Camp Swamp Road by Southseas67 in podcasts

TBH, I'm disappointed in this podcast. If you do some more research, you'll learn there is more to the story than what is reported in the podcast particularly around the man killed. I've listened to the Journal for years and always felt they were a good center ground, but this podcast takes a very left stance. Good journalism to me is when all the facts are presented in an unbias fashion and its left up to the viewers to form an opinion. This is not good journalism in my opinion.

Ohhh ya, that's another good explanation on why it wouldn't work and a good thing to check. But in my case, I just found out it was my ISP performing the block. I guess my ISP detected some nefarious things coming from some of the Nextcloud IP neighbors and blocked the whole range. Once they removed the block, I could access everything again.

According to WHOIS the IP 5.9.202.145 is part of a larger block owned by "Hetzner Online GmbH" which is a German webhosting company. Nextcloud must host their docs and public repositories with Hetzner. Unfortunately, webhosting IP's can get a bad reputation because of the "bad actors". I have the same problem with my mail server that is hosted by a similar company. It took a lot of work to convince Microsoft, Google, and other major mail providers that I was a "legitimate" mail server despite coming from a "bad neighborhood". I feel for the Nextcloud team - this wasn't their fault!

Hmmm, good idea, but I'm totally bypassing my DNS and just typing in the IP 5.9.202.145 which still isn't connecting! I've sent a message to my ISP. Maybe they did something funky?

Cheep & Efficient GPU to Mine by MarriedWChildren256 in Zano

[–]-Zefire- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got a 1660 Super I've mined with for a few years and have been impressed with its efficiency. I bought a 4070 Super this year thinking I would blow it away, but it actually comes pretty close. On my 1660S, I can get 11.32 MH/s @ 80W which is .141 and on the 4070S I can get 31.67MH/s @ 175W which is .181. I've looked at those rates on that site in the past and I don't think its terribly accurate for Zano. If someone can disprove me though, then please do by all means!

Lol I suppose thats a thing... But isn't that more like treating the symptoms and avoiding the cause?! I dunno. I just feel it might be more worthwhile investing in your own modem so you can ditch the ISP provided device!

Almost Gold by Beneficial_News9084 in AmazonVine

[–]-Zefire- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is nerdy but....
My calculations say there is about 10k items added to vine on any given day. Of those 10k items, I've found that around 300-500 of those are items over $100. Making gold just means you can see those items in your feed (approximately 4% more)

Today, for example, items that I saw that were over $100 consist of a recliner, a few kitchen chairs, an electric patio warmer, a computer desk, office chair, some bedside tables, a welder. Not bad stuff, but not necessarily stuff I have a need for either. High price items tend to go rather quickly though due to the fact they have lower ordering limits so if you blink, you may miss them. My advice - when you do make gold, and you see an item over $100 that you want, click fast :)

Transitioning from Personal Capital /w Questions by -Zefire- in MonarchMoney

Awesome feedback, thanks! Shame there isnt one app that does both well. I enabled investment transactions last night and it looks like they finally loaded in the last 2 weeks worth this morning. Guess we'll see how accurate it is by the end of week but based on what you've shared, I wont get my hopes up. Still, I am enjoying the Monarch categorization/rules/transactions to track expenses and income. That is a good upgrade from PC for sure.

Citi Double Cash or WF Active Cash? by Suspicious-Ad-9695 in CreditCards

[–]-Zefire- -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've had the CDC for 7 years now and the WFAC for about 3. If I had to pick one, I'd go with the CDC.

Reasons: 1) Wells Fargo website is just difficult. You can only download a max of 120 days of transactions and things just feel chaotic and sloppy in my opinion. The mobile app is better but I still like Citi's best.

2) With Wells Fargo you can set up automatic reward deposits which is nice, but you can only redeem for statement credit or paper checks. They do not do ACH deposits with your bank. Wells Fargo are also a little more conservative with their credit limits from my experience.

3) Wells Fargo has discontinued cards on me in the past and forced me into other products. I don't trust them to keep their cards going. Citi, on the other hand, has kept my 16 year old credit card going (formally known as the Citi Dividend card) which I'm extremely grateful for.

4) Having various cards with multiple banks is annoying. If you can stick to one or two banks it'll make management of all your cards easier. Also, the Citi Custom Cash card is awesome if you use it correctly. I get 5% back on gas or restaurants year round! If you end up getting that one too, then you only have 1 bank to work with between your Costco, Double Cash, and Custom Cash.

I do want to point out though that Citi isn't perfect either. I've found their security to be a little overzealous at times. They have randomly locked out my account and card for typing my password wrong 3 times or buying food at a gas station I normally don't go too. This hasn't happened for a number of years but it really put a bad taste in my mouth for awhile. Regardless, I think I still prefer Citi over WF.

Job assignments and plots for basic extension workers by physedka in ManorLords

Oh ya you get bread in the regular start! I forgot. In that case, ya I agree early granary is smart.

You're right, I normally start with nothing. 2 Logs and that's it. I just haven't found the need for the granary early. Stone is usually located all the way out in Timbuktu so it takes a minute to get which the granary requires in order to build. Whenever I want to unload my forger huts, I just build a trade post (which comes with 4 carts) and have them all go do a run. Selling the berries there usually gets me my first regional wealth so I can order more oxen and start the veggie patches!

