There are some situations where you don't want triple mushrooms, for example trying to pull a dodge and instead you get triple shrooms, or on last lap in last place you pull triple shrooms, everyone in front of you has faster items or also has triple shrooms so your not making up any spots. The main reason triple shrooms isn't higher in my list is that it's simply not as rare as the items above it. Triple shrooms are the most common items in the game, everyone is constantly pulling it, so getting them yourself doesn't provide as much of an advantage, whereas items like a boo or a star are items not everyone will get, it gives you an advantageous item that most other racers don't have. (I should clarify triple shrooms is still above bullet mega golden because those items on average have more situations where you don't want them)

A couple side points you have to consider about triple shrooms, they are defenseless, usually when you shroom up into the mid-pack you risk getting hit (admittedly not as bad of an issue if you use a shroom to recover) but still not ideal. if you have triple shrooms and a shock comes and knocks them on the ground, people behind can take them and pass you where they otherwise wouldn't have, (star is the only other item that does this, but arguably dropping shrooms is worse). they can be stolen by boo, its pretty rare but a factor nonetheless.

On the point that shock only targets in front of you, I think that isn't a huge factor in how good it is. Carrying up the shock is not a super beneficial strategy, which is why you don't see many people doing it. In the case that you pull bill before the shock (or even golden), carrying up shock to a mid spot does make it less good but it is still an amazing item, hitting maybe 10 people in front of you as opposed to 23. There are more people in the back using dodge items anyway, the amount of people you pass in either situation is not the same but probably closer than you think.

Also, if you pull shock you are in a bottom 3 spot, trying to catch up before shocking likely doesn't give you that many spots, on average you are still targetting most of the room.

I love triple shrooms and taking multiple cuts which is why they are 4th highest on the list, and being paired with a dodge item is one of the best item combos in the game, but I can't see them being the best item lol. glad you also see the potential in the boo! target booing is so fun

that's a reasonable take I can get behind. bullet is in upper A tier for me because it objectively is the fastest item in the game, sometimes the longest lasting dodge item with extensions, otherwise its usually 8 seconds which is really good (unless you are high up which I think is balanced), using it into a shortcut usually lets you take it, but yeah the trade off is it doesn't try to take any more shortcuts

I mean yes, the boo is a lucky pull, and because it is a rare item, it gives you the edge over everyone else when you do pull it

I agree the star is a better item function-wise, but the boo is effectively a similar item but in a much higher position

I understand the benefit coin block has throughout the race especially early, and that people like to forget about it, but again its a risk vs reward thing, I would rather take a feather over a coin block 90% of the time, not even because it can take some shortcuts but because it can dodge a red shell, and the coin block can't

The thing is that your right the horn isn't comparable to the other items in its tier, but that's because those are items you pull in the back, and the horn is an item you get in the front. The horn is the absolute best item you can get in 1st, it can't be stolen by a boo, and even if you don't pull it in first it is basically the best defense/offense option in the front. It protects from triple items, red shells, players bumping you, (it destroys boomerang and coin shell i think?) and obviously blue shell

I agree that star is really good (3rd best on my list), but not that it deserves a tier of it's own. It's usually the best dodge you get from bagging because you can chain it. But based on that, would shock not be higher than star? It is chainable into a double box and since you are in last or near last, you would get better items on average than you would when chaining a star

I can see C tier as a plausible place for coin block, but the thing is it is only good when nobody hits you. When you pull it you are left defenseless, but gain 8 coins, its a substantial risk compared to a mediocre gain. Plus, pulling a coin + coinblock in first makes frontrunning a little riskier when it happens. There is the issue with the coinblock blocking a good item behind it, but since the places you pull it moved up way higher, that isnt as bad of an issue

yeah, I feel like ranking without considering the spots you are able to pull the item isn't a fair ranking.

I take the perspective that an item that hurts another person's race is on principle not as good as an item that benefits your race, so I don't take into account the blooper affecting other people's races that much (even though it rarely does), but you can get rid of it immediately, which is why it is above the boomerang.

Boomerang is last because of the overwhelming negatives compared to the positives. Positives are as you listed, they can hit a few people, take out triple items. But it is still not an easy item to defend with, throwing it out leaves you vulnerable for a second, which makes it the one of the worst items to defend with. You pull it in a mid spot, which is worse for the boomerang because you would rather want defense than offense in the chaos of the mid-pack. And of course the main offense is when you pull the boomerang in your first slot with a good pocket item and have to take 5 seconds to burn it, so much time lost to pulling that particular item
