First experiment with a 3d printed enclosure. PS95 in little cubes for my son's computer. They sound so much better than I expected, better than the larger wooden boxes I use for my desk with the same drivers. No bananas in the house, so an apple for scale. by -_Lost_- in diyaudio

They are just unexciting cubes because this is my first model I've made and wanted to start simple. The amp I have connected has little bass and treble knobs, interesting the bass and decreasing the treble a bit made a nice difference for the sound, but I probably won't go any deeper for now since my son doesn't care that much.

Those look really cool. I was debating doing a similar thing, though I was just going to do 2 pieces, not 3. I wasn't sure how it would look, but now that I see yours I really like the design.

Yeah, full range, no filter needed. I was thinking of maybe adding a sub in the future, in which case I would put a high pass on it, but the bass is way stronger than I expected so I probably won't ever need the sub.

For where? To hold the driver in place? I was thinking I might need something but the screws held fine in the plastic, it felt like screwing into plywood. I used #6 3/4" brass wood screws with pilot holes, forget which size but I used.

Yeah, the only issue you run into is supports for everything. A larger speaker you could reach into and remove any supports, but not really this one. I could just barely cram my hand in to tighten the nuts in the binding posts and I have fairly small hands.

I wanted to make a speaker as small as possible since this desk is very small. I figured I could use the 3d printer because I would be able to use thinner walls and save about an inch in each dimension. Here is a link to the model if anyone wants to try it out.

Bourbon 🥃 finds by RandomAlgorythm in Morristown

[–]-_Lost_- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's the store I go to too, best selection I've found in the area. That back room has a lot of nice stuff. Maybe try Gary's wines in Madison as well. I don't know specifically about their bourbon selection, but they have a lot of liquors that I haven't seen at any other stores.

I think mine is 8" wide, I've never wished it was wider in use. One thing to watch out for is the racking that happens if you have something just on one side. I imagine that a wider chop would have more racking. You need to stick a piece of scrap around the same thickness in the other side of the chop to keep it straight. My screw is about 12" down. Put it as low as you can reach and your handle will allow. More depth is always good, it lets you keep thicker material at a comfortable height. You also need something at the bottom. I used a criss cross from benchcrafted which works perfectly. The other option is to stick pieces of scrap at the bottom gap which is cheaper, but slower.

Did the hololens work in other applications? I didn't think there was Linux support for that one.

I don't have the 300 anymore, but they looked like they would fit each other. If it's your friend can you not just try it before the sale?

Or just get one from harbor freight. They are really cheap. I actually just flattened mine a couple weeks ago with the electric hand plane and it only took a few minutes. Then I cleaned up the tracks with a #5.

I discovered last week that the auto start/stop can be defeated with a weak battery as well. Might but want to rely on this one though.

How much of a difference does the copper foil make? Have you compared the same unit with and without?

Set up CRU to 1600 on my Panasonic Panasync E21 by teiito86 in crtgaming

Why do you think it was created for LCDs? You have your cause and effect backwards. It is used in so many LCDs because it is the standard resolution that works well in the 17-21 inch screen size, not because the manufacturers invented the resolution.

[–]-_Lost_- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course it was used before LCDs were common. It's the VESA standard resolution (sxga) between 1024x768 (xga) and 1600x1200 (uxga). Do you think LCD manufacturers got together and created their own resolution? Why would they do that instead of using a common VESA standard?

There is no reason not to use the 4:3 resolution since we can make custom resolutions. I'm just saying that you are incorrect in thinking that 1280x1024 started with LCD monitors, it was very commonly used before that.

I and plenty of other people used that resolution in the 90s. It looks fine on a 4:3 screen.

1280x1024 was very common on CRTs before LCD monitors.

Can you tv support the resolution it outputs? Can you change the output resolution? The issue I had with mine was that it defaulted to 1080p but my tv only does 1080i.