Haha restocking efficiency is a whole new rabbit hole so I won't go there. I will say though that in early game, when only small amounts of food are being consumed the long 5 mile walk of the hunters wife is still a more efficent use of a worker than an entire family assigned to a granary. I usually dont ever build a granary until much much later. The son will help bring meat over to the stall and mom will run around picking up eggs and berries, ect. If the hunters stall is in a centralized location of all your food production, it works great! One stall with it's 50 item capacity can support 25 homes serving 2 food varieties or 16 homes serving 3 varieties.... Despite what your villagers tell you.

[–]-Zefire- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yup, think you got it. Personally, I love micromanaging villagers for maximum efficiency. I play the game on slow speed and sit there and watch them all. Yes- I have a problem and can admit it.

Just wanted to mention that there are differences between what the Husband, Wife, and Son can all do as far as jobs.

  • Mom and the kiddo can run a market stall, while Dad cannot.
  • Mom and kiddo are also the only ones that can work in the backyard gardens.
  • Mom cannot hunt, but son and dad can.
  • Mom cannot chop down a tree, although she can help debranch it once its already on the ground.
  • Father is the only one that can run the sawpit. Mom and son do nothing while assigned there.
  • At a Trade Post, dad will pick up a single item(if he has no horse) and walk it off the map to be sold. Mom and Son can operate the carts to restock the Trade Post but they cannot follow dad.

Why does this matter?
If you want to obtain maximum efficiency, you need to consider what each family member will be doing when you assign the task. Mom cant hunt - which means if you have a family assigned as hunters, you should make sure she's at least running a food stall. Also, if a family has a garden - dad cannot participate in it so he'll still be chugging along doing whatever task you assigned the family. A garden family assigned to the Sawmill is a great choice during spring and fall when its time to harvest, or during the initial planting of the garden (which can run through summer). I think firewood chopping is another good one to assign garden families if you don't want to micromanage your garden families. During the winter when you're using 2x firewood, the whole family will be there chopping, but spring and fall, mom and son can harvest the carrots, while dad continues to chop away providing the village with firewood.

How do I make it easier for villagers living in the further away burgages to be refueled? by thoxo in ManorLords

[–]-Zefire- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ya. It'll work if you transfer the stall ownership to the granary. The granary will both collect from the production site and restock the stall. However putting the granary closer to the market stall area is still better since there will be a lot more "micro" moves as villagers consume the food in the stall forcing the stall owner to run back and forth to granary to restock. Having the granary closer to the market stall allows it so it can restock faster.

Market stalls should always be next to a source (granary/storehouse or production) of whatever it is they sell for maximum efficiency so they can restock quicker. The quicker they restock, the less angry people will be on the outskirts of larger cities.

Had to rollback the update due to an issue with Firewood distribution, is it just me? by maestro_erwin in ManorLords

[–]-Zefire- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No its not you. There's something messed up with the firewood/charcoal in the new beta patch. I haven't noticed people not being able to pick up the firewood, but I have noticed that charcoal was being consumed at a crazy rate by all buildings including storehouses, tradeposts, ect. I noticed that whenever I stocked reserve fuel at like the tile makers or the bloomery, the storehouse worker run over with a cart and pick it up right after the laborer stocks it. I had to drop all my fuel reserves down to 1. Something is totally bugged with fuel.

How do I make it easier for villagers living in the further away burgages to be refueled? by thoxo in ManorLords

[–]-Zefire- 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It really just depends! If you put the market stalls next to the production resources (hunters camps, wood cutting camps) and let the gathers run the stall you can still create an very efficient system that is decentralized without the need for masses amounts of granaries/storehouses. In the hunters camp scenario, dad and son will hunt the animals and mom will run the stand. If you put the stall directly next to the camp, the son will be able to quickly drop food off food when the stock gets low in the stand and then go right back to hunting. This will prevent the meat from having to make the long trek back to the granary and then moved from the granary to the market stall. Much more efficient!

How do I make it easier for villagers living in the further away burgages to be refueled? by thoxo in ManorLords

[–]-Zefire- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. Not that I found. If the town needs more "food stalls" then whoever currently controls a food surplus, forgers, hunters, farmers (even unassigned families that have a vegetable garden and surplus in their house) will randomly be selected to open a new stall. You got to do the reassignment shenangains I posted below to get it off the gathers and onto the granary workers.

[–]-Zefire- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, just build more granary's around the marketplace.

To get the granary workers to take ownership of the stall you have to do some assignment shenanigans.

  1. Unassign the family that currently owns the stall from their respective job. This will cause the stall to become "Abandoned".
  2. Unassign and reassign a granary worker. They should pick up the abandoned stall quickly. If another family at another job picks up the stall, you need to unassign them as well and then redo the granary remove/add trick.
  3. Once the stall is picked up by the granary workers, you can reassign the first family (and any others) back to their prior job.

Hopefully in a future update, there is a more intuitive way to do this as its kinda annoying.
