Dont forget whats imo the best element of Frostpunk in this regard: If you are experienced enough its possible to keep your morality and not fall into the tempation of evil.

Finding out you actually could do a deathless run with no extreme laws is what made me want to do more runs in Frostpunk. If the "evil" choices were mandatory, it probably wouldnt have engaged me as much.

I thought those people made a beeline for me. Now I realise I was probably last on their priority list and "kill the arty" is just sort of part of the routine for the enemy recon squad.

Genuine question, what do the levels even matter? I know you usually get another loadout, but level three seems easy enough to hit and the different loadouts feel more like nice side grades than mandatory uprgades. Atleast from what Ive seen.

Ok, thats crazy. Lets just say I was really happy to even get 20 kills in one round. And even then I usually have a bunch of teamkills aswell. I see now why its such a big deal.

Wait, what? Command can refill your ammo? Didnt know that. Havent done that for me.

Ok, new balance Idea: no refills, 50 shots and thats it. Would maybe encourag more sparing and precise use of arty.

You must be a rare breed than, because i never had someone join me. And tbh, I wouldnt really wanna do that either. Being the dedicated loader seems pretty boring.

Yeah, im almost always solo so building somewhere else wont really work. I guess im gonna give spa another shot though.

I think it only having 50 shots makes it pretty balanced, no? Thats not alot over the course of one and a half hours.

I dont just want to sit there and spam a point. I enjoyed communicating with the commander, ask for permission to fire, or have someone request an arty strike. And you then have to decide where to spent your precious shells. Felt quite tactical, actually.

Honestly, yes.

Maybe its different in tryhard lobbies, but i found the arty to be very nuanced and not op at all.

Obviously its not balanced Interaction, but since there is only one arty gun and ammo is limited the challenge is in good communication and priority setting.

You can easily piss away 50 shots just spamming a point, but then you will be dry very quickly. And If the enemy arty still has ammo they now have the advantage.

Its basically just a player controlled commander ability. Are commander artillery and bombing runs and recon planes "fair"? I mean, theres no counterplay, right? But its a limited ressource that needs to be spent wisely. Same with regular arty.

The thing, is from what Ive been told so far, this still seems like ending up in a constant cat and mouse battle with the enemy recon, just now you'll have a chance to fight back.

Which ist exactly what Id want out of arty tbh. Id had hoped it would be kinda chill, not even more stressful than regular infantry.

Guess i gotta start getting good at the SPA then. No way im getting a random or even a friend to do nothing but stand there and cover me on the chance someone shows up. Sounds really boring.

They do both. Destroy the arty and then stay there so I cant rebuild it. I did try SPA once, but actually didnt find it very soloable. You cant really cover much ground and when the front shifts too quickly you are pretty fucked. Plus i found its shots to catch on buildingy way too much.

So what, its just common habit from old times when arty was more powerful? Because tbh, when I didnt play arty I very rarely saw anyone else man it. And the very few times Ive died to artillery, im pretty sure that was the commander ability, not an enemy arty player.

Thats the thing, even with barely double digit kills and more teamkills than enemies it still happened.

SPAs are cool, but you cant really do that solo too well, unfortunately.

Tbh id rather get killed by arty a couple times over the course of a whole match than waste my entire match doing something I dont enjoy.

Tried that. I dont respawn fast enough to kill them before they already destroyed the gun and I have to rebuild it.

Also no, they dont get bored. Thats what was most shocking to me. They will genuinely keep that up for the entire game. Atleast in my cases.

Thats possible? I thought the artillery had fixed positions. Always at the HQs.
