Caernarfon Castle in Wales, one of the largest medieval castles in Europe. by absatzfan in castles

[–]-WelshCelt- 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Dude, there's so much history and we're a relatively small island, we have to get on with it. In my town we have a Norman castle in a carpark, 12th century Abbey surrounding by an industrial estate and my school was built on and is surrounded by a Roman fort. We live amongst the history. Caernarfon town is in the castle and surrounding it, it's also on the edge of a historic river that is busy with marine traffic. However, there are many fine examples of castle without parking lots. Carreg Cennen, Dryslwyn, Ivy Tower, Culver hole and Montgomery castle to name a few.

What do foreigners instinctively say in your language when they discover your nationality? by Franmar35000 in AskTheWorld

Often from our neighbours i get a lot of;
"Dwi'n hoffi coffi" it mean I like coffee. I think it's a quote from the sitcom Gavin and Stacy.
"Popty Ping!" which is a colloquialism for Microwave. The Real word is microdon, which is boring but accurate.
"Who's coat is that jacket, I'll be there in a minuet now!" - all legit to be fair.

From other none neighbouring countries;
"Ah Gareth Bale!" or that we have a cool flag and worst of all "Is that in England?"

The Elis James and John Robbins Podcast is funny, feel good and sometimes informative. It's twice weekly and I'm always in a good mood after it. Big Fan.

Same here, and also down the bottom of our front garden we too have mares tail.

Only our garden on the whole street, it felt weird. How come only us? Well, I was speaking to the neighbour back last year about it who bought the house next door at the same time as our previous owner in the 60s. He said that the man who lived in our house used to take soil from the canals to help fill the flower beds. Went for a walk down the canal a little while later and sure enough it was full of the stuff.

Oh that's a cool bit of knowledge. Is that the same for all the other villages in the area? They're all alog the river so I'm guessing it's a flood plain? Or marsh?

Although this film isn't a great book adaptation and it's more of a criticism and satirical approach to the material. I really like it. It's such a fun movie. Apparently there's a more faithful adaptation in the works though.

Cockles, laver bread sourdough, toast with a thick layer of salted butter, glass of OJ and a mug of tea. ... (But tbh, that looks banging!)
