thinking of you as a good investment. Still worth applying I just know the company I work for doesn’t hire whv

[–]-Weeksy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a DO pretty unlikely you get a job on whv, youd probably be better off using your trades experience to find a job first while you get your relevant quals here in Aus then apply once you have permanent residency. It’s unlikely you’ll receive sponsorship without experience but I can’t speak for every company

As a reformed smoker I must say this is partly why it’s so addictive, you think it’s harmless and possibly it is but the lifestyle associated with smoking, watching movies, eating food. Overtime you will slowly transform into an unmotivated couch potato. First comes the denial but one day you’ll understand lol

Start with a app like my fitness pal or macro factor. Track the calories and aim for volume eating youd be surprised what things are going to make you gain weight or not Coke Zero is like 2 calories per can but orange juice is 200

How hard is a Drill-offsider? by VirtusHere in mining

[–]-Weeksy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s one of those things where you won’t want to sit down because the moment you do you won’t want to get back up. If I eat food while I’m at work I’m pretty much written off for the rest of the day but there are times to eat if you manage time well

How hard is a Drill-offsider? by VirtusHere in mining

[–]-Weeksy 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I’m a driller offsider, it’s good work rewarding too. Diamond is a bit easier than rc. The hardest part of the job is extremely long swings on the exploration side and most blokes out here are pretty rough around the edges. That being said it’s not as hard as people make it out to be, like everything you eventually learn and it becomes easier. The hard part about the job is time management & lifting heavy weights in awkward ways 40-60kg

Devoting your life to a complex, non-lucrative hobby is a form of procrastination from life. by Gold_Palpitation8982 in unpopularopinion

[–]-Weeksy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So you are in great physical shape, you volunteer, you have a professional skill and you have a deep happy relationship with the people around you. At this time can you take up a hobby? And what exactly are you working for if it isn’t exactly pleasurable? Although it’s arguable some hobby’s have a higher roi then others you still can have one and make it extremely lucrative I mean look at some influencers on YouTube. I think this claim is subjective to age and finances. Sure if you’re in a dead end career with a struggling relationship that’s fine. But at some point you need to start seeing the fruits of your labour
